Just putting this out there now, by mid season, Knicks fans will want Phils head for not taking Smith Jr. Dennis is going to be a front runner for ROY imo, he has all the oppurtunity in the world coming into Dallas, Carisle is a scoring guard whisperer, getting the absolute most out of every guard he’s given. Turned around Chaunceys career, turned Jet into one of the best sixth men of all time, made OJ Mayo look like a stud and got him a contract that looked terrible once he left, got the most anyone ever has out of Monta, turned Yogi and Seth into quality rotation pieces. Not to say I don’t like Frank as a prospect, but I think hes a year or two away from contributing, and I don’t see his fit in the triangle when he can’t shoot.

Passing on Smith will be just another of a long list of dumb moves Phil has made as GM

Who said Frank cant shoot? No doubt Smith will have a better rookie year – Frank is 18 – and maybe even a better few years. But, even the best smallish athletic guards drop off pretty quick towards the back end of their careers (Steve Francis). I think Frank has potetial to be a very good player for a long time. Even if Smith produces more immediately, theres not a lot of difference if both reach their best. New York will suck again and be in the lottery again. Thatll happen two more time, theyll have Frank and KP and two more draft picks and Melo will be gone. Thats the future. I think more of a concern for New York is how Phil has pist off Porzingis.

Frank can shoot the ball. He is a better shooter than Smith. Knicks fans would have loved to get Smith but Frank is not bad. He is 6’5 and said that he might end up 6’7. He plays better defense than Smith. In the triangle he fits better because of his side. When he passes the and cuts he is big enough to finish in the lane. Only time will tell.

But also for Dennis, Dallas is the right choice for him as well. He will have the green light

Whether or not Frank pans out eventually isnt my point exactly, moreso just predicting that this is what Knicksnfmans will be saying midseason if Dennis plays well and Frank struggles like I expect him to early

Maybe Phil wants to give off the image that he is a GM loves to draft international talent. Porzingis then Frank. Phil loved the feeling of proving some ignorant New York fans wrong by drafting Porzingis, and he wants to replicate that same feeling by drafting Ntilkina, since drafting KP is his lone saving grace.

I also feel like Frank is a player whose ego Phil can manage. He said he would love to play at the triangle, which is music to Jackson’s ears. Phil loves those Derek Harper type point guards, guys who have no problem just spotting up and passing it at the high post.

Smith will for sure eventually clash with Phil because he knows the triangle will severely limit his abilities. This is why I am quite sad for Frank. He has not fully realized his potential yet, and I doubt he will if Phil puts him in a box with his outdated triangle. I just hope Phil will just leave this triangle crap alone and let Hornacek go crazy with Frank and KP.

In many drafts there is those players that everyone loves and won’t accept any criticism to them.
I remember when D’Angelo Russell hype was at its peak couple of years ago,or when no one would accept hearing that he isn’t that good, or Kanter isn’t the next great thing in 2011 etc. Many of those didn’t live to that hype
Denis Smith is kind of this guy in this year draft. I am a Mavs fan and I hope that everyone is right and I am wrong. But Denis has a lot of problem.
He relies on his athleticism and is inconsistent shooter and even finisher, isn’t the most beloved teammates and has injury history.
With his style of play you would have a heart attack every time he falls to the ground after a fouled when he is trying to dunk.
How many of those guards has lead a team to success? DRose in 2011? Curry and Irving are great shooters who doesn’t rely on athletic abilities and played in loaded teams. I mean even CP3 wasn’t able to get his team into conference finals.
My point is,Knicks has their future franchise player in KP, Frank fits him as he is young player who plays defense, shoot the 3 well, has better understanding to the game than Denis and much bigger. For the Mavs what they have is a good starting SF and potentially a good starting C in an era where teams has little use for them anymore and Denis had much more talent than anyone else available not named Monk whom they didn’t like.

I think the Knicks got their guy and could very well prove to be the right call on the long run

I thought Malik Monk was perfect for them. He loves the bright lights and would light MSG up at least once a game

It’s ironic.  Malik Monk is the TYPE of 2 guard who Phil has won titles with: Jordan and Kobe.

Doesn’t have the elite 2 guard size of those guys, probably not as tough, probably doesn’t have the defensive potential but you can see some similarities.

You also would think that Monk can give you enough point-guard-in-a-triangle skills to run some 1 at times.

