Knicks interested in Jimmer

Chad Ford was just on ESPN and he mentioned that the Knicks were interested in trading up for Jimmer.

It sounds like a lot of teams like Jimmer...he could be one of the surprises that really moves up on draft day.

I don't know...it's possible

I don't know...it's possible because the Kings really like him too.

He's become one of the hottest names in this draft. He must have really helped himself in the workouts.

Just don't get it.

I am not saying that Jimmer won't be a decent player in the league but why are teams trying to trade up to get him? He really isn't worthy of a lottery pick and in a normal draft where guys like Perry Jones, Sullinger, Barnes, CJ Leslie, Terrence Jones all declare he definitely would be a late teens early 20's selection, which is fine with me but this drooling over Jimmer is ridiculous.

Bottom line is that Jimmer is not a lottery pick in the NBA. He may be a decent scorer for a team but he will struggle to get buckets against NBA defenders. Mark it down.

Let me just reitterate that he is not a bad player and he will be able to play in the NBA but the lottery status and the teams wanting to trade up to get him, to me, would be a mistake. Especially a team like the Knicks who have enough offense and need to get some rebounding and defensive help.

I'm hesitant to think that a backcourt of Jimmer and Reke would work simply because both players thrive with the ball in their hands and aren't accustomed to playing off of the basketball

I didn't understand this at

I didn't understand this at first, but I got it eventually, here's the thought:

The Knicks don't want to reach for a post guy, so they plan to grab defense and rebounding in free agency and they want scoring in the draft because J.J. Barea taught, you always could use quick, cheap scoring. Also, Jimmer is underrated at playmaking, so if they give up the 17th and Toney Douglas to move up, I think it's a good get.

Also, the Knicks are going to buy a couple second round picks AND they plan to use the NBDL alot, making Allan Houston the GM of the NBDL was a move that shows the Knicks are at least attempting to develop young guys.

The Knicks don't need a post

The Knicks don't need a post guy. They need a post-defender. Biyombo or Vuvecic should be there with the #17. Why wouldn't the Knicks take one of the big guys whent hey have Chauncey and are seemingly front-runners for Paul?

I think this years draft is

I think this years draft is all about teams drafting who they like no matter where the position in the draft...and I think teams are willing to take some gambles on top potential.

Jimmer is a guy that a lot of teams like and if they like him enough they'll take him wherever, expect for Jimmer to be a top 10 pick this year.

The Knicks are right there

The Knicks are right there man. They should have 17 mil opened up next season with Billups/Turiaf open, so the Knicks just need good, cheap players. I like Biyombo, but if he can't score at all? That's a risk. I think the Knicks rather hope a guy like Micheal Dunigan can go undrafted, and they sign him to play in the NBDL.

As for post, they have Jerome Jordan coming over, then the Knicks will be looking to add a couple guys in FA, so we have to wait on that.

Once NY fires D'Antoni, all should be good.

Let's be honest guys, Jimmer

Let's be honest guys, Jimmer would light it up in the Garden. The fans would love him, ticket sales would be through the roof, and bring back tons of excitement to the Garden.

Of all the teams he could go to the Knicks would be the best fit for Jimmers carrer, being in D'Antoni's offense and back his home state of NY, he would do great there.

But the Kicks still need to adress defense and Jimmer won't help you out there, but there are players they can get.

Why the hell would the Knicks

Why the hell would the Knicks need offense from either Biyombo or Jimmer? They're a top 5 offensive team right now! They are likely getting Paul who will make them better! They can easily absord a non-offensive option like Biyombo AND they have D'Antoni to help develop the kid. Win-win.

And ticket sales would be through the roof at the GARDEN? Dude, do you not realize it's NYC. Ticket sales are through the roof.

Dude, 'yes' I realize it's

Dude, 'yes' I realize it's the Garden but do you realize that ticket sales also skyrocketed after the Knicks got Mello...look it up. There was obvously a greater interest in Knicks tickets after they got Mello, and Jimmer will create another added interest....if you don't think Jimmer will increase ticket sales, or ticket demand than you're stupid. Don't underestimate Jimmers likeability, people love this kid.

Sold out is sold out. I'm from NY. There simply aren't empty seats at the Garden nowadays. If they win, it'll stay that way. If they're losing, Jimmer won't matter.

If Jimmer is what I think he is (Mike Bibby), he'd be perfect for the Garden.

the knicks must develop role players.

they wont win a title this year, they will need one more star, the best they can do it`s build for next year, try to further develop landry fields, their draft pick, find some solid role players and they should look for a young big man to develop in the list of undrafted players or buy a late secound round pick they like then try to get paul at free agency next year and you have contender. I like the jimmer pick. defenses wont be able to cheat to double team melo and amare because they guys lime jimmer, billups, fields will knock down open shots. And yes this guy will give a boost in tickets sales, jersey sales and other stuff.

