Mr.Knick 32ParticipantSigh, I just don’t understand this.
Yes, Durant has amazing skills at 21 but LeBron was the same thing and uh, he’s 25. LeBron is the better defender, slasher, rebounder and passer. Durant is the better shooter and he’s younger by 4 years. I understand that Durant has had a great 20 months but let’s not forget: LeBron is a 2 time MVP and he’s won 61 and 66 games with Mo Williams as his #2 guy.
Durant in a couple years? Maybe but I’m saying James is better today.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantLMAO!! Remember a few years ago what the big Debate was who was the better player Kobe or McGrady?
Durant is very similar to T-Mac offensively..

Michael.S.ParticipantHoward’s a fool. The reason he said this is exactly because he likes Durant more.

Wow how many people read this part?
"Well, that’s a tad bit misleading as Patrick really asked who he’d rather have on his team, but it’s still interesting that an elite NBA player would choose Durant over LeBron."
Durant would be a better fit for Orlando than Lebron. I really don’t know how this many people can argue against that.
The Magic could use an outside scorer that is more consistant and efficient than VC and Rashard and Durant would give them that. He’s a better outside shooter than Lebron and doesn’t clog the lanes or need the ball in his hands all the time. Replacing Lewis with Durant would be ideal. Even moreso than replacing Lewis with LBJ. Durant is a better fit for Orlando’s system and doesn’t have Lebron’s ego. Why wouldn’t Dwight rather have Durant on his team over LBJ?
A starting lineup of Jameer Nelson, Vince Carter, Kevin Durant, Brandon Bass and Dwight, with Chris Duhon, JJ Reddick, Mickael Pietrus, Quentin Richardson, Ryan Anderson and Marcin Gortat coming off the bench would be sick.

mini_marzParticipantthink durant is a great player… but really and truly he is just more likable then bron… but come on people are thinkin like lebron hasn’t done anything in the last few years… durant can score but bron can do everything pretty much at an elite level… bron way more complete player… people just dont like him and love that durant is a quite young superstar

IndianaBasketballParticipantI don’t think LeBron is a better rebounder than Durant, and despite the hype he gets, he’s not THAT much better of a defender. His body/athleticism and ability to create off of the dribble is what separates him from Durant.
LeBron is better now and probably always will be, but I’d take Durant as well. Durant is an amazing scorer, while not having to dominate the ball. He’s a very good rebounder and improving defender. He’s a natural leader as well.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantThat’s fair but I think that’s crazy to say that you would take Durant even though your admitting that LeBron is the better player right now and probably into the future.
I feel alot of people feel that way because Durant is more likeable.
As for the rebounding, I seen LeBron attack the boards. Durant is solid rebounder but he gets them more of length to me. He can tip the ball to himself basically. I disagree however on the body part of the slashing but agree on the athleticism. People don’t understand, Durant is not like fast like a LBJ is. However, I have seen people like Durant (maybe 5-10 more lbs) slash like crazy. Tracy McGrady in Orlando was a amazing slasher and drawer of contact.

SteroidParticipantI think Durant has more potential on defense. His team mates around him swear he is actually 7 feet rather than 6’9"-6’10" which gives him more length to do things on defense, and he is as mobile as a SG also. LeBron might be a better rebounder, but Durant pulls rebounds too, so I don’t see the argument there. LeBron is really not a lock down defender. He is above average, and really, he didn’t pick up his defense until about a couple of seasons ago, and it’s still not at an elite level. Granted, he shut down Paul Pierce in the playoffs, but on the other hand, I’ve seen Carmelo Anthony light him up a lot. His defense comes from his athleticism in off-ball situations which kind of overrates him as a defender. I’m not saying he’s bad, but there really aren’t too many perimeter, elite defenders in the league. It’s hard to be an elite perimeter defender in the NBA. With all that being said, LeBron is still the better player, but Durant has more potential on defense, and Durant is a better scorer than LeBron. LeBron is just a better athlete and playmaker, and that is what seperates LeBron from Durant.

boxn1ParticipantI don’t think you can say lbj is only 25 and think its a upside anymore.cause he is also a soon to be 8yr vet,and has logged a lot of mins these past 3 years, add in national team commitment for 2 straight summers. No matter the player or talent you only have so many jumps in your knees, younger guy all day. Especially when its not a huge talent difference. Same if it was kobe v lebron, the younger guy can do more physically, and will be at his best longer.

