Landry Shamet looking like a Steal

How did Shamet fall so low?

He's a 6'5" combo guard that shot 44.2%, on high volume, from 3. That's better than Redick, Thompson and almost as good as Korver.

He's above average ball handler and passer. He's little on the weak side but he seems to try on defense.
Basically the guy looks like a more well rounded JJ Redick. Which is great value for the 26th pick.

Seriously is there something that I'm missing?

He's smart and a good

He's smart and a good shooter, but physically he's lacking. He might be 6'5 but he's physically weak with a very thin frame. If he had a longer wingspan hed be a little more impressive physically, but he has the wingspan of someone 6'2-6'3. He can't turn the corner without a pick either and even when he does, he will have trouble finishing in the paint because he lacks explosiveness, strength and body control. He MIGHT be a deadeye spot up shooter, but what makes Redick special is that he's also an elite shooter catching on the move too, as is the case with Korver and Klay. Pls don't tell me you're comparing NBA 3pt %s to college %s either. The NBA 3 ball is an entirely different beast. I personally don't see starter upside in Shamet, unless all the 6ers need at the point is a spot up shooter. He's too physically limited and his offensive game lacks dimensions. A smart, game managing knock down spot up shooter is still a valuable role tho, but I wouldn't say he was taken too low. Late first seems just about right.

I think your taking it a bit

I think your taking it a bit far. TC just said he shot a higher percentage, wasnt saying hes gonna average 20 ppg out the gate or anything. The guy makes shots and he's smart I think he will adapt at the NBA and learn how to get his shot off against defences. At the very least having a 3pt specialist on a rookie contract is very valuable.

On one end

This guy states that the nba 3 point line is a different beast but negates to mention that the spacing in the nba for a player who may have struggles to get to the basket may be easier for him

Hes gonna be a good player.

Hes gonna be a good player. Not sure how so many teams passed on him. Thought him and Brunson should have gone mid teens.

His value is heightend thanks

His value is heightend thanks to the structure of the team Philly already had in place where they only need him to do the things he's good at. If he went to a team in the teens that doesn't have as much of an identity and pecking order set in stone, they're drafting more for upside than a guy who has a set role but not as much room for growth like Shamet.

Thanks the input. According

Thanks the input.

According the NBA combine he has a 6'7" wingspan, not amazing but, definitely not bad for a combo guard.

And know I wasn't comparing college percentage to NBA, I was comparing Shamet's college numbers to Redick, Thompson and Krover's college numbers.

He has only played in one preseason game so far.

He looked good, but it's way too early to tell if he is truly a steal.

We'll have to wait and see.

Most late first rounders don't pan out.

Looks like I'm not the only

Looks like I'm not the only Sixers fan that's taken notice of Shamet's play. Both libertyballers and phillyvoice have written about it.

This is why I luv how Phila is constructed for Long Term success

Boston & Toronto this year I feel are the top 2 teams in the East. Both are loaded & deep

But I don't see Kawhi signing lng term & even though I do like Kyrie Irving to stay in Boston Al Horford - a guy who does not get much attention but is the fulcrum who makes that Boston system function & is maybe the Only guy in the NBA capable of guarding Joel Embiid One V One

Embiid will get better & better in the coming years (he's 24) but Al will be 33 during the NBA playoffs & in 2 or 3 years he's going to begin to slow down

Phila's core are 20 -24 (Saric, Simmons, Fultz & Embiid) & they have a really nice Veteran group on their 2nd team Amir Johnson, JJ Reddick, Wilson Chandler - so now Phil ais able to Draft guys for specific need.

I Luv'd the Shamet pick at #26, I Luv'd the Shake Milton pick early in Rnd 2 (Milton is a type of guy specifically to play Boston - a Shooting Guard / Wing Hybrid who at 6'6'' can shoot, dribble drive & defend & I Luv'd Phila getting Zhaire Smith - another 6'5'' muscle bound guard who's an athletic freak & a Defensive talent who I believe Phila can grow into a Valuable Marcus Smart type player to come off the bench & Phila got Miami's 2021 - 1st Rnd pick Unprotected that can be used in a trade for a talented Veteran

Phila & Boston will battle for Years in the East & I favor Boston over the next 2 or most likely 3 years as Hayward & Kyrie are 27 & 29 tthis season but 3 years from now that entire Phila core will be coming of age & even though I Luv Boston's 2 young talents Brown & Tatum it might not be enough

What will be Fascinating is the Sacramento Kings 2019 1st Round pick ---- just about Everyone including Vegas have Sacramento ranked at the Worst NBA team & even though the Lottery Odds are smoothed there will be about a 20% chance the Kings land that 2019 #1 pick --- a Lot of people have forgotten that if that pick goes #1 the Kings hand it over to Philadelphia not Boston!

If that Kings pick lands at #2 or #3 or #4 the Celtics will add a Cameron Reddich or a Nassir Little or a Zion Williamson to their already impressive young Core - But if that Kings pick lands at #1 the 76ers will almost certainly pick RJ Barrett & plug that stud scorer right in. Over the next 8 years Phila & Boston will be competing for the NBA Title & the Eastern Conference every single year - the margin is Razor close & will sway back & forth I am sure so This 2019 Kings pick may be the difference between Winning NBA Titles & just missing NBA Titles for Two Franchises who are NBA Royalty & are both represented by Hard Core Ravenous NBA Fan bases that function a lot more like Armies than fans!

The next Decade the East is going to be On Fire w/ Drama!