Phil won 11 rings with Paxon, BJ Armstrong, Ron Harper, Steve Kerr, Derek Fisher, and Brian Shaw as their main ball handling point guards.  Malik Monk could match most of those guys…

He basically took a slow, unathletic shooting guard (including the aging Ron Harper) and converted them to point guard…

Makes NO sense passing on Malik Monk.  They could go with Monk and Ron Howard, I mean, Baker in the backcourt and give you enough playmaking, passing, and ball handling skills.

Not saying that Frenchie Frank is a bad guy, or even a bad prospect, but maybe he is just a "rotation guard"…

You can get that in most drafts — next year’s draft looks really, really good for rotation guards if your team doesn’t get a top 3-5 pick.

    Another MEH pick.

The Knicks, Celtics, and I think even the Sixers had MEH DRAFTS.

The Sacto 10th pick was MEH, too.  Probably shoulda gone with Zach Collins and hope that Skal can play some 3.  At 20, maybe they should have gotten a player with "real upside" instead of Giles who blew out his potential in high school.

Back to the Knicks: If Phil Jackson follows the Triangle Offense/NBA Title blue print, he gets Monk as his two guard, or at least the best 6th man in the NBA, teams up with Porzingas for half of a really good Big Four, and then looks to get his Scottie Pippen either in free agency or in the next couple of drafts… buy a 2nd rounder to get a high motor defender/rebounder like Dennis Rodman or Horace Grant (Jordan Bell would have been a good player to play with KP in certain rotations).

Diallo is the best 2 guard prospect next year?  Monk is better.  And Monk is NOW.

You got a super young kid with great tools. His height, wingspan and defense are already enough to covet him, add in the fact that he’s been playing with older more experienced players, he wants to play the triangle and that hes a pretty good shooter it becomes a no brainer. This kid can develop into something special if the dysfunction in NY doesn’t claim him.

As an undercover Knick fan I would be happy with the following:

    – Dolan sells the Knicks (not happening)

    – Fire Phil (50/50 he walks)

    – Hire Sam Hinkie

    – Trade Melo for picks and expiring deals

    – Frank is given the reins and averages 10ppg 6ast 3reb 1stl his rookie year

I know Monk & Smith Jr are the sexier picks b/c of their athleticism & I like Both players a Lot

But we’re punishing French Frank b/c he did not play american college ball & we did not see him at all

Ntilikina is a Very good prospect – I Luv his length, I luv his composure & maturity – he will be a Gr8 fit in the locker room & the kid can Really play Defense & he is a ver stable floor general & leader

Monk & Dennis Smith Jr have Big advantage over Frank at the Offensive end in terms of ability to score

but as Both Monk & DSJ – for all their athletic ability & vertical leaping Very rarely dominated the opposing defender w/ penetration off the dribble….. DSJ is very underrated running the pick & roll (he just had no talent around him but he showed excellent patience)…… but as far as penetration off the dribble which is the skill we Want to see All the Top guards be able to do neither DSJ or Monk really did much

So I believe French Frank is MUCH closer on Offense to Monk & DSJ than people realize & on Defense, Frank is Miles ahead of Both DSJ & Monk – this was the Major fear teams had of Monk & DSJ b/c neither guy defends Anyone. French Frank, on the other hand, has Crazy length & he is a committed defender…..

So I DO like All 3 guys & I think the Knicks got themselves a Really good player in Frank Ntilikina

This pick is probably part of some "process" known only to the Zen Master.

If they have their own pick next year, and they literally win the lottery then I will take Mr. Superstar ’18 to go with Porzingas, and the Triangle kids in the backcourt (Frank the French Tank and Ron Baker).

I think he is playing the wait and see game… wait ’til next year?

If they get that Bomba guy or Ayton in the lottery then it looks like they have an open spot at small forward (I am assuming Carmelo vaporizes or something).  Hello Paul George? Hello LeBron?

Or, Gordon Hayward in a week?

Great player.  Could be an IDEAL triangle guy…

You guys talkin’ about The French Freak? He will shut down many a top scorer in this league.

Frankie Nicotine AKA Frankie Smokes will cover you like cancer.

be interesting to see if Ntilkina is legit in the triangle, provided they keep Porzingas.

They apparently think he is a better fit there than Smith would have been despite Smiths more "known" skillset being highly desirable for an nba pg.

Ntilkina is very athletic and long, not sure he is half the shooter Smith is, but, that won’t be his job in NY.

I don’t like them sticking with the triangle and I think it will spell the end of it if Porzingas is gone even if Ntilkina is a good fit in it.

time will tell, but I don’t think there is anyone besides Phil that gives it better odds of making them relevant than ditching it.