Im Your FatherParticipantI’m not buying that Durant has more potential on defense. Lebron is quicker and is much stronger. He is already a good man to man defender. When he is putting forth max effort, no one is going to blow by him, and there is no way that they are going to bull through him. Durant on the other hand is much weaker and not as fast when recovering. It’s also not like Lebron isn’t long either, he has a 7′ wingspan.

JNixonParticipantI don’t buy him having the potential to be better on either. Durant has more length, but he’s not a tough or aggressive defender really, he clearly saves some energy for offense, and he has a rather high center of gravity, which makes denying penetration harder. Whenever I watch Durant’s D, he gives up a good bit of dribble drive penetration, mostly due to his high center of gravity. And that’s something that’s not going to go away with age or experience.
Lebron is a better defender, to me he’s slightly above average on the ball on D and very good off the ball. Durant is mediocre on ball and probably just average off the ball too.

PlatypusParticipantLebron shows his passing skills off because he’s never played with a good point guard like KD has… KD also doesnt have to defend as well because he has Thabo Sefolosha… I just feel KD gets knocked because he doesnt have to do it, while LBJ had to do everything for the Cavs

JNixonParticipant"Lebron shows his passing skills off because he’s never played with a good point guard like KD has"
Poor excuse. You know better than to try and make it like Durant is ANYWHERE near as good a passer as Lebron James. Russell Westbrook or not.
"KD also doesnt have to defend as well because he has Thabo Sefolosha…"
That really doesn’t mean much. They play different positions, and Sefolosha only defended the best players. Lebron only defended the other teams best player if they played SF and the same can usually be said for Durant, unless their was a true star playing SF for the other team. In which case, Sefolosha played him.
"I just feel KD gets knocked because he doesnt have to do it, while LBJ had to do everything for the Cavs"
Doesn’t have to do what? The fact of the matter is Lebron does everything better or at an equal level with Durant except shooting. Lebron did more because he was capable of it. Durant isn’t the passer or defender James is, and he probably wouldn’t even have the scoring title if Lebron didn’t rest for that time at the end of last season if you really want to be honest about everything.

HaleParticipantHow many of these people would have said Durant before the Celtic-Cavs series? Probably 1-2 tops. Stop with the LeBron hate, it’s not even close right now.

joecheck88Participantu r correct, durant would be sooo much better for orlando than lebron would. and durant would be better for howard too. i could see lebrons man sagging off of him to double dwight. i think its even arguable that rashard lewis is a better fit than lebron and lebron is a million times better(but rashard is getting paid more, lmao). durant would be great in orlando no doubt about it. as a matter of fact, he would be a good fit on all teams, and that is why i think there is a lebron and durant argument. lebron doesnt always fit with some teams because his shooting isnt great(as a spot up shooter). durant seems like the ultimate teammate, he scores within the team game. its really a thing of beauty.
in my opinion, the lebron vs durant debate is closer than some people think. i think scoring goes to durant because of efficiency(they score almost the same amount but durant can get his with less shots), rebounding i think is close but durant i think is better with his length, passing its lebron all day but i could see durant getting 4apg at some point in his career closing the gap on that, defense is lebron but not by a wide margin and lebron wasnt a great defender at 21 either. also think lebrons d is overrated because of his chasedowns on espn everynight. all in all there is no doubt in my mind lebron is the better player now but durant is real close and they would be number 1 and 2 in any order if there was a fantasy draft tomorrow.

JoeWolf1I think Lebron is the better player right now, for the record, but for Lebron’s image as a menacing chase down shot blocker, it was actually Kevin Durant who blocked more shots last year.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 09/23/2010 - 8:08am #405370
JNixonParticipantKeep in mind, Lebron didn’t play the last 4 games of the season last year though to rest for the playoffs. And Durant only outblocked him by 7 blocks. I’m not saying the outcome would be different, because I don’t know, but I just felt like throwing that out there.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 09/23/2010 - 8:12am #405373
JoeWolf1Yeah, it’s not a deal breaker, but I think the average person who watches sportscenter would think Lebron is a much superior shot blocker. I think Durant will block more next year too, he uses his length and timing rather than running people down on the break. I love seeing Lebron swat a shot off the backboard, but I think Durant’s more technical approach will allow him to be a more consistant and 1. bpg + player later into his career.

Im Your FatherParticipantDurant isn’t more efficient than Lebron. He shot .476 from the field last year, and Lebron shot .502.

OhCanada-ParticipantNo actaully JammnLemon the reason Howard said this is because Lebron James in his division, he does not want t show any weak signs and Orlando had been doing this all year. If you read the full artice you would know he also said LA is the tam to beat. Exect more of this from Howard, Orlando and the NBA in general throughou te year.
