Malik-UniversalParticipantI think they have a great chance to make the playoffs, i really do! im not a knicks fan or anythin.
amare is an upgrade over lee
felton is an upgrade over duhon
their bench i think has gotten better too
i think they have a 50% chance of takin the 7 or 8 seed
but i think this team runs on the trio of amare, gallo, and chandler… how much they produce, determines how far they go
thoughts?0 - Posted on: Thu, 08/05/2010 - 4:24pm #369898
BasterdInABasketParticipantNY has a pretty nice trio of Amare-Felton-Galinari that really complement eachother. And if Chandler and Randolph produce this is a playoff team since the bottom of the east is so weak.
Theyll have to beat out Phila, Charlotte, Washington, Cleveland and Detroit for the 7 or 8 seed. Looking at the rosters now I think they are better than all those teams. Dont really know what to expect from CLE but I think theyll be about a 32-38 win team. And I think WAS might have about the same amount of talent as NY but theyre pretty inexperienced and in a tough division. CHA could do similar to last year and I dont think DET and PHI are good enough to be playoff teams yet.
I have them right now as the number 7 seed but theres a lot of competition for those last 2 spots.0 - Posted on: Thu, 08/05/2010 - 4:29pm #369901
MagikKnickParticipantI think we got a better chance than alot of people give us credit for, it’ll all come down to staying healthy. If we arent bothered by the injury-bug too severely throughout the season, then I think were a playoff team. Should finish anywhere between the 7th seed and the 10th…so we’re right on the borderline.

llperezi think there are 6 teams that should make the playoffs fairly easily in the east(mia, orl, bos, chi, atl, mil) that would leave 2 spots. I think the 3 teams leading the way for those 2 spots are Phi, NY and Wsh.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 08/05/2010 - 4:37pm #369905
dwat4444ParticipantThey should hope for an above .500 record and one of the last 2 spots. Like LLperez said, there are 6 locks in the east. After that, charlotte, NY, philly and maybe Washington if Wall can play next to arenas well, should battel for the last 2 spots. i’ve personally got NY and philly making it.

gainsey15ParticipantThey could finish 7th or 8th but it’s going to be hard a few teams have gotten better.

STEVEDOT2Participantthe bucks going to the play offs depends on boguts health…cha lost there starting pg and lost tyson so i have philly going to the playoffs for sure

TRC1991Participantcharlottes going to be on the outside looking in…the knicks are a better team then where they were 1 year ago…
the bobcats didnt get any better
the east broken up:100%IN:

sheltwon3ParticipantMiwaukee has more pieces than Bogut so they should be a lock no matter what. Cleveland will be lucky to get 30 wins.
Bobcats did not get much better but I love the Livingston pick up and maybe he can be the difference but I doubt the make the playoffs. Philly is in disarray but is too talented not to make it but they could screw it up. New York could win half their games just by outscoring people. They actually have the talent to be the Phoenix Suns of the East.
New Jersey, Indiana, Detroit still got growing to do. Detroit would be wise to trade some of their vets and go younger and hope for a youth movement in the following season. NJ should work on developing Williams, and Favors. Indiana should let George and Stephenson get thier minutes which does not do much for this coming season wins but the following season when they have money and some nice young studs along with Granger, they can be scary. Toronto is nice but they seem to not have much chemistry cept for Weems and DeRozan. Last year they did not seem to work well together on a consistent basis and they were pretty talented. Washington has the fire power to do but I am not sold on Flip Saunders and that Arenas thing could get out of hand because even if he plays the two, he is not a good defender.

esperanzafleet69Participantdude… i hate to say this… saying amare is an upgrade over david lee isnt necessarily right.. Lee is a WAY better rebounder, and with the amount of shots the knicks will be taking… they will miss him a lot more than people think… they will be living and dying by the 3… also.. they signed roger mason today…
0 - Posted on: Thu, 08/05/2010 - 7:26pm #369965
bkballerParticipantAmare is a huge upgrade ove lee, unless you only look at stats. The second best rebounder the knicks had all year was al harrington, enough said. lees stats are very inflated because of how awful the knicks were last year. Also lee is probably the worst big man defender in the nba. The bigger amare is at best an average defender, but a huge updrage over lee. He also brings leadership qualities and intangibles which lee lacked and are very important to a teams success.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 08/05/2010 - 7:29pm #369966
bkballerParticipantThey also won’t depend as much on the three as you think, felton, chandler, amare, turiaf, randolph all don’t shoot threes. Gallo, walker, mason, bukie are really their only rotation guys who heavily rely on the three ball and they are all terrific shooters.

