After an extended offseason of honing his body, Kevin Love will no longer qualify for the “beefy” category.

Minnesota’s 6-9 power forward will enter training camp on Dec. 9 weighing in at 240 pounds, down about 25 from his playing weight at the end of last season.

“Haven’t been this low since my freshman year in high school,” quips Love, 23, the former Lake Oswego High standout.

How did Love become the NBA’s version of Gisele Bundchen?

“If I give you all the secrets, then …” Love teases during a Thanksgiving weekend visit to the Oswego home of his parents, Stan and Karen.

Love continued his workouts through the offseason with trainer Gunnar Peterson near Kevin’s home in Santa Monica, Calif., but it was more than that.

“It was taking care of my body, eating the right foods, getting sleep and training the right way,” Love says. “More than anything, I paid attention to what I ate.”

A sleeker Love will mean more mobility, and will ease the pressure on his knees as they take a pounding through a shorter, but still lengthy NBA season.

“Kevin looks great,” says Stan, the former player and author of “Love in the NBA.” “I hope he didn’t lose too much, but his legs are strong, and (the leaner body) will help with his longevity.”

Kudos to him (As well as Jonah Hill). I commend anyone who takes the initiative to shed some pounds. Do you guys think the weight loss will make him a better defender?

Damn how tall are those girls he’s standing with? If he’s 6-9, they’ve got to be at least 6-2.

Lol Love looks like a junky in that bottom picture.

Major kudos to him though. I’ve always thought his soggy mid-section made him an injury waiting to happen. He should be able to move a little quicker laterally.

Side note… Those girls in the picture must be tall.

He looks a lot better; maybe now he can pull down even MORE boards! lol his body is not made to be a good defender though. He doesn’t have those Biyombo arms..

Now he needs to slam the weights really hard and heavy..  He needs to get really strong while maintaining his new waistline.  Big, strong shoulders can go a long way when you are fighting for post position.

But I saw footage of him playing beach volleyball. He looked kinda weird with his narrow head. I think he lost too much weight. One of his best assets was his ability to move bodies on the boards.

Kevin Love is strong as a bull, but a lot of his rebounding is based on position and doing his work before the ball even hits the rim. He anticipates where the ball is going to go very well. I think he’ll be fine.

You can actually see his arm muscles now, and his head looks huge. He definitely has a frame built for packing on muscle. Congrats to him for losing weight though.

one thing is clear : he won’t play center to allow williams and beasley to play together on the wings.

He should be better on D and should run with adelman and rubio. I’m beginning to like whate could happen in minny : if they manage to trade beasley to find a starting sg or center and make room for williams to play.

hmmm…am i only who thinks it’s not that good for him..he isn’t athletic quick or freakish long..

so isn’t whose 6’9 240 measurements the same why we are saying TJones or D-Will can’t play pf(and hey they are even around 250)

this is the measuremets which is the only reason why T-Rob isn’t top10..

It’s ridiculous how much people can lose weight with the proper training and eating habits.  I lost 13 in 1 month this summer (though I gained it all back these holidays) and I had a friend that last 70-80 lbs his senior year alone!

With proper training and dieting, it is extremely easy to lose weight, it’s more mental toughness than anything.

Hmmm, I worked out once and lost about 10 pounds and put on good muscle. Then I stopped working out and dieting and gained about 15 back over the course of about a year. I still kind of had the muscle but this was bad weight. The funny thing is that I think the extra weight really helped my post defense. It was bad overall for my game, but it did lower my center of gravity a bit and gave me a little more bulk to push folks around with.

I wonder what Love’s vertical is now? He tested at 35" in the combine, but he was 255. If he is 245 now and has the benefit of several years more working out and developing his body (Love was clearly not fully developed physically when he left college) he could be jumping a few inches better.
