MachettiParticipantRewind the hands of time back to 2006. Remember when commish David Stern instituted the 1 and done rule? Now let me put a twist to that, lets say that 06 class you know that Oden and Durant class. Well lets just say they had to stay for 4 years collegiately and now it’s time for them to get drafted in 2010. Now hypothetically everybody has given David Stern grief, Brandon Jennings goes over seas fans are annoyed. So Stern elects to change the minimum yrs. of college to 2. Incorporate O.j. Mayo and Derrick Rose’s class also Reke Evans and Brandon Jennings class as well. Sorry Wall and Cousins you guys get 1 more year to get things in Lexington right. Lets draft shall we? mikeyvthedonParticipantWould be shaken up terribly, that is for sure. But, how do the Nets pass on Derrick Rose. This is the same team that was dying for John Wall. So, he definitely goes there, and they still look to trade Devin Harris or do something there. But if you were to do this, you would have to also assume that all of these players have never played in the NBA, and while they have only been around for 3 years, you have a couple huge parts of OKC, Tyreke Evans not being on Sacramento, and all in all some very important pieces off of many teams, replaced by lord knows who. That is why I think all you can do is project where they go as far as projected pick compared to the team that drafts them. Would Blake Griffin had entered the draft after missing all of this year? We know Greg would be forced too, and as crazy as it seems to people now, I still think he would go at least 2-3 (it is a point I have been making for a while to people who have written him off as a bust). It is a semi interesting scenario, and I am being slightly over analytical, but I just think when it comes to age limits the NBA has come to far. If you are going to start hiking up the limit, than you are depriving many teams of the top desirable players in said draft. 2006, the NBA pretty much screwed the top few teams. Tyrus Thomas was a very intriguing prospect, but #4? Morrison might have slipped off the richter scale. Andrea Bargnani is a very intriguing prospect, and has not been all that bad, but the fact that he was the first pick in the draft shows you that it was a poor draft. Brandon Roy was fantastic, granted, but he was not going to be in the top 2 picks regardless in that draft at the time. Greg Oden would be a Raptor, Kevin Durant would be a Bull (no, they are not trading the pick to the Blazers for Tyrus Thomas) and the draft would have been shaken up drastically.
The reason people point to players having a high success rate coming out of high school is that, those are the best players in that age group. When the best players year after year spurned college for the pro’s, sooner or later people would be like, “Oh, so that is why high school players have so much more success on average than college guys.” So, we had approximately 10 years of the best players consistently coming in out of high school, after a while in greater numbers due to the fact that players who have yet to play against semi-decent competition had “potential” that players who went to college did not, it was obvious that as soon as it stopped, that draft would get fairly shafted. Now I am not saying that players could not come out of high school and contribute, many have, many still would. But, what I am saying, is that now we had that year of screwing teams in 2006, I think it either needs to go back to before than or just stay as is. One and done was happening anyway, as guys who did well in their first year on campus would duke it out with some of the high school kids they killed in AAU. As soon as the NBA allowed underclassmen, it changed the drafting of players drastically, maybe not for the better, but it has not made it much worse either. At least with the current system, the NBA can use the NCAA’s corrupt corpse as a way of getting some potential insurance on their investments. What I mean by that is that players at least have a year to play with and against some athletic peers as opposed to dunking on kids 4 inches shorter and 10 times slower than they are. The NCAA has always been the farm system for the NBA draft, long before people were one and done, believe me people that seeked a career in basketball as a whole did not go to a school necessarily to excel in academics. So, I say, keep it the same. The other options include letting high schoolers getting the chance to enter again, which I have no problem with other than the time it takes to develop them into contributing players and the high margin of error with those who maybe are not the Tracy McGrady, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett and LeBron James class. Or, you can crank up the limit, say you made a mistake, and screw bad teams out of drafting the talent their predecessors had the ability of choosing. David Sterns choice I guess.

Pass FirstParticipantAs far as DC is concerned, wizards and KD fans. This would be the absolute greatest thing to ever happen to the DMV but since there is no chance it will happen I guess we’ll just have to settle for John Wall.

ksmith9Participant2 other things about this draft…How is Al Horford AND Jeff Green not in this mock…if we are going from the 2007 draft up, then that means they are both ready to be drafted. Also I believe scouts LOVE Serge Ibaka, and I would certainly take him over other bigs such as Kosta Koufos.

mikeyvthedonParticipantThe format he used was confusing to people, but I will explain it maybe more clearly. The reason John Wall is not in the draft is because he would still need to spend another year in college. Basically, it is a hypothetical of what the 2010 draft might look like if their had been a rule that players had to go to school for 4 years, and than the ruling was changed to 2 years in 2010. That means the players that would be eligible would be from the high school classes of 2006, 2007 and 2008. So that means John Wall would not be eligible (Unless he actually did go against the ruling since he served a Prep year, so he indeed might be eligible), Al Horford/Jeff Green would have finished college and been drafted in 2008. Serge’s eligibility would be possible, but I do not know what that fake rule would be. Bottom line, rank players from the high school/international classes of 2006, 2007 and 2008. That means Greg Oden, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, OJ Mayo, Michael Beasley, Tyreke Evans, Blake Griffin, Brandon Jennings, etc. They would all either have been sophomores, juniors or seniors in 2010, thus eligible for this “fantasy” draft. So, bottom line, read, say it is ridiculous for good reason or do not comment.

Mr.BigShotParticipantHow does James Harden go before Curry and Westbrook?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 05/27/2010 - 7:05pm #322221
mikeyvthedonParticipantHe went before them in the other drafts they were in? He averaged a triple double at ASU in his fake junior year? They like his ability to grow facial hair much more than Russell Westbrook’s gap teeth and Stephen Curry’s ability to look pre-pubescent? The man has his reasons obviously! (Not saying they are good reasons, but reasons nonetheless). My favorite comment is Jon Scheyer to Indiana-White guy, but I think he’d really fit nicely.
This guy obviously has a sense of humor 🙂0 - Posted on: Thu, 05/27/2010 - 8:53pm #322279
