    Report————

The Kings officially bought out Jimmer Fredette’s contract on Thursday, freeing him to sign with another team once he clears waivers.

The Bulls, Cavaliers and Grizzlies all reportedly have interest in Jimmer, who is averaging 0.9 three-pointers this season on stellar 49.3 percent shooting beyond the arc. His defensive weaknesses are glaring but in the right situation he could find a productive niche off a good team’s bench.

I haven’t kept up with Jimmer.  What the Hell happened in Sacramento?  I remember on this site he was considered a comparison for "Mark Price", which I always felt was a GREAT pro comparison from what I saw from him in college.  He is 6’2", is athletic enough to create a little room off the dribble and has great elevation and is just a DEADLY shooter.  I thought he would be a good pick and roll, pick and pop player in the NBA.  Did he lose a step?  Is he just THAT much of a liability on defense in the "Golden Era" of NBA PG’s?  I think that he is an abolutely perfect fit for the Bulls in the Playoffs.  They have a Top 3 post rotation with Noah, Boozer, and Gibson.  With Augustin, Dunleavy, and Jimmer they have guys who can drain open shots.  The problem with the Bulls, and it was terribly evident against the Miami Heat, is that they are VERY reliant on jump shots.  When Augustin can’t buy a bucket, Dunleavy struggles with his shot, etc. they just miss long shots and take away their interior advantage with long rebounds that the superior wings of Miami can get to when they clang off the rim and out of the post area.  Also, when they miss outside jumpers over and over and over the defender who contests the shot runs down court for a fast break and that is what Indiana and Miami will be able to do at will if the Bulls limited shooters have an off night.  They just don’t have guys who create offense by driving to the lane, causing a double team, and allowing someone to be receive an open look on the outside (or in the post).  So, they now bring in a guy who can get hot and score in bunches.  2 guys who are probably Top 10 in 3-point shooting in the NBA in Dunleavy and Fredette (assuming Jimmer is still that guy, I think he is shooting something like 50% from 3 so I think he is).  With Dunleavy at the 3 and Fredette at the 1/2 (at certain points of the game), the Bulls can play their style of "share the ball" offense and have 2 guys who can knock down the shot on the perimeter.  I am pumped, but I am probably getting TOO excited for a guy that was cut.  DJ Augustin was another player the Bulls picked up off the scrap heap though and he is a legitmate NBA rotation player that will help the Bulls give whomever they play in the playoffs a really tough series.  Probably the most dreaded 2nd round matchup in the NBA when you are looking at the underdogs (which against Miami or Indiana, the Bulls will DEFINITELY be the underdogs).

not sure why the Bulls would be interested in him today. Maybe their thinking is get him into the system and have him ready to go for next year when they lose DJ and Kirk. I would be disappointed if their thinking is to have Jimmer as a backup #1 and move Kirk to #2 or have Jimmer as a backup #2. Right now I don’t want Jimmer taking minutes away from Snell. Not that Snell is great but I do see potential there.

I think that the Bulls are trying to give the Bulls a chance in the playoffs and their offense is just inconsistent and dismal.  Especially when you realize they are a 3 or 4 seed.  They have a pretty solid rotation of bigs, with Noah, Boozer, and Taj having almost "set minutes".  Taj subs for Noah, then Noah subs for Boozer, then they start the 3rd with Boozer and Noah, then Taj subs for Noah, then Noah…etc.  But, they can go to a smaller lineup in hopes of having more shooters on the court by having Dunleavy become a stretch 4 and have Snell/Butler play the SF spot.

I personally wished the Bulls would have tanked for a Top 7 pick this year, but that isn’t going to happen.  They are going to try and win a title 100%.  Part of me loves them for it but part of me thinks it is just stupid.  Regardless, barring another major injury the Bulls will most likely end up (inexplicably) as a 3 or 4 seed in the Eastern Conference.  I am just trying to enjoy it and hope that the exposure the Bulls get helps FINALLY end the free agent draught the franchise has had since Jordan left town in 1998.  It really can be a selling point that this team lost it’s best 2 players in Rose/Deng (for the 2nd year) and they are actually getting better.  That shows the coaching is elite, the core of the team (Noah, Taj, Boozer, Hinrich, etc.) play within the system, and the front office understands what the coach needs and understands their roster.  GarPax is trying to give the Bulls some more offensive punch without spending any real money (in NBA terms).  I also know that they have been, according to a couple of recent articles I read, interested in Jimmer since he was drafted.  I have visions of him playing the Ben Gordon role, similar to the Celtics 1st round playoff series that had all those overtimes.

First line should have been, "I think that the Bulls front office are trying to give the Bulls…".  Sorry, when I hit the edit button I get an error message saying I don’t have permission or something.
