Lakers could have an impressive lineup next year although its tough to say whether or not it will translate to wins. I firmly believe Rondo will be in LA next year as will either Towns or Okafor so that leaves you right now with Rondo, Kobe, Randle & Okafor (and i guess Swaggy P if you wanna throw him in there). But theres potential for someone like Kevin Love who loves LA or Aldridge to follow suit. Would be fun to see Rondo, Kobe and Love try to co-exist. Might just be a combination that works. Someone like Okafor would thrive under those conditions with a stretch 4, Kobe mentor (although hasnt always worked) and a pass first PG in Rondo. Could also completely blow up. Do you guys think this is a possibility? Also what potential outcomes are there? Kobe has a huge contract, would Rondo take maybe 10mil as a first year base salary/would he have a choice anywhere else?

I wouldn’t thow *Nick Young* in the starting 5. There not enough shot to go around between KOBE and Nick. If the lakers starting lineup has Okafor and Randle in there athletic bigs like DeAndre and Griffin would have a field day with them. They will need and athletic big to play next to OKAFOR, to cover up his lack of athleticism. They will still need a SF.

Randles will instantly be one of the more athletic PFs in the league.  The notion that the only way good defense is played is with shot blocking is getting old.  A good perimeter defense or defense at the source if you will is just as important.  Is Marc Gasol or Randolph world class athletes?

Not to mention he was asked multiple times about LA and has said he does not want to go there.

Dont really see the lakers going for a big name bigman anymore if they take towns or okafor. I think they are set at the 4 and 5 spot for the future. Then you have a high motor guy like ed davis off the bench as the first big and thats a pretty good rotation of bigs. Also im not sure how much the lakers like rondo. The attitude he displayed in dallas makes me worried about having him there to mentor some of the young guys. hopefully kobe can get him to be a better teammate? Ironic because that isnt kobe’s strongest trait either. but either way the lakers are going to have a very interesting season next year.

Rondo going to Los Angeles seems like it’s just bound to happen. I could see him going to New York too if they throw a lot of money at him but think he’d prefer LA. The Kings are a wildcard team that could be in the mix to get him but think Rondo is seeking a bigger market than Sacramento.

I don’t see why Marc Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge would leave Memphis and Portland, respectively, right in their primes to go to a rebuilding Lakers team. The only team I could see Gasol leaving Memphis for is San Antonio. As for Aldridge, leaving Portland seems to only make sense if he headed to a potential contender such as the Spurs or Mavericks (Aldridge is from Dallas too). As stated previously, Kevin Love has said he’s staying in Cleveland next season. I’ve yet to see any reason to think otherwise at this point. From a long-term perspective and based on their current roster, their draft pick fits better with their current roster than Kevin Love anyway. People talk about the lack of rim protection that Jahlil Okafor offers, but Kevin Love would give them even less. Ideally the Lakers would hope that Karl-Anthony Towns falls to them at #2, but they should be very happy if Jahlil Okafor is the consolation prize.

A more realistic option for the Lakers this offseason would be to go after Tobias Harris and hope the Magic are not willing to match their offer, which is starting to seem more likely by the day. It seems like Orlando is either going to draft a wing (i.e. Justise Winslow, Mario Hezonja) and have Aaron Gordon become their 4 or go with a versatile big (i.e. Kristaps Porzingis, Willie Cauley-Stein) and have Gordon become their 3. This would make Harris all that more expendable on an already very young roster.

Speaking of which, the mainstream media (i.e. Stephen A. Smith) has heavily hinted of a potential powerplay by Towns’ agent (to ensure KAT ends up in LA). Hard to say whether Smith is actually "plugged into the situation", however, or just talking out of his ass. (He’s like the Al Sharpton of sports.)

But if so, a starting five of Towns/Love/Whoever/Kobe/Rondo with Clarkson/Randle/Swaggy off the bench could absolutely win 45 games or so, imo.

I’m a Celtics fan, but this Lakers’ team is set up to be a quick-riser.

    Ideal off-season includes:
    1. Drafting Mudiay or Russell, whoever you think has a higher ceiling. Russell fits the team better now, but Mudiay might be perfect for the brights lights of LA.
    2. Play hardball with Rondo – We know Rondo wants to be in LA, but his personality would not help the development of the Lakers young core (Clarkson, Randle, Russell/Mudiay). I’m ok getting him, but it would be on a 2 year 10 million a year prove-it contract with a player option in the second year. I want to see that Rondo can grow up and help to develop his young teammates. If he doesn’t want to, honestly I’m ok with that.
    3. Offer DeAndre Jordan the max – the rumor is that Jordan wants to go somewhere where he can get the ball in the post more. If I’m LA, I am pitching “Don’t move. Stay in LA. Get 10-15 post touches a game. Become the next great Laker big. Stop playing for the little brother. Play for a real franchise.”

If Rondo is too proud to sign and Jordan wants to go somewhere else, I shrug my shoulders, try to sign secondary free agents on reasonable contracts (Harris, Lopez, Lopez, Biyumbo, Matthews, etc.), and continue the rebuild.

Rondo won’t work well with another ball dominant guard, especially one named Kobe Bryant. Rondo needs to be the main vocal point of an offense to be successful for himself, not the team. It worked in Boston because it was all pick in rolls with KG and had Ray coming off multiple screens for Rondo to get an assist. Pierce benefitted from Rondo because of the ball screens from KG. Rondo isn’t necessarly a pass first point guard, he is more of an assist first point guard.

As a Laker fan, I hope they do NOT pursue Rondo.  Rondo is a ball dominant guard that can’t shoot. How is that going to mesh with Kobe? Not to mention he has not been the same player ever since the ACL injury. Plus bringing him in will just slow the development of Clarkson.  If the Lakers draft a big (which is likely) I would like them to go after Jimmy Butler.  I know getting him away from Chicago is unlikely, but he is the player that would help the Lakers the most.

The Lakers front office would be banking on Kobe and Rondo coexisting harmoniously due to the following factors:

    1) The two sharing that special "championship pedigree."

    2) Being extra-motivated to make it work since they both have "something to prove."

Not saying I entirely agree with this, but that would be the argument, imo.

These threads are fun,but can’t we slow down? Do y’all really think Love,Aldridge,Gasol want to play with the Lakers? I think the Lakers will have to be humble and smart in free agency, and not try to lure the big fish and see all the role players signing elsewhere.
