Reportedly, the Lakers are out on Aldridge, Deandre wasn’t wooed, and no other big piece is going to be left soon. When they struck out on the big guys last year, they stopped and stuck with what they had. My guess is they do it again this year.

My question is: are they bad enough to keep that top 3 protected pick if they don’t pick up anybody else?

No, It would be surprising if they were able to keep their pick again this year, they would have to get their number pulled again in the draft lottery, that isn’t assured even if you end up with the worst record.

the door isn’t COMPLETELY closed on Aldridge YET. But I, as well as most of the lucid world, am assuming he’s going to San antonio. I have an inkling that Harris is still very much in play for the lakers (or maybe it’s just my wishful thinking). If so, I wouldn’t consider this a bad offseason given the free agent crop next year. The lakers have a definite NEED at SF and an established 22 year old that has shown all star potential already would be a great get. The lakers were inevidably going to have to address sf, I would be very happy if they did so by signing Harris to a lengthy deal and then address the center position at the trade deadline or via free agency 2016. If upshaw keeps his head on straight and continues to develop, there is an outside chance that we already have a serviceable defensive big. But I would definitely not count on it, whatever production LA gets from upshaw should be looked at as bonus points as they gave up/used nothing to get him.

If LA can sign Tobias Harris and bring in Corey brewer, they will definitely be losing their first rounder next year. This season is a catch-22 for the lakers. I wouldn’t mind seeing Harris and any of the following; brewer, kanter(too expensive, even if not, Plc won’t let him go), McGee, Blatche, biyombo, koufos or even Jason smith. Just as long as we get Tobias!!!!

Sixers Fans would Love that the Lakers are just bad enough to give them the pick. Get another lottery pick for Philly if its outside the top 3 so yeahhhh they want you to sign some players. They would have there own and then another lottery pick. Wow! Plus Kobe will win some games for the Lakers. Tanking would be so iffy becuase the whole season would be hard to watch then they might not get the pick. And worse part is they wouldnt know until Lottery night. They need to sign players Stat and just compete. As we have seen players want to go to teams that have several good players to compliment themselves. Then next year if you have a good core you sign some other players.

got lucky moving up int he draft so the summer wasnt a complete loss, but yeah this sucks we struck out again on free agents. I heard they are talking with coery brewer which i think would be an improvement over wes johnson since brewer actually attacks the rim from time to time while wes johnson is alergic to the paint. Also would be on the phone with jordan hill right now and see if he still wants the 9 mill the lakers were going to pay him if they hadnt declined his option. no sense in tanking since there is no gaurantees for a top 3 pick. Best thing to do is make sure randle, russell and clarkson get as much playing time as possible to help there development.

I  like Anthony Brown at the 3 spot so I hope the Lakers are patient and when they can’t get any big names.  Just do some small deal with some smaller names and wait until next season.  They can bring back a lot of players from last season that worked out like J. Hill and that should be enough to win a  decent amount of games.  Who care if Philly gets our first rd pick, they don’t do much with them and at some point they will have to trade Embid or Nerlin Noel.  Lakers can also make trade deal with players on last year of their deal like with Washington for Nene or Lee from GSW.

I wish they would quit playing around and being arrogant and instead make sure they get Koufos.  Trying to secure a top 3 pick next year will be extremely hard, damn near impossible.

Last off season I was of the variety to say that if they strike out on all of the big names, they should just bank the money.  This year I think it is better to spend that money, I would target Tobias and have no problem giving him a max.

I am also on board with them offering Koufos a contract and doing it before someone else snatches him up.  BE PROACTIVE you lazy fuckers.

problem with being proactive towards anyone is that they would no longer be able to offer aldridge the max. Aldridge is holding them up from doing anything.

The Lakers after missing out on everyone (if Aldridge is indeed missed out on) just need to fill their team with young guys that have upside and room to grow with their young core and not go for veterans like last year. I think Randle, Russell, and Clarkson is a good trio of guys to build around. If I am the Lakers I am targeting guys like: Enes Kanter at C and at SF Tobias Harris, KJ McDaniels, Derrick Williams.

If they don’t go out and get Koufas or trade for Hibbert, I think they’ll finish with the worst record next year.

And really, they should be trying to have the worst record. Try to get as much strong young assets as possible to look enticing enough for free agents to come because even though the bad now, they’re still a destination spot since the NBA’s marquee franchise and a glamour market.

I don’t think they’ll get anyone in 2016 Free Agent class too, partially because outside of Durant, there’s no one who’s a game-changer, but in 2017, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook are all free agents. If Durant leaves in 2016, Russell Westbrook then become "gettable." And if the Clippers can’t put more talent around Paul and Griffin, especially with Jordan gone now, I think Paul will leave to the nearest contender and Griffin will subsequently leave because of that and they’ll become available.

The Lakers have more incentive to tank than any other team in History.

They need to finish with the absolute worst record to give themselves a decent chance at a top 3 pick.

Good thing they’ve got the worst coach in the NBA.

Many teams can make a nose, but only a few team can win championship. If you want to build a championship team, or at least a real contending team, you have to be really patient to assemble pierces needed, players or coaching staff.

Lakers have done a good job to gather young talent these years, Black, Randle, Nance, Brown, Russell and Clarkson are all young promising/serviceable players. But it take at least 2-3 more years of develop to be contributing players in a contending team. It means we got 2-3 more years to collect the necessary pieces. That’s the reason why star players don’t want to join us now, not about Kobe nor Scott, and the Mitch is so patient.

Moreover, I really don’t think Scott is a bad coach. Obviously he is not as good as Phil or Popo. But don’t forget he has led a team with Kidd, Martin and Jefferson to 2 consecutive Finals and fight Spurs to game 6.

give the young team some more time and luck

The lakers really need to look themselves in the mirror. From what I’ve read they don’t really have a plan besides come play with Kobe. Kobe is my all time favorite player but his time has come and gone. HE IS NOT THE FUTURE so stop catering to him. They need a real team builder at GM take a wild guess the last Superstar free agent went to L.A it was Shaq in 96′ and that before all this social network shit when you needed to be in a big market. Focus on basketball and not selling being in Los Angeles 20 mil will go a lot further in Dallas than it will in LA anyway. Go after people who want to be a Laker I wouldn’t be begging players to take 20 mil take that 20 mil and get two guys who want to be there.
