joe2324ParticipantDoes anyone have a stats on how many first round picks the knicks have lost over the years? I can only think of 1 and one more next year. These were huge. 2008, the knicks gave up the #1 overall pick and lost derrick rose. Next year, they will lose their first round pick which with our luck will probably be #1 overall and lose out on Ben Simmons. That would be 2 1 first round picks in 8 years

bloodshyParticipantJazz used the Knicks’ pick in 2010 to draft Hayward. The next pick in that draft was Paul George.

220ParticipantWhen the Bulls took Derrick Rose it was their pick not the Knicks pick. The Knicks picked Danilo Gallinari at 6 that year. The Knicks did end up trading the second pick of the 2006 draft to the Bulls which became LaMarcus Aldridge before he was dealt for Tyrus Thomas. The Bulls had a provision that allowed them to swap picks with the Knicks if the Knicks had a worse record in 2007 which they used to get the 9th pick (Joakim Noah) while the Knicks took their 23 pick (Wilson Chandler).

BiggysmallsParticipantThe Knicks have been a terribly run organization for as long as I can remember (albeit my memory isn’t great). They give away first rounders because they aren’t patient enough to develop a team like everyone else. You’d think at some point they’d learn, but I guess the narrative about being in a big market with impatient fans has gotten the better of the Knickerbockers in recent years.

220ParticipantThe Knicks were well run in the 90s with Pat Riley and Jeff Van Gundy, but when James Dolan took over major control in 2001 the Knicks have gone downhill significantly.

r377ParticipantI thought it was Isiah Thomas who did most of the damage for the Knicks ?

220ParticipantDolan hired Isaiah Thomas. Things went poorly when Dolan gained major control and Thomas led them to the bottom from there.

ExumInfernoParticipantThis might have been mentioned on a Knicks documentary, or a draft lottery documentary. The Knicks traded away a pick that was in the lottery for David Robinson. It wasn’t pick 1, but it ended up being pick 5, and that is where Pippen was drafted. Is that right?
They picked Nene for Denver in the lottery and then traded for McDyess, but he injured his knees once again. There is another one.
The one that was mentioned, sort of Eddy Curry and Wilson Chandler ending up being for Noah and Aldridge, that was a huge miss.
The Marbury trade, with Utah eventually getting the Hayward pick via Phoenix, and next year with the pick to Denver from the Carmelo trade, they have come out on the wrong end of draft pick trades.

joe2324Participantmy fault, yes, that is correct, the knicks did not lose out on Rose. They instead lost on potentially drafting Albridge. This is why the Knicks should not entertain the idea of trading this pick. Take Best player avaiable and that is Mudiay then take him. We’re going to struggle next year and without any draft picks coming in 2016, it will be all for nothing. Only thing to look forward to is 2017 draft.

HitsterParticipantAldridge and Noah would have been a very nice frontcourt which could have served them for years. Throw in a couple of decent FA signings and the Knicks would have been set fair.
James Dolan always paid huge wages just didn’t hire the right guys to run the team. He forced the Melo trade through when Donnie Walsh wanted to hold fire and maybe get Melo as a FA in that summer.

220ParticipantThe Bulls blew at potential Noah and Aldridge combo as well by dealing Aldridge for Tyrus Thomas which seemed dumb in the moment too.

HitsterParticipantKevin Pritchard basically hoodwinked the Bulls by getting Aldridge for Tyrus Thomas and Victor Khryapa.
