Seeing him play, the wingspan, the agility and fluidity for such tall player, the touch and technique, the understanding of the game at such young age, the way he play, his humble personality, everybody like to compare him to some euro guy like Dirk or Pau or Bargnani, but to me i never saw a 19yo prospect that resembles Tim Duncan at the same age more than him..,

He never had any ambitions to play on the perimeter. That’s possibly Kristap’s greatest strength, his ability to stretch the defense as a 7ft + player. Kristaps will never be the rebounding presence Duncan was in the post.

The only similarities I see them having is that Porzingis could eventually average 2 blocks per game. Aside from that… the comparisons stop.

I don’t really see the Duncan comparison at all but porzingis might actually be better than Duncan was at 19. Remember Duncan was kind of a late bloomer and didn’t really start to become a dominant player until around his junior year of college.

I’m going to hold off on making comparisons for porzingis until I see how his game develops. Will they work on developing his post moves and attempt to play him as a five or will he be more of a stretch big who does most of his damage from the perimeter? I see elements of Dirk, pao, bargnani in his game but I can’t really project how he will turn out at this point. I think a lot will depend on how he is coached and developed.

Yeah of curse he has a lot of devolepment to do but just the way he moves on the court and his natural feel for the game and understanding of the team game has so much promise and i hope they will try to mold him as inside outside player like Duncan and to shutter 3 point shooting cause that will diminish his game consider his size and talent…

That’s completely untrue. Duncan was 17 when he started playing university basketball. When he was an 18 year old sophomore he started to dominate college ball, putting up 16.8 PPG, 12.5 RPG, 4.2 BPG and a FG% of 59. At that time Jerry West already declared him the possible 1st pick overall in 1995 if he declared early.

Even if you were right by saying that TD didn’t become a dominant player until his junior year he was actually 19 years old for his junior season…so no Porzingis is nowhere near as good as Duncan was at 19.

Well I guess your kind of right and I forgot Duncan was younger than most players when he began college. If you watched him as a college freshman he was still pretty undeveloped offensively and more of just a rebounder and shot blocker. By the time he was 19, he might have been better than porzingis is now, although it’s impossible to really tell due to different eras and levels of competition. I was more making a point about porzingis and how I think it’s too early to really project what type of player he’ll become.

He might just turn out to be the first Porzingis. Many years from now we may be hyping a a7ft tall 3pt shooter as the next Porzingis…

I think his game is significantly unique as to avoid comparison, except for possibly the Dirk with less rebounding. We will just have to wait and see.

Never a Timmy, but if you have an eye for basketball and for talent everyone should be able to see what sets him apart from all the other bigs in this draft. He may become the best defender out of all of them, that depends on his mental make up and whether he decides to dedicate himself to be an offensive threat but more so a defensive stopper.

I know its just summer league but i watched the game against okafor, okafor by far is the most skilled post player in this draft and he is tough. Kristpas gave him major problems including blocking a bunch of his shots and altering them. This could be a game changing type of big man, that steps out, posts up and blocks shots? I hope he lives up to what i see in him

Kristaps game is completely different from Timmy’s, but if you want to compare him to a Hall of Fame-caliber player, you might want to watch the grainy YouTube videos of Arvydas Sabonis, they’re pretty incredible.
