Russell and Mozgov for Lopez and 27th Pick.

    Think it’s fairly even imo.

For Nets Russell still has potential. Mozgov contract sucks but they are a couple years away from being a competitor anyway. Get something for Lopez in Russell when they would have lost Lopez to FA next summer anyway.

Lakers make room for Ball. Get their offensive C although long term don’t feel he’s enough. Think they could make a play for George now. Give Deng and the 27th and 28th picks to Pacers for George.

The Nets need young talent as they can’t get any high level picks thanks to the atrocious Billy King trade. D’Angelo Russell will have the opportunity to prove himself in Brooklyn as they dont have much at the moment. That being said Brook Lopez was the Nets last asset so hopefully they either love Russell or have a plan to turn him into more young assets.

The Pacers aren’t going to get much value for George. If they want anything of value from anyone they are going to have to take on some crappy contracts. 27th, 28th, and Deng may not be enough but no one is gonna offer much to them.

I think your original thread post would have been upvoted heaps until you mentioned Deng, and George in the same sentence.

I actually agree completely that it’s a good trade for both teams’ respective futures.

Nets get a young player with plenty of potential (D’Angelo) for an older player (Lopez) that wouldn’t have been on the same timeline as their other young players moving forward.

Lakers get rid of huge contracts and a guy in Russell that many consider immature (and Ball effectively replaces), and create a heap of cap room in 2018 to sign a big time free agent.

I’d say both teams got what they wanted.

The primary purpose of this deal was to clear mozgovs contract for LA. I don’t love the fact that it cost them Russell but that was the price for an awful decision last summer.

This to me signifies the Lakers are going all in on acquiring George now and want to clear as much cap space as possible for free agency next summer. Lopez is a good player who may help them win some games next year but he will be a free agent that they can either sign to a cheaper deal or let walk.

Love the move for Brooklyn. For a team so devoid of opportunity to acquire young talent it gives them a legitimate building block for the future. About as good as they could have hoped for.

Yep, I think you’ve summed it up nicely here.

I think people forget that Brook Lopez’ contract is $22 million expiring next year. Getting that ridiculous Mozgov contract off the books and 22mil off the books next year opens up a HEAP of cap space for their big free agent targets in 2018.

Another overlooked positive for the Lakers is they would have had to pay D’Angelo Russell big dollars, whereas Ball (who’s effectively his replacement) will still be on his rookie contract next year when they’re looking to sign those big-time free agents.

There was a time when the Lakers didn’t rebuild,  they reloaded.

With this trade the Lakers have decided to give up on their first rebuild. And restart rebuilding again.

How is this giving up? I don’t like them losing DRuss but they still have Ingram, Randle, Clarkson, Zubac, and Nance Jr. And the only way they make another trade is to get PG

They had to move those big contracts.

This is not about hitting doubles.  This is about going for home runs!

So, top lottery picks and All Stars.
