Lance Stephensen is Lenny Cooke
a product of NY basketball
a player with skill but no drive
same cocky attitude
yea he's lenny cooke
now let's see how long it takes before he's playing in europe and then working at a food line in virginia
if he doesn't change he will be another sad story of a player who let the recruiters and boosters get to his head by being a great player instead of a great person
Way to hate on my boy. The thing that seperates them is that Stephanson will get a shot unlike Cooke. There's not doubt in my mind Cooke would be playing in this league today had he been drafted or played a year in college. Dude had one of the best games in high school I've ever seen and was better than lebron in hs at one point.
Lenny's a good player with a lot of upside, but lacks maturity and a jump shot in his game.
man i agree with you i still think he could be playing in the league today,he was better than lebron his junior year, but some think lebron used him as a stepping stone after he embarassed him in that aau game, some say that's where lebron really got noticed.
but he was the 4th ranked player total in 2002, 2nd small forward behind only carmelo and he was 6 spots ahead of brandon roy
but people said he had that i'm better than the world attitude, which hurt him
and they said he was talent and no work ethic
and plus the grades, i think if he would have gotten to play and stayed at one school he would be in the league today
but look at lance all the same problems only difference when he goes to europe he'll have a chance just like you said.
Is this true? It was on Wikipedia?
"As of November 2008, Lenny Cooke works at the Food Lion Distribution Center in Prince George, Va as an order selector."
I remember this guy from Rucker... such a sad story. I wish he had improved his academics and at least tried to go to college.
You do realize lamar odom also had his grades falsified at the same school Cooke did. Where's lamar odom today? Only riding kobe's dick in the NBa Finals.
It just shows you that you need more than talent to make it in this league. He was a world class athlete who got the raw end of a stick. At bear minimum the guy should have been drafted. It's a sad story that aside from summer league tryouts he's never gotten a taste of the NBA.
I have no idea if it's true. I stopped following lenny cooke after my senior year of HS. I wouldn't doubt it though to be honest with you. Dude's gotta eat and feed his family.
Lenny was in the spotlight way before jumpin from high school was cool for everyone. Meanwhile lance has been in the light long enough to kno the downfalls and hes still actin foolish. Plus lenny was alil overrated in high school after he left NY. I mean he was older than everyone in his graduating class and when he moved to jersey played against much weaker comp. I was part of the abcd camp game when him and lebron went at it and to say he was better than lebron is kinda a stretch..lebrons team won, he had better stats and lenny was about 2 years older than him. Dude had potential though but fell into his own hype and just completely didn't care about grades...and he did make it to the nba with seattle but got no burn at all.
Lenny Cooke played in the Philippines as an import for a couple of years. Given the height differential (our centers here are about 6-6 to 6-8), he played against much smaller players, but he held his own against other imports who either had long international careers or were productive NBDL players. I do recall he got injured in his second stint here and am not sure if that was the cause of his premature retirement from basketball. But based on his performance and comparing to the careers of his co-imports here, he should have been able to sustain a long career in international tournaments or the NBDL. Have to admit though I don't know if he played again after that injury here in the Philippines or if he suffered another injury that might have done him in.
his career was pretty much ended after his car accident out in LA. What alot of you don't seem to realize is, theres tons of guys who have talent and dont make it. The nba is about right place right time and not everyones that lucky. my boy keydran averaged alil over 30 a game D1 and still didn't get draft yet anthony johnson is somehow still in the league.
between the two is Lance can't jump straight to the league. With their being a different path he could take if he decides not to go to college being Europe I.E (Brandon Jennings) with his upside and potential he could be in the NBA as a top 10 selection no matter how S@$%^& of a season he has. The only thing that can hold Lance from the league is a jail term. That's the reason he hasnt signed to a school yet. He's due back in court on June 29th
the thing is there isnt no interest from european teams for him ..his family has asked sonny vaccaro a couple times about it and sonny keeps telling him there isnt any interest as far as lenny and lance they do have similar backgrounds though lance cares more about school then lenny and seems to have a better drive and hunger..
lenny didn't have to care about school at first cuz people just passed him so he could play ball. His main issue was his ego..same as lance..same as telfair etc...plus lenny didn't have the europe option cuz it wasn't really heard of out of high school back then...lance has that option now cuz of jennings.I mean at one point i'm with lenny at a cheering competition in emerson NJ, and hes walking around with a big white fur coat and tons of jewlery in like may...just tryin to look flashy. He was treated like a star before he was one, that was his biggest problem. Oddly enough, this was the same summer that him and lebron went at it a abcd
does anyone know where the video is, i can't find it
the one of lebron going against lenny
