Am I the only one who feels like the media is over-hyping Durant. Before I say why, I AM a BIG KD fan.
But now that everyone hates LeBron it seems the ESPN and everyone else needs a new media darling and KD is the it guy right now. He is a great player with an even greater future but he is not better than LeBron. This is my opinion based on stats and overall accomplishments so far. KD may be the better human being but I don't understand there all the hype is coming from.
And let's be honest, the only reason Durant won the scoring title is because LeBron sat out the last couple of games and because the Cavs didn't need him to play and score.
He is overrated. Wade, Kobe and LeBron are strides ahead of him still in my mind. He is a tremendous scorer but doesn't will his team to wins nor make his teammates better, and I don't think he is unstoppable either.
how Kobe, Lebron, Wade and other star players flaked on Team USA, Durantula is the man. He serves his country. America is proud.
Heh, too bad they already won a gold medal in the actual olympics.
I saw a video on Yahoo! Sports and the guy said KD is the #1 rated Fantasy Player. He gets to the line A LOT and scores a bunch. Gets rebounds but I still don't see him as a better product than LeBron.
To me he is a slightly better version of Melo.. scoring wise.
So if KD wants to join the top tier of players, all he has to do is, go 6-24 in a key game 7, and air ball, series deciding shots in a successful playoff run. or if he doesn't think his team can get to the finals he can just quit on them against an old slow team that he can destroy singlehandedly.
Kevin Durant may not be the Anti Lebron and all that is right about basketball, but he is definitely a top 3 player in the NBA
Top 3 no. Top 5 maybe. Top 10 yes.
Hes definitly overhyped
Hes an amazing player but hes not better than lebron
Lebrons stats at age 21 were better than durants and he had no team lol.
If he doesnt win a title in the next 3 to 4 years theyre gonna start tearing him down just like everyone else they do this to.
I think he has more Duncan in him than Lebron though. We can argue all day who will be better him or Lebron but he has the personality of a Tim Duncan and he could be as good of a scorer as Duncan was a post presence and he has all the rings.
Haha yeah the whole anti-Lebron thing for how he signed his extension was hilarious.Yeah I love KD but there is no comparison to the big 3 right now. He is a notch below and will stay there until he gets stronger. His commitment will get him there in time though. Let him atleast win a damn series
Durant > Triami Heat
Yea it seems like all of Bron Bron's bandwagon fans have jumped over to KD after he decided to "take his talents to South Beach"
How doesn't he make his team mates better? Because he isn't a passing forward or something? Because he takes the majority of the shots? The fact that his team mates love playing with him, and he has amazing work ethic in itself is making his team mates better. He could be one of the best passing forwards in the game, but that, in itself, doesn't necessarily make his team mates better. It doesn't have anything to do with dropping 10 dimes a game or whatever you think it may be. Making team mates better goes beyond stats. Also, you're comparing veterans to a 21 year old guy. He has a good 5 more years before he even reach his prime yet like to whom you're comparing him to. He may be getting hyped, but it's not like the guy has even maxed out yet, so if he stays healthy, be prepared to see a lot of records broken.
"Top 3 no. Top 5 maybe. Top 10 yes."
top 3 no your right
kobe wade lebron are better
after that i would have no other player to start a team with
durant is becoming a GREAT leader
you guys are underating him
I agree that Durant is a fantastic player and a top 5 player in the league. But even if you compare him to Lebron at the same age he isn't as good.
^^^ That's going overboard. Maybe he's not better than LeBron but to say that he isn't that good when you compare him to LeBron at the same age is ignorant.
KD at 21 years old and 3rd year in the League:
30.1 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 2.8 apg. 90% FT percentage. Led his team to 50 wins.
LeBron at 21 and 3rd year in the League:
31.4 ppg, 7 rpg, 6.6 apg. 73% FT percentage. Led his team to 50 wins.
I wasn't saying "He wasn't that good." He is outstanding. I was just saying people are arguing that he's better than Lebron now, and I don't think he's even quite on the level Lebron was in his 3rd year in the league. They are definitely close though, minus the assists part.
ya, ghettosermon is right on this one. lebron is the better passer, always has been and always will be. that being said durant is arguably better at everything else at the same stage. durant is way more efficient shooting, is a slightly better rebounder, and seems like a better leader and finisher. durant at some point in his career will get 3 or 4 assists per game(or more). so stop this lebron was way better than durant when he wasnt. everyone is different but give the man his due. and right now wade, lebron and kobe are all better but if there was a fantasy draft today, the top 2 picks would be durant and lebron with good arguments either way for number 1. and i hate lebron but stop praising durant for signing an extension because lebrons first ever extension was with the team that drafted him. durant would be like 27 when his contract is up and could bolt as well(although i don't forsee that).
lebron is a bette passer then KD like they said above
he evens out with his shooting
lebron is a A
but right behind is KD with B++++++++++++
but this year durant will have better stats his year
unless lbj goes wild with avergin triple double
"and seems like a better leader and finisher"
What has he done so far to show that he is a better finisher? Lol come on man...
KD could be overhyped by the media but he is not over rated. He is really that good and is only 21. He could improve his passing and defense but those are really the only flaws i can see and he played pretty good defense for the Worlds. I have KD as a top 5 player for sure. My thing is who is better than him really. Durant will get stronger to work in the post with age and weight training but he is already a dynamic scoring and gets steals and blocks despite not being that strong defensively.
Kobe, Lebron, Melo, Wade, Durant.
Howard comes later because he is still weak on moves in the post and free throws.
