Does that mean he won’t be playing for team USA in a few years?

Irving is allowed to play for Team USA, he is not allowed to play for Australia because he played for USA under 18 team.

If he was born in Aussie then wouldn’t that make him eligable for the Boomers? If he was then that would be a great boost for the Boomers to have a potenial star like that on their squad. That is, if USA don’t pick him up first!

PS: I’m not a Australia fan, I’m actually a NZ fan, so it would be bad for my team in that case. I just want to see more talent down-under.

Kyrie was born in Melbourne, Australia but moved back to the USA when he was young, he has dual citezenship.. His dad played there professionally under his friend and teammate Brett Brown who is the current Ausrtalian National Team coach as well as San Antonio Spurs assistant. Kyrie has said he wants to play for his country of birth but he has already played from the US at U18 level. He has to get a clearance from FIBA which would take a while but because he’s dual he can switch but I’d say Team USA heads will get him in early to prevent that happening. I’m an aussie so I’d love for him to add to our squad and in my opinion there are so many awesome US point guards at the moment. Probably the best move to being a player on the big stage would be to play for Australia so he can showcase he’s skills against the best aka Paul, Rose, Williams, Westy etc

Bottom line, the kid can play thats for sure
