Jdean24ParticipantWhich one to the proud franchises well be a true contender first and why?

TRC1991ParticipantPhiladelphia. They started the rebuild process 2 years ago – and the Lakers still think building around Boozer and Kobe is a smart tactic.
Boston’s just beginning the rebuild, they’re 5 years out.

arowsky205ParticipantYou really think the 76ers are further in their rebuild than the Celtics? The Celtics have legit NBA talent already and the most draft picks in the league the next few years.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI’d say the Lakers simply because they’re still such a major free-agent destination and they’ll have tons of money to spend. Plus they’ll probably get top five draft picks the next two drafts.

Magic JordanParticipantThis is a tricky one. I think I have to go to Boston. For one, no rebuild should take 5 years. That’s just what the 76er fans have been sold on. Boston has a stock pile of 1sts coming, on top of some quality players they already have…. they will be able to parlay all of those into a player or two.
Although the 76ers absolutely have better young talent than the Lakers, Lakers will probably turn it around quicker because they will target free agents rather than draft picks. As stupid as that is and as angry as it makes me.
76ers have some decent young talent. I still think if Embiid stays healthy he has the potential to be the best Center in the league, and quite possibly the 2nd best big after AD. Their rebuild on the other hand I am not so confident in. I could legitimately see them drafting in the top 5 3 or 4 more times.

Jdean24ParticipantI personally believe it’s the Lakers. They have this year and next of kobe and I believe because of his contract they won’t contend until at least two years from now. But with a forgotten piece in Randle and a possible top five pick they have a chance too have a few good building blocks. Also as was pointed out before LA is still a very good free agent hot spot. I’m not sure that either Philly or Boston can say that.
Now Philly has some nice pieces but I’m not sure they really all fit together. Now Boston too me is the furthest away from contending. The only reason they might make the playoffs is they are in the east. Same goes for philly I’m talking truly contend not be a eight seed .

MopgrassParticipantBoston has refused to take on salary for next year in any trade. It makes me think the draft picks will be moved for stars. So… Boston.

NCarmean18ParticipantMy pick is the Boston Celtics for a few reasons. One is the abundance of draft picks that they have. I can definitely see them packaging some of these picks to trade for a key player or two. A star, a superstar, whatever the trade market will allow them to receive.
My next idea is that they have unloaded a ton of salary and will be big free agency buyers. After all, with the rich history in Boston, why would potential superstars not want to play there?
I believe that the Celtics will be players before you know it, and they have the assets and cap space to speed up the rebuilding process, which is something that Los Angeles doesn’t quite have quite frankly.
As far as Philadelphia is concerned, they have the young assets and cap space coming up to make a splash, but I am not quite convinced yet that they will be ready to put that into effect directly after this season – something I believe Boston will be ready to do or at least begin to do.

HitsterParticipantThe Lakers could rebuild within an off season if they snare a couple of good FA’s and if Kobe did retire next summer of said "I’ll play on for a lot less money", they could add another top FA easily.
Boston have more proven younger players than Philly although Philly’s younger crop may have more upside.
