Chilbert arenasParticipantSo driving to work this morning I hear 710 ESPN LA radio, home of the Lakers, has advertising in support of the Warriors. Am I the only one who’s up in arms about this??!!?! Yes Mychal Thompson one of their hosts son is Klay, I’ll give you that. But they also bring up that Jerry West and encourage the hate of Dwight. This shortly after the same station openly rooted against the Clippers. Am I just being petty about this ? Note that I’m from Phoenix and am a Suns fan.

i’m jus so offendedParticipantYeah it’s the same as the St. Louis Cardinals fans taking up the Kansas City Royals bandwagon last year. They want to root for a winner and the proximity makes them think it’s ok. I don’t like it either.

Mojo13ParticipantYou must understand a couple things.
Mychal Thompson is a complete homer for his son and the hatred for Dwight is massive. Everyone in LA hates Dwight (rightfully so…he treats the game as a joke) and most of LA would love to see him fail with the Rockets.
I get a little peeved that they don’t fully get behind the Clippers. They are wishy-washy with Clipper support and a few hosts openly admit they have a tough time with the Clippers because of the long, long history of awfulness (on and off the court). I get that – plus it is the home station of the Lakers, so their is some rivally to consider too. On top of that there is an undertone of Texas v. California rivalry. I can see most LA types cheering for much out of Texas unless there was a team in Austin. It has been funny to watch them try to hate the Spurs over the years (especially last year) but to me it mostly came off as envy (they’d call the Spurs boring). On the other hand Houston (Dwight and Sir Flops-a-Lot) are much easier to hate.
The Warriors are an easy team to cheer for…I suspect if it was the Kings or the Trailblazers you’d see some support for them too (not as much because of the Klay Thompson issue).
I don’t like the Laker’s one bit, but I get the angles of 710 and the "fans" they are catering to.

Chilbert arenasParticipantI see your point, but I’ve never heard of this California/Texas rivalry and 710 was oppenly supporting the Spurs when playing the Clippers. Also you’d never see a Dodgers station support the Giants no matter who they were playing. The LA/ Bay Area runs deep.