Chris Paul is a beast when healthy and why he was hurt Durant leapfrogged him
There is nobody else that I can sit hear and really make a argument that they are better than Durant without BSing
I would also give him the number 3 spot when talking about scorers.
so who would everyone say is better Kevin Durant or D. Wade
d wade better now. but its close. and to me durant just feels like a better finisher(more like a kobe). he has hit a few big shots and with his free throws he just seems like a better finisher than lebron.
The media will jump on and off stars in a instant,LBJ took a public preception loss this summer, insert Durant. Nothing new. He is one of the L's best,so its justifiable to the four letter empire. Durant isn't the best, but Lebron wasn't either a few years ago and the love machine was behind him.
Steroid, you're post was EASILY the best on this topic. I agree with everything you said.
A lot of people just look at stats lines and then use that as comparison. They say, "look at the difference in assists per game when they were 21" etc. What people fail to realize is the reason Lebron has such unbelievable stats is that the system he plays in is one where he is EITHER the guy shooting, or the guy passing to the guy who is shooting. A lot of people don't really get that (additionally, this is the exact same problem Chris Paul and the Hornets have). Just because you're getting assists, that does not make you a great team mate.
The role that Lebron plays is like Super man. For his team to win he has to be heroic.... but that's also his biggest hindrance. If he played in a TEAM system, he would be completely unstoppable. Durant on the other hand learned his 2nd year in the league that for him to be successful, his teammates needed to be successful to. If that means standing back and letting a play be run through Jeff Green or Russell Westbrook, that's fine. Does that make him a bad team mate? No. It just means he understands for his team to be successful, they can't be so one dimensional.
Lastly, the two players are very different. Durant plays off the ball as well as anyone, and he's a much more EFFICIENT scorer than Lebron. His game doesn't have the wow factor that Lebron's has. Durant's a better rebounder, and Lebron is a better defender.
If I had my pick for the next 12 years though, I'd take Durant.
Guys, seriously, Durant vs Wade? Durant. He's better in literally every aspect of the game... and he doesn't totally dominate the ball. Just for fun, go compare the point per possession ratio for Wade and for Durant last year.... I'll help you out
FG% 47.6 47.6
3p% 30.0 36.5
FT% 77.0 90.0
Durant's true shooting percentage last year was 61% while Wade's was 56%, a difference of 10 points per 100 possessions.... again, I'll take Durant.... oh, and he's only 21.
There more things in basketball than just shooting. I'll take Wade. And the statement that Durant is better at every aspect is blatantly wrong. Wade is a better passer, ball handler, slasher, defender, etc. As a matter of fact I would say Wade is better at everything other than shooting and rebounding.
the27guy nailed it.
Yeah Dwyane Wade is clearly better than Kevin Durant. I like how he only posted scoring stats. Durant is better at shooting and rebounding, and Wade is better at everything else. How can anyone in their right mind say that Durant is better than Wade? Really people? Come on guy....
Yeah I was going to say that Lebron didn't make his teammates better just by handing out a lot of assists, he crippled their development by taking every shot OR making every play. There's a reason his teams don't perform well in the playoffs; he carries them in the regular season and they forget how to play by the time playoffs come around.
That said, a lot of the blame was with Mike Brown letting Lebron run the team.
Durant will be the better player because he plays within the team not above it. I remember watching one of Jordan's huge scoring games and thinking, for someone who scores 60+ points this game, he didn't seem to dominate the ball anywhere near as much as modern day superstars (cough, Lebron) do. Durant is kicking it old school on and off the court.
While he hasn't got the accomplishments to get above Lebron just yet as best SF in the League (forget best player for now), give it a few years for Durant to mature and Lebron be less and less ball-dominant.
Who else on the Cavs was capable of creating their own shot? Who on those Cavs teams would you have rather had handling the ball? He dominated the ball because that was the best chance for that collection of players to win. Had Lebron had a quality second option I'm sure he would have dominated the ball less. Dwayne Wade also dominated the ball because like Lebron, he had no one capable of creating their own shot consistently and effectively.
And are you denying Lebron's skills as a passer? Do you not think he got all those assists simply because he was ball dominant? He racked up assists like a point guard, because he essentially played the role of point guard. He was the primary ball handler, just like Chris Paul and Deron Williams are.
Wade actually took a step back this regular season to allow his teammates more time to shine in comparison to his scoring title year so that they would feel more confident in the playoffs.
I'm aware of the limitations of the Cavs roster, but they built that team to suit Lebron and he would have had an input on who they got. The fact is, nobody would be better at handling the ball or creating their own shot than Lebron, so if his and his coach's mentality was that he was the best option every time down the floor whether it was shot or pass, then I can't help but shake my head.
I'd agree that it gave them the best chance collectively to win if they actually took home a championship or made it to the Finals with that system. It only works in the regular season because of the gap between games against the Cavs. Lebron shocks you into defeat intially and honestly, if it was a NCAA system instead of a series that might just work. But when you play a team in a series they aren't going to be shocked by the Lebron factor after the first few game, it isn't going to work like it does in the regular season against quality opposition.
"He is a tremendous scorer but doesn't will his team to wins nor make his teammates better, and I don't think he is unstoppable either."
not exactly true, but to be honest have you ever heard that he makes them worse? Thats always here or there with LeBron, Wade, Kobe. They either help or hinder, Durant just plays and thats hats so exciting about the guy. You'll watch a game and wont notice him. Then check the box score and he put up 35-10. I rather have that then a lose.
LeBron Kobe Dwade Melo are all better going into this season but Durant has a really good chance to overtake them all by years end. I don't really understand why there is so much debating over this cuz it's pretty cut and dry. One thing you can debate however, is that IMO Durant will be the best player in the league for at least 9 of the next 12 years.
