Knicksboy's Plan ( Final NYK plan)

This is probably the 4th plan I made lol. But since we are a step closer to Free Agency- Here is my final Knicks plan.

Step 1- The Max Free Agents

Here's what I would do. I'm signing Rudy Gay and David Lee. Call me crazy? Here's why: Both players Max contracts are lower then the LeBron-Wade-Bosh trio. David Lee is only 27 and has maybe 5-7 good seasons in him and Rudy Gay has maybe another decade of great seasons. I would love to get Joe Johnson and Amare Stoudemire but I rather take the younger players who could play longer.

Step 2- Filling out the Roster

Now, the roster is Douglas, Walker, Rautins, Fields, Chandler, Gallo, Gay, Lee, Jordan and Barron. The Knicks also save money but adding Lee and Gay. We go from only 2 million to about 5-7 million under the cap to spend. Right now, we need another Big man and a point guard. The two players I'm going after would be Jordan Farmar and Amir Johnson. I think you can get Jordan Farmar for 4 years, 18 million and Johnson for 3 years, 10 million.

Step 3- Explore all Trades.

There are alot of players who could look to be dealt. The biggest piece? Gilbert Arenas. I think he's NY last hope. The quiet pieces are Steve Nash and Carmelo Anthony. Could NY get those players? It would be really tough because NY doesn't have the pieces or picks. I think the player NY could land is Adriens Biedrens. He's young, runs the floor well and is a rentless rebounder. He would also allow David Lee to move to the Power Forward spot.

Here is my Final NY roster

PG- Farmar
SG- Gay
SF- Gallinari
PF- Lee
C- Biedrens ( Trade would be- Biedrens for Curry and Chandler)

Bench

Douglas
Walker
Barron
Johnson
Fields

Last statement: This isin't a Finals Team. This could be a playoff team. I think that's the step we need to go on to. Let's make a playoff team than add/subtract pieces down the road. Thoughts?

That lineup is a good team

That lineup is a good team and well within the constructs of what is possible for NY this offseason but a Max contract for either Lee or Gay is absurd. Lee should get no more then 5-6 years at 60-72 mil but preferably 50-55mil on a 5 year. Gay won't happen no matter what. He is restricted. If you offer Gay a max deal you will be drastically overpaying for him and any reasonable contract will be matched by Memphis. Then we have Biedrens who is not worth his contract and is remarkably overrated. His best season is 12pts and 11 rbs with a couple blocks but a crippling FT %. I would rather have a center like Perkins any day of the week over Biedrens... and Perkins is much cheaper. Biedrens makes your team play 4 on 5 on the offensive side of the court.

NY sold their souls via trading away their future picks and young talent. They did all this to get the cap space they currently have to blow the majority of it on Lee, Gay and Biedrens?

The lineup is good but it won't win a championship. Not even close. That lineup wouldn't beat a team like OKC in a playoff series next year.

If NY doesn't get a player like Amare, Lebron, Wade, Dirk, Pierce, Bosh, Boozer etc then I say keep the space and wait untill you can make fiscally prudent signings or acquisitions (via dumps) in the future.

Give it time. It might not happen all at once this offseason.

if that's the team the knicks

if that's the team the knicks end up with, that would be the most epic fail in nba history. they traded their whole team and draft picks and in return, all they get is rudy gay and jordan farmar. david lee is a year younger than stoudamire, so i don't see a huge age discrepency there. jordan farmar is so bad that the lakers would rather re-sign an aging derek fisher to play. rudy gay can score, but he doesn't really do much else well. biedrens is a skinnier, less talented clone of david lee. this team would maybe make the playoffs, but at the 8 spot. and i like how you put landry fields on the bench list. he may not even make the team.

in the mean while, the golden state warriors would be able to sign a quality player with curry's expiring contract and a high draft pick next season to surround their core of young players and houston will have new york's pick next year and jeffries' expiring contract. the rest of the league will continue to get better, leaving the poor knicks to wonder what happened.

Hotsnot, your not paying attention my friend. The Grizzlies are not willing to pay for Gay. They drafted Henry and are not in a financial structure to pay Rudy Gay 80-100 million.

The Knicks could keep Curry's

The Knicks could keep Curry's contract as well, if they do, that opens them up to a high level free agent in 2011.

The Knicks could add a Cheap Center like Jermaine O' Neal for the MLE or even keep Barron and Jordan rotation.

The Knicks also have the 2011 1st round pick.

We have option Juves.

I think Joe Johnson & Amare

I think Joe Johnson & Amare are both realistic options, both played & thrived in D'antoni's system, aswell for trade options I think Chandler & Curry for Tony Parker is not out of the realm of possiblities. So those 3 & Galanari would make the knicks a legit contender without Bron & Bosh

Good post/thread, only thing

Good post/thread, only thing is Walsh has been selling the free agency summer to the fans/owners/etc. for how long so if he only gets Gay and Farmar that wouldn't cut it. Walsh also said he won't leave cap space go unused they will be spending. Rudy Gay, JJ, Amare, Boozer and other are all real possibilities esp. if they miss out on Lebron and Bosh. I like Farmar but not sure he's worth a 4 year gamble, much rather spend on Raymond Felton. As for Biedrins I'll pass on him and that long term contract the Knicks aren't going to be elite this year so why trade expiring contracts away. Also Chandler can be used as trade bait for a better player. Walsh is going all out he's on a wheel chair but still making recruiting trips. He really hurt himself with the 2009 draft and by trading away future picks to get room for 2 max guys. If he comes up with only 1 the trade will be for nothing. Since Wade is not coming to NY, Lebron is even more of a prize and I think at worst NY is 3rd in the race but could still land him. The 3 guys in Miami won't happen unless they all take less which is doubtful. Everyone is high on Chicago but they don't have money for 2 max guys and now Hinrich is gone along with this year's draft pick so they lose some depth. Who knows if Rose & Lebron can work together neither is a great shooter.

It al depends if free agent players take max contracts or multiple guys decide they will take less and play together. I could live with Joe Johnson and resigning Lee if they target a legit PG and/or Center. Walsh needs to sell free agents the idea of the Knicks using Curry's expiring contract next year as well.

Amare, JJ together it didn't work in 2005 with Nash doubtful it works 6 years later.
If you trade Curry and Chandler for Parker your out of cap space next year and will have a late draft pick probably with Houston's as well.
