Cavaliers420ParticipantAccording to twitter Kyrie Irving Kyrie Irving has a fractured bone in his right hand, will need surgery and miss summer league. Irving is flying back to Cleveland tomorrow, is expected to miss 6 to 8 weeks. Should be healthy for the start of training camp.
Being a cavs fan this is very disappointing as I wanted to see Waiters and Irving play together. Disappointing but atleast nothing major. 🙁

Tight ButtholeParticipantI think this was Kyrie’s only way of getting out of paying Kobe that $50,000 if he lost that 1on1. As long as he is good at the start of training camp, no worries.

mikeyvthedonParticipantWould have been great to see Kyrie play a couple Summer League games. Glad it is nothing too serious, Kyrie was fantastic as a rookie and I genuinely hope that durability becomes a non issue. Kyrie just has a feel for the game that is special, had a rookie year that just makes it seem like great things are in his future.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantdurability will always be a issue with him. When he drives he takes contact below his waist (as opposed to with his shoulders ala Waitors) and he falls ackwardly several times a game. He waits till the last second to release on layups. He also wears knee and elbow pads, which is a good habit but is ussually indicative of potential soreness problems.

buckeyefan17ParticipantWell as they said on NBA TV at least he got injured playing with teammates. Sucks that he’s had 3 injuries in as many years. I hope he can improve upon his great rookie season and have a full healthy season.

Cavaliers420ParticipantDefinitely a rookie type move. But thankfully he will be back for training camp. Dion Waiters will definitely get a chance to show his ability to create for the rest of the team now. Also more pick & rolls for him likely.
- Irving was upset with himself after turning the ball over in practice, smacked his hand into the padding of the wall. But the pad was thin. He kept playing, then had the hand hit again and he took himself out.

TallmanNYCParticipantDo ROYs typically play summer league? Like did Shaq play summer league after his rookie year? I know Irving was working with the USA Select Squad. But I’ve been catching some summer league on TV and I don’t really think it would provide much challenge for Irving. I guess it is still the best game workout he can get, but I wouldn’t do all the games.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantI couldn’t wait to see the 830 summerleague game tomorrow. Even if he’s fine we cant start the season with Donald Sloan as the backup point guard. I thought Augustine could be the shooting version of Sessions. Once he was unrestricted I thought they would consider him.

aamir543ParticipantWord is that he hurt it by slapping the padding on the gym wall.

Feel bad for him, but glad it’s not really too serious, hope he recovers and is 100% by training camp, I guess Dion Waiters will be the main man tommorow, we’ll get to see what he can do.

Cavaliers420ParticipantThis is going to sound crazy but I’m kinda excited to see Waiters play without Irving only for the fact I want to see how explosive Dion is and I want to see him try and create for himself and others. That was the main reason we drafted him, because of his ability to create and explosiveness. No Kyrie is going to give him a ton more looks and a lot more ball time. At the same time it will give him a chance to embrace the leader role and see that he needs to be vocal on the court since the team is so young. Will be an interesting Summer league for the Cavaliers for sure.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantbecause I dont want Waitors to be one of those hired gun mercenary type players like JR Smith. They seem to hold teams hostage, like if Im on then we are cool but if Im mad or disgruntled we will suck. Those guys never seem to like or be liked by the majority of teammates or fans. He needs to be a team guy not a polarizing figure. Much like Westbrook, the media thinks he is polarizing but his coach, GM and teammates love him and his passion.
Maybe this will help him be more vocal and a leader, I mean as far as summer league leadership goes.

NJHooper95ParticipantI dont think this have anything to do with his health, I mean he was the one who punched or slapped the wall. Most injuries are non-avoidable, this was his own doing, he certainly could have avoid this one. People will raise the question of his durability because of one season and duke and 10 games last year, which i think is nothing. He does play in a fashion that will wear his body out early but he is still only 19-20 years olds. I dont think we are dealing with a Greg Oden here. Freak accident, borderline stupid, but I think this kid will come back strong, and make his way into the discussion of top 5 pg in the league this year.

mattmancalcagnoParticipantTough to see a good player like irving get another injury, but he should be able to come back in top form. I really was looking forward to see him play in NC Pro Am was going to go this tuesday to see him.

akhan786ParticipantHow hard do you have to slap a padded wall to break your hand?
Smh I was looking forward to see Kyrie with his new running mates…

TallmanNYCParticipantCoaches in the pros need to institute a "no hitting yourself" policy. You want to be mad and yell after a bad move, fine. But don’t hit anything. And if I was coaching Blake, I’d basically say your show off dunking days are over. You jump to exercise and to practice and in games and that is it. Those knees clearly have an expiration date on them and I’d tell Blake to save them for the games.
Sometimes when you break your shooting hand your shot is never quite the same. Hope that isn’t the case here.

Cavaliers420ParticipantI think he did something similar to what Kevin Garnett does to the padding every game and he just happened to hurt his hand freakishly while doing it, no doubt it is his fault but definitely wasn’t intentional
But its true, first Blake now Kyrie? #1 picks are very fragile.
