From what i have seen in this summer league and even in each rookies seasons whether it was in NCAA or overseas, is that to me personally biggest upside is Prozingis. I am sorry if that offends someones opinion but all you need to do is look at his game and God given abilities, let alone talent.

First time i seen him play was for Latvia and it was for U17 Euro Cup or something along those lines, back then he was under the radar and that was when broke out, i mean he was blocking everything and covering forwards, centres or guards. I was floored. Obviously as he matured his game grew and his shot got way better, i dont know where his post game stands as of yet, and how developed his hook shots are. But on the defensive end he will impact the game right away i can promise you that he gets so many deflections and blocks. In my mind he will be a much larger Kirilenko that will play PF-C once he fills in and be very effective.

Dont be biased when u watch him play and his clips, be open minded this kid is though mentally and he loves ball, he is no push over.

No surprise here. The guy who compared Porzingis to Yi Jianlian still doesn’t like him.

Not two words about how good he can be. And right from the start, nitpicking that he takes too many 2 point jumpers, which are going to be his bread and butter for the next 12 years.

He’s 7’2" with a smooth, unblockable jumper that he shoots with confidence. But coach here thinks it would be a better idea for Porzingis to dribble inside and shoot a hook shot or something. So instead of analyzing Porzingis on the merits, and on Porzingis’ strengths, coach here pans him for not playing to coach’s personal tastes.

As if no bigs ever made a living shooting jumpers.

Oh, and getting scored on a couple times is simply unacceptable.

I think the OP delivered an unbiased and fair scouting report. He was on point.

If he had reviewed Myles Turner, and said that Turner took too many jump shots, your reaction would probably be different.

Turner and Porzingis are similar players, and both have sweet jumpers that they should be polishing in summer league, not strength dependent back-downs and post ups that won’t be as effective against NBA strength. Especially Porzingis, who is 10-15 lbs lighter than Turner.

knocking Porzingis for not using power moves is like knocking Shaq for using power post moves, and claiming he SHOULD be shooting jumpers. Only a biased person would say that, and this coach, who I generally like after watching a total of two videos, already showed his bias against Porzingis in his Mudiay video when he called Yi Jian Lian "Kristaps Porzingis".

This Porzingis review is bogus, because is is indeed biased. Porzingis is already a quality 3 point shooter at what, 20-21 years old, at 7 foot freaking 2.

His mid-range jumper is unblockable, and he’s obviously a talented enough shooter that he shouldn’t be knocked for taking them.

The only reason coach here would want to see Porzingis neglect his pretty jump shot and try to back people down with muscle is so coach could call him out for being so weak, and so Yi-like.

First of all thanks and congratulations for sharing this video with us!

Very good to see that knowledged posters from here can create a professional objective and very well visible scouting/conclusion on one of the most interesting prospects and in particular his unigue (cause media/team/expectations) situation!!!

I have a lot of fairh that Porzingis will turn a lot of heads, not only in general but especially in the Apple and will have success there while growing and also delivering. His up to date weaknesses/limitations/tbd potential is pretty obvious and well documented in this clip I think with his main concerns defensively with a bad feeling of how to rotate (cover/switch/iso/double etc.) in a NBA lineup and his bad hands on both sides. He really has trouble catching passes, grabbing rebounds or putting the ball to the floor very often and to me for two reasons: 1) He needs to learn both offensive and defensive lineups/set plays immediatly and 2) When beeing put in a situation where he cuts in the PnR he needs to be more aware of catching the ball with a better use of positioning in the spots where he can operate and more important holding his hands more to the chest while anticipating the pass to go at the basket on rolls or rebounds. I really think people will be surprised about his skillset and especially about areas of his game we didn’t know he had like advanced passing and finishing abilities. He will be a very unique player going forward and I hope his surroundings have enough patience with him since his absolute main priority should be to focus on his consitency. In words this means only taking one or two fewer shots which just aren’t good or forced and to learn the rotations to be in better positions especially rebounding. The fact that he speaks english absolute fluidly while beeing very humble and grounded makes me not only a supporter and fan but also a believer.

I really think we have a Dirk ish caliber talent maybe with less offensive firepower and creation but also with much better defensive tools and also instincts. New York Knicks basketball needs a new hero and maybe this young man not only has the desire which I’m very sure he posseses but also the luck to overcome this learning curve timespan in this crazy megacity..!

Enough with calling this guy nba ready when he played in latvia…european bigs since dirk have a proven track record for being busts and this guy definitely did not impress anyone in the summer league. He looked awkward as hell on offense, got outrebounded by shorter guys, and cant guard anyone. Everyone loves to dream about his potential but you guys need to face facts and realize he will probably bust.

Really good job. You can tell that you put your research in, didn’t rush it, and knew what you were doing. Hopefully one day I can have the following you have! Would love some advice if you’re up for it.
