Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI was talking basketball with my cousin and his friend, when his friend said “Kobe shuts down Wade, Artest shuts down LeBron, Gasol shuts down Bosh.. 3 rings. Done.”
It was the most absurd argument, so I decided to look back at the 2009-2010 season and see how each player does against their respected match-up.
**All stats from 2009-2010 season
LeBron vs Lakers 2 Games (2-0) Average scoring margin (+9.5)

45% FG
100% 3PT (2-2)
100% FT (6-6)Now let’s take a look at the Lakers that match up vs the Big 3
Artest

84% FTAs you can see.. Bosh has the upper-hand vs Gasol and LeBron has the advantage on Artest. Kobe is still Kobe and Dwyane is still Dwyane. Lakers went (2-4) against the Big 3 separately last season losing by an average margin of 3.3ppg. Now how do you think the Lakers will fare against those 3 stars all together? Now I’m not a Heat fan, I’m a Rockets fan and I live in Southern Cali.. the Lakers are still the best team because the Heat haven’t done anything but dance on stage but you can’t deny the stats and how good the Heat are.

Demarcus OnealParticipantKobe is still Kobe and Wade is still Wade Kobe scores 10 more ppg shoots 13% better from the field and 16% better from three and the Lakers dont care about the regular season.
Bosh gets .5 pts more and 1 rebound more doesnt exactly give him the upper hand and Artest doesnt play for numbers the stats cant show him locking up the other team bestplayer. The Stats can only say so much man also all those stats are inflated since all those players were the star players on their team and got the majority of the touches now that they play together all those stats will go down. But I agree that it is crazy to say that Lakers will easily handle the Heat it will be really tough and I am looking forward to that game

llperezstats only say so much. If you simply take the big 3 from both teams, i give the heat an edge based on how much better lebron is then artest, although i do give both kobe and pau advantages at their spot. But obviously, the teams are not all about indivdual matchups. We will have to wait and see. The biggest advantage the lakers have, as they do with most opponents, is the length down low. The lakers have 3 bigs(pau, bynum and odom) who play very long and can dominate the glass and the paint. Bosh is not the toughest interior player in the leageu, haslem is a little on the short end and after that the heat bigs are severly overmatched.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantThe entire point of this post was to show, Artest doesn’t shut down LeBron, Kobe doesn’t shut down Wade, and Gasol doesn’t shut down Bosh.
Read the introductory paragraph.

NYK2010ParticipantGasol and Artest didn’t shoot well.
The Lakers might have the advantage with the starting 5.
Still the Heat have Mike Miller off the bench a much better scorer than anyone the Lakers have.
The Lakers seem to be lacking some offensive fire power outside of Kobe on the perimeter.0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/15/2010 - 9:21pm #376912

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantLamar Odom is very sporadic with his play. There are times where he can easily score 20points off the bench and times where he struggles to get 5pts.
Whereas Mike Miller can simply spot up and knock down treys and average about 10-12ppg for this team off the bench without struggling at all.
The Heat will win, depending on how effective Mike Miller can be off the bench.

llperezodom is sporadic, but he also brings more offensive tools with his ball handling and ability to hit the offensive glass and finish in the lane. If you were to say miller was a better scorer, i wouldnt argue, but to say he is clearly better is really overstating it. Put odom on the wolves and wizards these last 2 years and he puts up more points then miller.

llperezlast 2 years odom has averaged 10.8 and 11.3 points while miller has averaged 10.9 and 9.9. Miller has also played slighty more minutes both years. Just not sure how he is a "much better" scorer.

llperezagreed on being a much better shooter. ANd that will really come in handy with the big 3 drawing attention. But barnes, blake and odom can do some things on offense, so its not like miamis bench has an overall advantage in my book.

NYK2010ParticipantTrue the Lakers bench is much improved over last year.
I like the Heat’s offense better with the big 3 though.
Artest is no where near the off. player Lebron is and he didn’t slow down Lebron much0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/15/2010 - 10:10pm #376939

Toronto16ParticipantI know I am going to receive a bunch of negatives for this, but are we 100% sure that the NBA finals is going to be Heat-Lakers? What about injuries? What if a mid season trade happens that makes another contender good enough to get to the finals? I’m just saying, it is was too early to be banking on a finals match up, cause whenever we do that 9 times out of 10, that match up doesn’t end up happening.

stanford hoopsthose stats against the lakers are in the regular season. we all know the lakers step up there games in the playoffs. i agree youre friend is off when he says the lakers shut those three down because no one shuts anyone down in the nba. mike miller is a better shooter agreed but not a better scorer. odom has shown what he can do when hes a first or second option. he has proven hes a better scorer. i dont think the heat can beat the lakers mainly because of down low play. bosh is good but isnt a banger. joel anthong big z and haslm isnt gonna cut it against gasol, bynum, odom
im still not convinced the heat makes it too the finals
