sammybuckeye13ParticipantThe other day my dad pointed out how infrequently Garnett gets to the free throw line, because he never really cared to refine his post game and now essentially just settles for jumpers, save for the occasional dunk or layup off a great feed. Check out his numbers compared to othe elite big men who played at least in the first two rounds of this year’s playoffs:
Tim Duncan
FG attempts: 150
FT attempts: 69Pau Gasol
FG attempts: 146
FT attempts: 66Dwight Howard
FG attempts: 82
FT attempts: 116Amare Stoudemire
FG attempts: 157
Free throws: 83Kevin Garnett:
FG attempts: 171
FT attempts: 30In the Orlando series, he’s taken 2 free throws (missed both), and I clearly remember that they resulted from a loose ball foul on the defensive end. Looking at his game log and seeing how many shots he took and how many free throws he attempted is just funny. This isn’t a knock on Garnett, the Celts are rolling right now and he’s being much more assertive, I just think it’s interesting.

B-ball fanParticipantHe is having a solid postseason. I don’t think that ratio will change drastically. He spends time on the perimeter, but does not attack the basket off the dribble from the perimeter unless he has a pretty clean lane to do so. Also, in the post he shoots a lot of turn around jumpers. Getting to the FT line isn’t really a big part of his game.

JoeWolf1Interesting stat, a younger Garnett would get to the line primarily of beating a slower power forward off the dribble and get a foul going to the rack, but now that he’s slowed down a bit with age and is more of a post player that would make a lot of sense. He shoots a nice fadeaway down on the block, but not a shot that draws many fouls.

IknoBall12Participantwhen i think about it it has been a while since ive seen garnett dominate in the post as far as hook shots and such. but yea im sure a younger KG would have much better numbers. but KG’s jumper has been looking pretty good in the playoffs so far. especially in that game when he was destroying shaq with stepbacks. that was pretty nice
