SteezGawdParticipantthat I don’t think UK is the best team in the country. After watching Simmons play and LSU getting their full team back I feel like their atleast 1a and 1b in the sec and I feel both could win a national championship if they start clicking but also wouldn’t be surprised if neither lose before the elite 8. But I will say this I’m more afraid of Ben Simmons than UK. And I never thought I’d say one single player in college scared me more than a Calipari coached UK team.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantAlex Poythress is a curious case. Its one of the first times I’ve felt like an upperclassmen is one of the least mature players on the team, and I dont mean that like hes throwing tantrums, I mean he makes a lot of dumb decisions resulting in turnovers still. The fact that LSU is still completely comfortable with Simmons on the bench is pretty remarkable.

MopgrassParticipantI strongly hope Poythress is just not fully healthy. I know he’s a lot better than this (whole year).

HadzialijagicParticipantSimmons passing is so special.. I’m not saying he’s as good but I also see a lot of Brandon Roy in Jamaal Murray.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantThis has been a great showcase of how Ben plays- he got into foul trouble and his teammates got going, so when he came back in he wasnt demanding the ball or pouting when they didnt hit him in the post, he kept facilitating for guys like Quartermann and Victor, and then in the last 5 minutes of the game with Kentucky still looming he put his foot on their throats and took over

ExumInfernoParticipantSimmons showed what he can do against an NBA team, and played well. While he did sit for a long time early with fouls, he still had a double-double and didn’t miss a shot from the field.
It was probably worth it for him with the early foul trouble, one of the fouls was for sending a message that he wouldn’t allow UK and Skal to cheap shot him. He had been hit on the previous defensive possession, which the refs missed.
Lock for top pick.
Simmons leads LSU in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and is close to equal best for steals. That is impressive.

SteezGawdParticipantall I heard in my head was the end of "Gotta Have It" by Jay and Ye off Watch The Throne. "Take em on home". UK was so afraid of Ben Simmons having a big game he literally facilitated by his presence alone. Quarterman had a great game that guy plays so hard and is so pesky, the type of player you love having on your team in a 5v5 pick up game and hate having to guard you cos he never takes a play off.
UK bigs just aren’t smart enough, you can’t have lee and poythress in a starting line-up all they’re going to do is foul, and with Skal still learning how to play UK is in a tough position, relying heavily on their guards and for as great as Ulis and Murray are (top 5 backcourt in entire country) that sometimes gets negated by the fact that after they penetrate and look for someone to kick it out too they find Briscoe wide open (for obvious reasons) and he’d put it up. They lack that athletic wing Cal usually gets that even if they don’t put up threes they’ll atleast drive to the paint and get fouled trying to NBA jam on the whole squad.

Memphis MadnessParticipantI had Ben Simmons down for 16, 9, and 5. He finished with 14, 10, and 3.
He did enough, and showed some great glimpses of potential. He helped ice the game down the stretch.
Didn’t settle any issues about his jumper. Not sure he took one.
Still looks like a power forward. So, maybe a point forward. Where I really think he has potential as a ultra long small forward who can rebound, slash, pass, and be a team’s secondary ball handler. Now, he would have to work on his outside shooting.
I don’t see him as a full-time ball handler. Not even LeBron is a guy who handles the ball full-time.
Playing the point might also take him away from a couple of his strengths: rebounding and throwing down alley-oops.
I also see him guarding 3’s and 4’s, not guards.
A good comparison for him now might be a taller, more talented, more athletic Boris Diaw. He does everything on the floor and is a great passer, but plays the 3-5 spots, not guard.
I was impressed with the LSU team. They have some good talent on the team and it looks like it is coming together.
I can see them taking a run at the SEC title.
It’s not just the Ben Simmons Show at LSU.
