So, barring a complete change of heart- which I haven’t heard anything of from his camp so far- Love’s had one foot out of the door since Kahn took over. Even thought Kahn’s out, I still have a gut feeling that Minny will explore trading Love if he gives a strong indication that he’s going to opt out from his early and test the market. I heard an interesting idea for a deal from a friend:

Love to the Bulls for Luol Deng, Jimmy Butler, Charlotte’s future unprotected pick. More filler pieces could be included, to make salaries and positional deficits match.

This would be a win for both teams, because Love gives the Bulls a fearsome trio of Love, Noah, and Rose that would rival Miami’s big 3. For the Wolves, it fills both weak spots in the wings for the Wolves for the future, would turn the Wolves into one of the best perimeter defensive teams in the NBA, and allows Derrick Williams to develop further. Furthermore, Charlotte’s unprotected pick could lead to a future player for the Wolves.

    Any thoughts?

as a Bulls fan OK. Just want to ask peoples opinion. Is Love a great NBA player or is he the best player on a bad team? Even bad NBA teams score 90-100 points so someone needs to score those points. Even good NBA teams miss shots against bad NBA teams so someone on that bad NBA team is going to get those rebounds. I have been hearing Love to the Bulls because Rose and Love have some sort of working relationship. Are Love’s stats padded just because he is the best player on a bad team? I’m not saying Love isn’t a very good player but is he really great?

When he’s healthy, he’s the best pure PF in the NBA right now. He’s got a complete offensive game that gives his opponents nightmares- he can post up at an elite level and score inside, and then he can step out and hit the three ball when that’s not working. Plus, he’s a much better passer than people give him credit for. Also, you know you’re gonna get a beast on the offensive and defensive boards.

What he lacks is a great defensive game. He’s better than Boozer (who looks completely disinterested in defense, haha) on D, but he just doesn’t have the length/athleticism/quickness to be an intimidating shot blocker and one-on-one pest for PF’s/C’s. He at least tries to play defense though, which is more than Booz can ever say, haha.

Noah would cover virtually all his shortcomings, they would be basically the perfect PF/C complementary pair.

Great player. Assuming if by great you don’t mean something crazy high like top five guy in the league. He isn’t that. But he is certainly top 20 and he is probably top 10.
Offensive rebounding stats can’t be “padded”. You take those boards from the other team. 25 points a game is crazy high. Also those points aren’t just scored on huge numbers attempts. He takes a bunch of attempts, but less than low efficiency scorers like Melo and Kobe (I’m comparing the 2012 numbers, not 2013; Love was “off” this season and Kobe strangely had a career year from an efficiency standpoint).

the bulls won’t let deng AND butler go in the same trade without getting a starting caliber sf back.

moreover you don’t think about the luxury tax…. which would be hard to avoid for the bulls with big contracts of love rose gibson and noah … and boozer if you decide not to amnesty him.

the bulls won’t be balanced anymore and will have a logjam at four with love boozer and gibson whereas they won’t have any decent sf, sg or backup center. Is love a thib’ defensive kind of player ?… I highly doubt of that… but who knows even boozer manages to defend a little bit behind Noah.

The bulls have to search for a sg and a backup center first… pf is not something they have to trade for.

The T Wolves would win that trade.

Rubio at guard with Deng and Butler on the wing. Derrick Williams at 4. Dante Cunningham and AK-47 as glue guys off the bench. Plus they can bring back Pekovic. Budinger gives them another shooter and solid athlete at the wing. They would still have their lotto pick to get another solid player. That looks like a really good run and gun team that can play some half court basketball when the game starts to get tight.

The Bulls “on paper” have some really good guys with Rose, Love, and Noah, but they would have nothing on the wing and too much stat stuffers at power forward (Love and Boozer). Taj Gibson is one of their best intangible guys but he would be buried on the bench.

The Bulls would have a good Big Three but they would still need to move Boozer and then pick up some good role players on the wing. I don’t think they can afford to lose Jimmy Butler though.

I guess this move would guarantee Boozer being amnestied. They would have the cap room to sign a wing like Iggy and retain Belinelli. Plus they would have their draft pick.

I forgot to add that Boozer will be amnestied in this scenario. Also, the Wolves could throw in Alexey Shved or S&T Chase Budinger to help the Bulls recoup some wing players.

Does your friend happen to be Bill Simmons of ESPN and Grantland? This exact trade scenario was in the second part of Simmons’ annual ranking of the NBA’s top 50 players.

Here it is if anyone is interested. It’s a good and fun read.

    ^^^^

Amnestying Boozer would be the best thing they can do. Now IF they can get Love without also giving up Jimmy Butler then that would be a win. I would try to trade Deng, Marquis Teague, the 20th pick, a future first rounder, and maybe even through in Taj Gibson (he is a very good intangibles guy but he will want to get paid soon).

Then they can roll with Rose at point, Jimmy Butler on the wing, and Love and Noah inside. They would obviously still need some role players to fill out the roster, but this is a very good Big Four. They should try to keep Nate Robinson as a super sub, then Captain Kirk as (untradeable) guard depth and Nazr Mohammed as the enforcer. That’s a legit core that can contend for a title with some depth off the bench.

Bulls would be retarded to do that trade. I’d much rather have Deng/Butler then Love. Both guys play defense and neither of them b!tch about not getting calls half the game.