stanford hoopsthey have a good chance to make it. dont discount cleveland though because mo and antwan can still get 20 a game and hickson will step up as well as sideshow bob. like others have said before the top 6 spots are locks but the last two spots are up in the air(maybe just one because the bobcats are still pretty good and losing felton isnt that big of a deal)
i dont think its a huge up grade with amare even without looking at stats..amare is a better scorer but lee is a better rebounder. neither are good defenders both hit midrange jumpers. amare not playing with nash will be a factor but not a huge factor because hes still good. thetres no way that hes a huge upgrade
im not sure what leadership qualities you are talking about because thats not something anyone ever talks about when mentioning amare( a leader). i also think people forget that al harrington was a good rebounder and defender as well as putting up 18ppg

llperezamare is an upgrade, but not huge by any means. At best he is no where near "average" defensivley. At best, he only kinda sucks as opposed to really sucks on defense. He is better at running the court, finishcing in traffic and generally attacking the basket. Lee was a better rebounder, passer and in my opinoin a better defender, although thats not saying much since amare is one of the worst defensive bigs in the lague.

Chicago1980ParticipantDamn llperez u just said the same thing that I was about to say about stoudamire and lee. I think they will be fighting hard for one of those last 2 spots which is not exactly good if u consider the kind of money that stoudamire is getting but i guess fighting for the playoffs is better than not having a chance at all. The question is who’s spot are they gonna take I think cleveland they have some decent players but jamison has never been a winner when he is a focal point in the offense he gets his numbers but his teams dont win.

Toronto16ParticipantI hope they make the playoffs. 1. Miami vs. 8. New York first round? The 3 queens in the Garden? RATINGS.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 3:18am #370025
bkballerParticipantI know Amare is a bad defender, no chance hes as bad as lee though. If you watched Knick games you would know Lee doesn’t exist on the defensive end at all, he does the same job a chair would.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 3:20am #370026
BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantYes, because the NBA is going to need the New York market to attract people to watch Heat games.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 4:23am #370041
sheltwon3ParticipantChandler and Felton don’t shoot 3’s huh. Also Amare is a better defender than Lee and can actually defend when he tries something Lee can’t do at all.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 4:40am #370047
McWinningParticipantNo they dont, unless you want Chandler shooting his 26% from behind the arc.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 4:44am #370048
bkballerParticipantChandler really cut down on shooting threes after he realized he can’t really make them. Sure he takes some because he plays the 2 a lot, but I wouldn’t consider him a 3 pt shooter. I am hoping he shoots even less this year, because he is actually a very efficient scorer 20 feet and closer, just the threes holding him down. He took 150 threes last year and shot under 27% and still shot 48% from the floor. Also he had a very rough start to the season coming off injury and the last 40 games of the season he averaged 16.5 ppg on over 50% shooting.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 4:54am #370052
sheltwon3ParticipantFelton shot a decent percent though and also I think Chandler could shoot better 3’s now that they have an improved inside prescence.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 5:00am #370054
McWinningParticipantNow your changing it from he can shot threes to he could shoot threes?
Fact is he couldnt shoot threes last year, and Amare isnt a passer at all hes kindve like Al Harrington, except hes a much better scorer, and i dont see Stoudemire drawing THAT much more attention than Lee.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 5:34am #370063
Jlv2010i think someday the Knicks will make the playoffs but any championship contention is nowhere near sight. Keep trying New York.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 5:47am #370072
ChewyParticipantHe has always been fun to watch. I hope a change in scenery can help him “put it together.” He has the size and athleticism. Not sure about his skills (I don’t see many Warriors games, so I really don’t know).
