I started this year thinking Mikal Bridges and Legrald Vick were close comparisons as players. Bridges was just 2 inches taller. By week 2 of the season I realized I was really wrong. Vick was a good supporting player on this year’s team, but he is not NBA ready. Even so, it is a good move for him to move on.

KU has the Lawson Twins eligible next year which will take a lead role on next year’s team. KU also has Garrett who seems to be Self’s favorite player because of his defense and hustle. KU also has Grimes and possibly Romeo Langford coming in so Vick wouldn’t see minutes at the 2 either. I didn’t see Vick’s role increasing next year, so it is a good move for him to move on.

He hasn’t hired an agent yet, but his mom said Legerald is leaving and that the decision is final and arn’t moms the most trusted source of information.

He’s a G league/two way contract guy at this point, at best. He would do well with another year in college. Maybe he should transfer instead.

In the 50-60 range.  He is a solid (but not great) defender, a respectable 3 point shooter, and a great athlete.

I am strongly considering putting him in front of Hamidou Diallo in my mock draft.

I didn’t think he would even test the waters as they say. Under the assumtion that he was coming back I had Kansas as the title favorite for next season since the Lawson brothers and Charlie Moore will be playing next season and their incoming class is incredible with Grimes, McCormack, Dotson, and De Souza (if he stays, I think he may be draft eligible since he’s 19). Either way KU will be very good, win at least a share of the BIG 12, and make a great run next March/April.

Vick is in a bit of a tough spot, but I think his elite athletic ability and well rounded floor game is enough to intrigue someone.

He’s a jack of all trades, master of none prospect. He shoots 37% from the college line (good not standout) he pulled down 4.8 boards in 33 minutes (good not standout). He was really the 4th option for a Final 4 team (good not standout 12.1 ppg) he can defend, handle the ball, and even create a little bit, but again at a solid level, but nothing that jumps off the page.

He really is an elite level athlete in terms of speed, and leaping ability, so I think that paired with the fact he really isn’t super polished may intrigue someone from a developmental standpoint. He’s probably in the 45-60 range with the possibility of dropping out of the top 60.

Personally I think he’s worth a selection in the late 2nd. I feel the 2 way contract is a great tool in terms of developing domestic talent. A 6’5” guy with his kind of wingspan, speed, and leaping ability doesn’t come along every day. You hope he can get the hang of professional ball early in the year, and then call him up in the spring. Especially if this is a bad team. You may just be able to get a role player in the late 2nd, and if not then it was a pretty low risk gamble.

If you cannot demonstrate elite skills at the college level, and cannot crack the starting lineup then how can you expect to get drafted by an NBA team and have any impact at that level at all?  Lagerald Vick  is not an NBA player at this point. He should stay at Kansas and benefit from excellent coaching and develop his game and maybe next year he will be in a better position to be drafted. At some point though he has to demonstrate elite skills. Either elite shooting, elite defense, elite ballhandling if he wants to make an NBA roster.

Vick was literally 2 different players this season.

    First 13 games: 18/6/4 on 56/49/71

    Last 22 games: 9/4/1 on 43/31/64

Either way, it makes sense for him to return, even though KU should be stacked regardless, with their stud recruiting class and 3 big name transfers (the Lawsons from Memphis and Charlie Moore from Cal).

    U.Azubuike / D.McCormack

    D.Lawson / S.DeSousa

    K.Lawson / M.Garrett

    [L.Vick] / Q.Grimes

    D.Dotson / C.Moore
