    2015

    1. Top FA Target should be Jimmy Butler. There is no other two way player worth throwing significant money at. 2nd Option would be Dremond Green. I don believe he is a max player but if the Lakers can try and get him at 12 mil per it would make sense.
    • Stay away from Rondo this year. He is not a francshie player and not a player that moves the needle. He needs other great players around him to maximize his game.
    •
    • DRAFT: Karl Anthony Towens. I like Emmanual Mudiay here as well. Either player would be be great for the Lakers moving forward. Randel has a limited ceiling but could be great 6th man.

    2016:

    1.  Let Kobe Retire or walk. I am i die hart Kobe fan but he is wasting his last years and costing the lakers a lot of money and  oportunity becuase they cant commit to rebuild.
    • W ay to early to predict draft but should target best shooter available or atletic Defensive minded Center. Devin Booker if he doesnt enter this year or Iavn Rabb
    • Kevin Durant should be a target here. Evethough it would be impossible to pry him away from OKC and or Washington. Its worth giving a shot. Tie up Bradley Beal with qualifying offer in process.
    • Ryan Anderson at no more than 8 Mil Per.

    2017

    • Russel Westbrook.

2015- Resist the urge to trade for Dragic, assuming the Suns had even a slight interest in trading with the Lakers, which actually if you think about it would be a better option than the Rockets.  It would actually be quite sly of the Suns to trade Dragic to the Lakers in hopes of them falling out of the bottom five.

Stay the freaking course, don’t panic and cash in on a top 5 pick and go from there.  This season is a wash, sorry… more like a flush.

I wouldn’t be opposed to them offering Dragic a contract of about 10-12 mil in the off season, but with it being a PG league and an absolute abundance of them, anything more would be bad business.  I like offering Jimmy Butler a max, but let’s be honest the Bulls aren’t letting him go no matter the cost.  He’s a two way All-Star, even the Bulls will pay to keep him I imagine.  Green isn’t a max guy, but that might be what it takes to get him away from GSW.  I feel indifferent about that.  He could very easily regress when he is not playing in the perfect system, and if asked to do too much as a max guy or near max guy would, I think it has potential for disaster.

If you know you will be drafting in the top 5, or not at all as the Lakers do just wait it out.  Okafor, Russell, Mudiay or Towns are the clear top 4 I think.  They have a chance to secure one of them, and they are all a positional need (I personally think Towns will be able to play the 5 without any problem.).

2016 – Kobe retires which equals a boat load of more cap space, and finally perhaps the shadow that he casts over the organization will be gone.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad shadow, but it’s time to move on and with him gone they will finally maybe have a real eye towards improving the team for the future.

I think your idea of offering Beal a max is a smart one especially because it would tie up the Wizards money while trying to offer Durant a contract.  In fact, I think this is a strategy that multiple teams will probably try to take, as over half the teams will have enough cap space that summer.  Luckily for the Lakers if they miss out this summer, which I anticipate, they would have enough money to offer Durant and Beal a max.  Thus really forcing the Wizards hand.  I think Durant is out of OKC.

Lakers pick is only top 3 protected that year so it will almost surely go to the Suns unless they get lucky in the lottery.

Anything after that is too far away and too much could change, that should be the direct immediate plan… however judging by the Lakers recent history and string of bad luck, I imagine it going something like the following.

Suns wisely trade Dragic to the Lakers, who win just enough to finish in with the 5th worst record and get leap frogged by a team finishing better than them pushing them to 6th.  To make it all worse, Dragic signs with the Rockets as a free agent.  TKO.

I agree with the 2015 part of the plan. KAT would be a great fit alongside Randle. Jimmy Butler as a 2-way glue guy for this team looks good for long term plans.

This team doesn’t make the playoffs yet and I think the Lakers owe many picks in the following years, but finding a solid veteran guard shouldn’t be that hard in free agency after Kobe retires. It’s just a start, they’d need a go-to guy. I wouldn’t dare predicting after next offseason.

I was gonna say they should go all in on dragic in free agency, but not if he’s gonna command 80 mil over 4 yrs. That’s superstar money and dragic is not a superstar. I think the better move might be draft Russell or mudiay and then hope they can grab a big like Monroe in free agency. Or draft okafor or towns and then try to add a point guard in free agency who’s a better bargain.

Whatever happens, they are basically playing a waiting game til next summer when Kobe’s contract comes off the books.

I would personally rather have them make a run at Reggie Jackson as opposed to Dragic.  He is younger, will come cheaper and can probably be had for nothing because I don’t imagine the Thunder matching an offer for him.  He will never be the shooter Dragic is but he could grow into an equally efficient player.

Yea. They could get Jackson probably but I honestly don’t really know if he is a starting caliber point guard on a contender anyway. If they draft a big I’d almost rather just see them stick with developing clarkson for the next year at least.

Are you a soccer fan? Considering you must be american I wouldn’t say so,but you’re reasonning lie a soccer fan. The nba is not soccer, you can’t put 90 millions euros on the table for Cristiano Ronaldo and get him. Anthony Davis will be a restricted free agent and sign the max with New Orleans in 2016 period.

If Dragic is likely to move on then the Suns may well consider trading him as they already have Bledsoe and Thomas under long term contracts. But if the Suns are serious in trying to secure the final play off birth out West then surely they want to try and keep Dragic.

The flipside is they could well lose in the first round of the play offs and if they miss out they get a higher draft pick of their own. With the Rockets looking at him it would seem strange to trade to a major conference rival. I’d guess any offer would be built around the pick Rockets get from NOP this summer.

The Lakers are also interested in Dragic apparently and with their pick going to Phoenix this summer if it is outside the top 5, the Phoenix logic could be make the Lakers a bit better to try and get the pick to us. The thing also would be the Suns would want something in return for Dragic and I’d guess it would probably be lifting any protection on the Lakers 2015 first rounder – it basically goes to Phoenix wherever it comes up. With the Lakers in tank mode would they do this to get Dragic I wonder, I kind of doubt it. Dragic is a quality player but he isn’t All Star let alone Franchise level and if the Lakers missed out on Okafor, Mudiay etc and Dragic didn’t resign or live up to expectations that would be a big loss for Lakers to swallow.

The Lakers will owe Phoenix a first rounder whatever happens due to the Steve Nash trade, do Phoenix try to do all they can to get their hands on it this year I wonder. Maybe get Lakers to reduce the protection to top 3 if they trade for Dragic or even Phoenix having right to swap picks if it is in the top 5.

Dragic is 29 this year and it could be his last chance at a big contract, so it looks like someone will have to pay him major money whatever happens.
