SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantDoes everyone really think that exum is a lock at number 4 to the magic? I want to see exum in a lakers jersey so bad. The lakers are going to get a player in this draft there’s no doubt but what would pull Orlando away from exum. IMO exum should pull an Eli manning. Yes the magic draft him then send himto LA for their 7th pick who could be Marcus smart. Smart and olidipo would be a potentially good backcourt. You could even argue Marcus smart would of been the second overall pick in last years draft.
all I’m saying is I’m not ready to give up on exum to the lakers. I think Kobe would turn him into a potential superstar and honestly Kobe is a laker for life. I can see him as coach Bryant for the lakers in 5 years.

nick5354ParticipantIf Magic did not have that 12th pick I would have said 100% yes. However, there are still some great prospects who could be stars such as Randle or Vonleh So, they could address their PG problem at 12.
I think they will draft Exum anyway. I would rather have Exum and McDermott/Hood/Saric rather then Randle or Vonleh and Payton.
I feel like you are overvaluing Kobes coaching ability here.

FutureNBAGMParticipantSo what would the Lakers throw in to move up from #7 to #4?
0- Posted on: Mon, 06/16/2014 - 11:43pm #920433
FutureNBAGMParticipantI mean, they basically have no picks OR assets to give up other than Kobe and this pick.

Kinguy11ParticipantDoing what Eli Manning did (refusing to play for the team that drafted him) is one of the most underhand and disgusting things in pro sports. It’s a blatant bending of rules and shows you don’t respect the team or the city that put their respect and trust in you. Dante Exum strikes me as a very amirable guy and not the type of person to use such an underhand method to get on the team he wants.
I don’t think the Lakers will be able to trade up to get Exum either. They have no pieces to that other teams would want in a trade, other than their own draft pick.
While your commitment to trying to find scenairos to get a prospect on your team is admirable it is most likely futile.

RObin PadillaParticipantKobe did not refuse to play for the Hornets. When he was being interviewed by the Hornets he told the organization and said he felt that was not the best place for him. They drafted him anyway and the rest is history… can’t blame him brah all draftees gets asked how they feel about playing for them…

Magic JordanParticipantThere is little to no chance the Magic would swap the 4th pick Exum for the 7th pick. Since the Lakers have no incentive to give them besides maybe a future 1st in 2045. I can only see this happening if the Magic think for sure Smart will be there at 7 and that is their guy. And even then the only reason the Lakers could possibly give them to do it is the Magic would be paying slightly less for someone drafted at the 7th slot than the 4th. Lakers could include the 3 million dollar cash rule which would basically pay for first 2 years of Smarts Salary for the magic. Other than that small tidbit though there is no reason for the magic to do it.
I actually think drafting 7th is a blessing in disguise for the Lakers… I mean what are the odds that the first 6 guys drafted all pan out? Has that ever happened? 1 or 2 will inevitably flake out… Not seeing who is drafted at 7 won’t also but I like the odds of getting a contributor.

BallinmvpParticipantLakers have virtually no chance to get exum, it would take a team in the top 6 passing on him which I doubt.

jtthebrickParticipantAs others have said, Exum will not drop to #7 and there is nothing the Lakers can offer to trade up and get him. This is another example your typical spoiled rotten Laker fan who is used to having everything going his way.
I’m sorry, but just because everything has gone your way for 30 years, does not mean that it will continue.

ColdCutsParticipantI believe Smart will become the better player overall. Exum is an international player and there game very rarely translate well to the NBA. The NBA is a much faster pace game, and we have yet you see this guy play! except for a couple of international highlights, where the talent isn’t nearly as good as the talent he’ll be facing next season. Marcus Smart is the second best prospect to me in this year’s draft, Right behind Parker and right in front of Randle. If the Lakers don’t get one of these 3 they’ll be sorry they pasted on them, if anyone of them is there at 7.

BallinmvpParticipantI know you are entitled to your own opinion but how is smart a better prospect than embiid, Wiggins, Vonleh, exum, or even Gordon. I’m not saying he won’t be good but if we are projecting ahead, I don’t think smart will be as good as those prospects.
