As a Lakers fan that 7 spot kind of hurts with that being said im not big on Marcus Smart who NBA draft net has us perdicted us to pick I was hoping for Exum worst come to worst. Now with that 7 pick if the Lakers are to take a PG i would rather them take a risk on Zach Livine if he is half of what Westbrook is i would be happy. OR if we choose a Big i’d be happy with Gordon at 6’9 we would have to get him in the weight room hopefully his work ethic is as good as they say maybe in 2 or 3 years he can be an allstar

Assuming Wiggins, Parker, Embiid and Exum are all gone, I’d be happy if the Lakers ended up with either Smart or Randle.  If those two are also gone, I’d trade the pick and try to get 2 mid first rounders instead (perhaps the Bulls’ picks).  I’m not a big fan of Vonleh.  I don’t think he’s the type of guy that would satisfy fans right now.  He’d need a lot of time to develop and I think people would grow impatient. Gordon would be an okay pick but I don’t think he alone would have more value than 2 picks in the late teens.  With those 2 mid first round picks, I’d try to pick up Payton (or Ennis if he is available for some reason) and GRIII, two guys with pretty big potential and exciting styles of play that will energize a depressed fanbase.  In my opinion, if they are going to go with Lavine they should try to trade down, as I doubt another team would pick him at 7.  I’d say the best case scenario for the Lakers is if the Celtics or Magic fall in love with Vonleh and the Lakers are able to snag Randle at 7.

I am a big Smart fan, I am also a big Randle fan.  If either of those guys is there at 7 I would be happy with that.  But to be honest they just need someone who can play and can be a starter.  I know 7 is high for Doug McDermott but I am under the belief that he will be a serviceable player in the league for years.  If they are going to trade down I would prefer them swap 7 with say 12 and try to get a protected 1st rounder from the 76ers next year.  The 76ers have so many picks coming up I don’t imagine they want to keep all of them.  Jumping up 5 spots has significant value to them I believe.

I would feel a lot more comfortable with McDermott at 12, or LaVine or Stauskas for that matter too.

I don’t oppose 2 mid first round picks but 16 and 19 aren’t high enough for the 7th pick in my opinion.  More would need to be included.  And if they were, GR3 is not worth a pick that high.  He is a good athlete sure but he showed me next to nothing at Michigan.  Not a fan of Payton either.

I think The local Kid Zach LaVine could be a dark horse. Marcus Smart will be BPA imo but well see what happens and also I still think they would try hard to package the pick for either K Love or move up for Exum but I don’t think either will happen because they don’t have enough chips for either.

The Lakers might be able to move up to 4 with their 7th pick, Kendall Marshall, Robert Sacre, Marshon Brooks, and a future second round pick.

If the Magic aren’t sold on Exum or Smart they could drop to 7 and get Gordon or Vonleh, then get a wing/shooter like McDermott with their other pick.

Nobody is taking that deal. 3 backups and a 2nd rounder…I don’t think so. Especially considering the percieved dropoff after the top 4 picks.

Marshall and Brooks also aren’t under contract so you can’t trade them. Smart will be BPA and most NBA ready of everyone left. Gordon and Lavine are both long term projects and Laker fans lack patience.

Lakers best choice is to convince Exum  to not visit anybody else and blackball everyone to force his way to LA.  He has said in past he would want to play with lakers.  Very unlikely this happens, but possible

I think you’re right on the money with Lavine and Gordon. Those are the exact two I want them to target. I agree with the person that said Lakers fans don’t have the patience. I guess I ‘m the exception.

Lavine and Gordon have more potential to be outstanding than everyone else who’d still be available. I agree that Smart may be the best player available, but I also see him and Kobe butting heads like crazy. Also, Nash could show Lavine the ropes.

I don’t like Smart and Kobe on the same team at all. People here are now talking about Aaron Gordon as a possible option at #7 and I like it. The only issue is that Gordon doesn’t look to be the potential superstar building block that all Laker fans are craving.

I think Gordan does have the star potential people want , if he can develop a reliable shot, he has the athleticism of a Blake Griffin with better handles, better mobility to guard multiple positions, good rebounder, can play 3 or 4, intangibles, some have compared him to Kirlenko or Marion and he is bigger than Marion and more athletic than Kirlenko. The big question is can he develop his shot !!!! Thats a big question , so how he performs in workouts would be big for me to see if he has shown improvement and if it looks like he could develop a good shot.

I don’t think I would.  I think Smart can have as productive a career as MCW but should be a better defender…. But that is not an easy decision to make.  I like to think MCW was so good last year because he played on a garbage team but I dunno.  That’s a good question.

This year and a 2015, 2017 1st if Exum doesn’t fall I think these Embiid rumors are being put out buy his camp because he doesn’t want to go to the top 3 or 4 teams. The Lakers need picks to at least make a trade for a star or be better off in the future .
