Kyle Wiltjer

This kid's came to fame in high school came from the amount of "polish" he's shown.

I just wanted to get some more experienced opinion than my own so..
My question is, with all that polish how much room does that leave for him to get better?

And based on that what does he look like as a pro prospect?

Well you forgot one key

Well you forgot one key aspect, he is polish "CANADIAN". Looking at the fact that all Canadian prospects are drafted about 10 spots ahead of where they should be drafted, and are also very skilled skaters he should be a great player. As long as he packs his kielbasa and dances the polka he should be in great shape as well.

Hes a sharpshooter with great

Hes a sharpshooter with great height for a SF. His athleticism is ok, and may struggle to guard people in the next level. Hes a 3-4 year college player to me, simply because Callapari brings in so many top talents every year that he wont have as much opportunity to showcase his skills had he gone somewhere else. He won't start this year, even though he probably is good enough to start for other schools.

My opinion.........

Very smart and skilled player from what i've seen of him, always plays within himself. Good range out to the three point line and nice set of post moves. At 6'9 he's undersized for a center and terribly unathletic. Sometimes it looks like he's struggling to dunk the ball at 6'9. I think his type of game is best fitted for a euro league, i just can't see him as a legit NBA player. I think he will struggle on defense due to his lack of athleticism in college alot. Offensively he will get alot of open looks at UK due to the wealth of talent Calipari has brought in as well as returning.He will probably improve his shot even more and get more polished in the post, I know it sounds bad saying this but due to a serious lack of athleticism......i think he has pretty much reached his peak. He will raise his skill level most likely in the Kyle Singler mold but i think his lack of athleticism will kill his NBA hopes. Also it will be interesting to see if he sticks around at UK for the long haul. Calipari is always going to recruit the best of the best at each position and in most cases he gets his guy, and alot of top guys wanna play for him. Would Wiltjer stick around if top guy after top guy at his position comes in year after year taking his minutes??? Just a thought.......

Wiltjer is a stretch PF, and

Wiltjer is a stretch PF, and sometimes SF not a C. HE is like a 6'9 Andra Bargnani.

Wiltjer not a 3

I think this guy is a 4/5 in college. I dont think he has the lateral quickness to guard 3's even on the college level. The guy has game but he is a terrible athlete.

I think he'll be productive

I think he'll be productive in college. When I've watched him, he honestly reminds me alot of Luke Babbitt, who's in the NBA with Portland and was an extremely productive player for Nevada-Reno. He shoots well,has a nice post game when he decides to use it, and he's a pretty good passer and rebounder. He's not quite strong yet and he's lacks athleticism, but he should be a good player. I'll have to see how he does against quality opponents and in the conference swing to get a better feel of how he projects to the NBA, but I do think he will be a productive 2 or 3-year player for Kentucky.

@Cjwhitaker1986 I had

@Cjwhitaker1986

I had thought his lack of athleticism might hinder his chances a bit but I think he'll at least get a crack at the league but you're right he'll probably end up in Europe.

In regards to whether or not he would be happy playing behind all of the talent at UK. I know he made his decision long before Terrance Jones decided to return because before that it looked as though he would be logging starter minutes (barring something ridiculous from Vargas). It'll be interesting to see if he does get much better under Calipari this season. However, I do see him logging about 25-30 minutes a night starting next year. There really is no doubt the kid can play. And with Davis and Jones all but gone and Vargas graduating next year there is going to be a gaping hole in the front court. I don't see Calipari being able to grab enough to fill it without Wiltjer so I do believe he'll be at Kentucky for his college career. Only time will tell though.

@ChriJoll

Good point, i only tried 2 make that point because some guys in that situation seem 2 have a sense of self entitlement ala Taylor King. Meaning they feel like they should play X amount of minutes because of what they were ranked coming out of high school or how good they feel they are. Not saying Wiltjer is that guy but some guys in that situation leave because they feel they're not playing the minutes they should be. For example i wouldn' be surprised to see Stacey Poole and/or Jon Hood transefer because of Gilchrist/Lamb/Miller/ taking those minutes at those 2/3 positions. As most of u know Calipari only really plays 7 maybe 8 players.

Agreed completely but

Agreed completely but everything I've read about him does seem to point in the other direction. I get the feeling if he was to far in alignment with the likes of Taylor King the minute all the press started going to the "Three" great recruits that are coming to UK he would be gone in an instant. I agree Calipari only really gets into about 7 or 8 players (I see him dipping into 8 with possibly a ninth however next season) and it would not surprise me in the slightest to see Poole up and leave due. I read an article a while back saying that he expected to be able to step up next year. He should have known however that Calipari would bring back a good recruiting class. As to Hood I would be surprised simply because he hasn't transferred already.

Plus he's Canadian. So he really can't be that egotistical. haha.

lol

He is "Canadian", but he has lived in Oregon his whole life. I am "American", and I lived in Toronto for mine. Well, we both seem to be dual citizens, but Kyle's Canadian-ness seems to be incredibly miniscule. Not that I care as to whether he is on the National Team, I think that is awesome, but I hardly see what it has to do with his abilities as a basketball player. Still, it obviously makes Bonner want to "polish" his hockey stick.

From the lil bit I've seen,

From the lil bit I've seen, he's more of a 3-4 year guy. Game reminds me a lot of Marty Leunen who used to play for Oregon. A big who can really shoot from range. Will likely be "the Guy" for Kentucky as early as his sophomore yr depending on who decides to enter the draft. A good looking prospect, and just cause he has some high level of polish to his game now, he can certainly get stronger, more aggressive and go out there and be a high level player. It doesn't do any good if ur game is "polished" but your game is not at a high level and you cannot be very productive at the collegiate level.

So wait. He will end up in

So wait. He will end up in Europe because he's not a super athlete..lol...i see some of yall still get confused with athletic ability and skill. He's also not terribly nonathletic and those who say that obviously haven't seen him play. He doesn't jump out of the gym but he will dunk on you.