Exactly. I hate to jinx or overrate my team, but the Knicks are right there man. They just need to develop role players, maybe help Landry Fields get there as a starter and a couple more big bodies and the Knicks could be fighting with Chicago and Miami to get to the finals.

knocking down open shots...

knocking down open shots... you mean like douglas, walker and williams? they dont need to use a first rounder on what they already have, but should instead use it on what they do not and cannot otherwise get.

The Knicks are bringing back

The Knicks are bringing back Walker and Williams. They are making the playmaker upgrade from Douglas to Jimmer. Like I said before, the Knicks will bring in some FA bigs and some undrafted bigs to throw in the NBDL and work from there. Remember, they have Jerome Jordan coming over, and they're looking to buy back into round 2.

I like Jimmer but I hope teams realize that shooters usually look great in workouts, so hopefully they are't overvaluing him off of that

Knicks are still a nice way's away from being a contender. They are second round team at best at this point even with a good draft pick

I think the Knicks are basing

I think the Knicks are basing it on Jimmer playing some 3 on 3 scrimages. The Jazz had some of the bigger guards in the draft guard him and Kemba during their workout so they could see how they dealt with it. Both of them were able to do their thing supposedly. I suspect the Knicks did the same thing. Sure there were shoot arounds, but only an idiot would not schedule a workout with some defense when trying to evaluate Jimmer.

Can Jimmer play the 2 in

Can Jimmer play the 2 in crunch time? How atrocious would that be defensively? Toney is a FAR FAR superior defender and can hit open 3s. Landy is a better defender, better rebounder, and can hit open 3s. Jimmer's main strengths are with the ball in his hands. On the Knicks, with Amare and Melo and Chauncey? He won't be able to utilize that. Meanwhile, the Knicks have the worst interior D in the league, plenty of scoring, and prospects are available to help that D. Now, you tell me how Jimmer makes more sense in that context?

Because Jimmer Fredette can be a PG in that system playing with those players. He's never going to be a great defender, but he will continue to get better and he's won't be a liability either. He won't have to play SG in crunch, and he might not even see crunch minutes with Billups at the PG spot in the immediate future. Billups isn't getting any younger, and I certainly think Fredette can be a starting PG for the Knicks in a few years when Billups is over the hill. And I think Fredette can work just fine with Amare and Carmelo. It would be news to me if that didn't work. The Knicks wouldn't have anyone in the draft that will help them with their defensive problems down low, assuming they are staying where they are slated, picking 17 and they probably don't have the trading pieces to acquire one either. If Fredette fell to them at 17, that would be a gift and they should easily take him. He'd be fine in that system.

Jimmer can be a PG with Chauncey on the floor? I don't see it, at all. The ball starts in the hands of Chauncey in crunch time ten times out of ten, and goes to Melo or Amare 8 of those 10 times. Jimmer would just need to catch and shoot. The Knicks currently have no less than 4 guys who can do that.

I assume, then, that you are also giving up on Paul to Knicks?

Who said anything about Fredette being a PG with Billups on the floor? I think Fredette can play with Stoudemire and Anthony though. I don't see how that would be a problem at all. He won't have to dominate the ball in the NBA with any team that selects him, and I don't think he'll have a problem adjusting his game to getting used to that. He might be able to get on the floor in crunch time as a SG when the Knicks have the ball, so that he won't have to be on a SG on the defensive end. There are a such thing as a defensive substitution. The plays are going to be drawn up for Anthony (mostly) and for Stoudemire on the instances where they have little time to get up a shot so they target a guy like him around the, and Billups certainly will be the PG in these situations, but that doesn't mean Fredette can be on the floor as a shooter off the ball as a safety valve.

Jimmer can be a shooter off

Jimmer can be a shooter off the ball as a safety valve... with the 17 pick. But is he better at that, percentage-wise than the other 4 guys the Knicks have for just that role? Nope. So if he isn't going to have the ball in his hands, why do it?

At 17 you can do much worse

At 17 you can do much worse than have a rookie playing in late-game situations, is your PG of the future, and adds offense during the other parts of the game. This is a rookie we're talking about. I personally think Fredette will be more than a late second safety value at the end of games, but if he goes to the Knicks he certainly isn't going to start over Billups as a rookie. There is nothing wrong with that, it's not as if he can't be a starting PG for the Knicks in the future just because he's playing with 2 All-Stars and a veteran PG right now.

They would love if Jimmer or Kemba dropped that low. I doubt that happens though. And they aren't just falling in love with him through workouts, they liked him through the whole College season
