Kobe Bryant Contemplates Future on Facebook Following Injury

All, Kobe, NBA Mike Cardillo April 13th. 2013, 10:00am

Kobe Bryant took to Facebook in the wee hours Saturday morning in the wake of his season-ending Achilles injury to, well, vent.

The Lakers star tapped away on his phone wondering openly if the injury would mean the end to his Hall of Fame career. Through his soul-searching post you have to give Bryant credit for keeping some level of perspective. In the same paragraph he goes from saying, “To feel as if THIS is the WORST thing EVER!,” to writing he must maintain perspective how there are things worse than an Achilles injury.

His words tap into a raw, visceral emotion you rarely see from athletes — in any form of media.

This is such BS! All the training and sacrifice just flew out the window with one step that I’ve done millions of times! The frustration is unbearable. The anger is rage. Why the hell did this happen ?!? Makes no damn sense. Now I’m supposed to come back from this and be the same player Or better at 35?!? How in the world am I supposed to do that??
I have NO CLUE. Do I have the consistent will to overcome this thing? Maybe I should break out the rocking chair and reminisce on the career that
was. Maybe this is how my book
ends. Maybe Father Time has defeated me…Then again maybe not! It’s 3:30am, my foot feels like dead weight, my head is spinning from the pain meds and I’m wide awake. Forgive my Venting but what’s the purpose of social media if I won’t bring it to you Real No Image?? Feels good to vent, let it out. To feel as if THIS is the WORST thing EVER! Because After ALL the venting, a real perspective sets in. There are far greater issues/challenges in the world then a torn achilles. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, find the silver lining and get to work with the same belief, same drive and same conviction as ever.
One day, the beginning of a new career journey will commence. Today is NOT that day.
“If you see me in a fight with a bear, prey for the bear”. Ive always loved that quote. Thats “mamba mentality” we don’t quit, we don’t cower, we don’t run. We endure and conquer.
I know it’s a long post but I’m Facebook Venting LOL. Maybe now I can actually get some sleep and be excited for surgery tomorrow. First step of a new challenge.
Guess I will be Coach Vino the rest of this season. I have faith in my teammates. They will come thru.
Thank you for all your prayers and support. Much Love Always.
    Mamba Out

Bryant’s injury is the latest punch to the gut in a season most, if not all, Lakers fans would just as soon forget.

Los Angeles remains a game up on Utah for the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference with two games left to play.

Someone should tell Bryant he isn’t the most miserable person on earth. Some people have cancer, some are starving, some don’t have a roof to sleep under. Whiner.

      Bryant realizes this:

“Feels good to vent, let it out. To feel as if THIS is the WORST thing EVER! Because After ALL the venting, a real perspective sets in. There are far greater issues/challenges in the world then a torn achilles. Stop feeling sorry for yourself”

Don’t pretend like there hasn’t been a time in your life when you were at your lowest and you felt like you were the most miserable person on earth, until you have time to reflect and prespective sets in.

I don’t care much what the 14 yr olds around heres oppinions are on this site… I think it’s a great perspective and indepth look from Kobe at what/how a great athlete is feeling at a most important time in his life.

It’s rare that a person/player with Kobe’s credentials shows the rest of us that they are human like the rest of and shares their true thoughts and feelings .

Bryant has a right to feel miserable. It’s hard to suffer this kind of injury at his age. However, he should also realize that he’s a privileged person anyway. Whining publicly as he did is pathetic to me. In a similar situation, I would be terribly disappointed and depressed, but I would NEVER forget that countless people in the world have “real” problems.

So yes, I think Kobe is a whiner.
