I dont think it cracked all the way, they play against #11 Florida on Saturday if they can win that game and win the SEC tourney or get some good wins in the SEC tourney they may can slip in.

That’s a BIG if. Just because you’re the more talented team doesn’t mean that you’re going to win.

I agree, I doubt UK will beat Florida, but IF they can get that win and another valuable win in the SEC tourney or win it, II THINK they can get in.

Poythress, IDK what’s been up with him all year, dude just looks like he doesn’t even want to be at UK, this UK team does not have the discipline of the past teams Coach Cal has coached, that’s why they aren’t as good, they have the talent, just uncoachable.

They are not beating Florida on the road IMO…and what is with Poythress he only took 3 shots in a must win game for them. He’s gonna get pushed out of Kentucky due to better players coming in and he is no where near ready for the nba imo

I keep seeing them being on the last 4 out list and I don’t even know why they’re on that list. What is their best win? Ole Miss? They won’t make the tourney either.

Any time, we have a sick pleasure in watching our teams blow it in the final minutes when the games matter most.

The Only way Kentucky Gets into the Tourney is if they win the SEC Tournament…Even with Nerlens Noel they didnt look like a tournament team……Coach Cal can’t wait until next season, when those highly rated recruits come in…..So it’ll appear that he knows how to coach…..

I would say Kentucky was done when Noel went down but lets face it they were done when the season started. The seasons pretty much over and they still haven’t figured it out yet.

A mess of a roster. No shooters, a PG with no balls, we were lucky to get a 12th hour transfer in Julius Mays. Cal screwed up bigtime with roster manangemtn. Saying that I think he had Shabbaz locked up and maybe Bennett till the end. Oh well all teams rise and fall.

I think you are gonna see this trend from cals teams if he keeps the one and done philosophy. Some teams will gel and take to coaching quickly and those teams will be scary good like last year. Then you will have teams like this year that will win games off their talent alone but will never really play up to their potential cause they are kids. Last year had a few keys pieces that were still around like lamb, jones , miller.

I don’t think Kentucky fans will have to wait long though to be dominate as next year you could be unstoppable with what you have coming in plus I think you get one of randle, wiggins or Gordon.

I reckon the best thing for him is to transfer, he aint ready for the league and he will be stuck behind better talent at UK.

Good idea. He needs to go play for a better coach. Poythress has the physical tools to be a dynamite player but doesn’t know how to insert himself to games. He’s got a role player mentality, which he’ll likely be at the next level, but if he doesn’t grow some assertiveness he’ll eventually be a lower end role player as opposed to a higher end one.
Looking at his final list, Florida would be a great choice, but if he’s released I’m sure there would b a stipulation where he couldn’t transfer to an SEC school. The other choice is Memphis… which is meh.
I think he’d be great somewhere in the Big Ten where the coaching is WAY better.

I know everybody picks on him, but there are Junior colleges that Ryan Harrow couldn’t start for. Coach Cal is going to have to invest in at least one surefire 4 year bench player per class like Coach K. This way he always has one extremely gritty tough hard working, does it the right way, just not good enough to be a star guy. It helps in practice and when you have to sit a great prospect to teach him a lesson. One year a pg, the next a wing and the next a big.

Well.. Wiltjer is a 4 year player, but he is soft and has no leadership qualities to speak of. And Cal has another 4 year guy coming in next year with Derrick Willis (3 star out of Mt Washington, Ky). Mays has attempted to pick up the leadership role, but you can tell he’s uncomfortable with the whole situation. The team is really frustrating to watch, especially considering last years team spoiled every Kentucky fan.

I haven’t seen Wills but Wiltjer is a four year player by default. He wasn’t recruited as a four year player and he doesn’t fit the extra effort gritty guy role at all.

They have to make a serious run in the SEC tournament to make it in. 4th in the moderately ranked SEC and only 20 wins looks like a NIT bit to me.

I think beating Florida is a must win to get it, and then after that they need to win at least a game or two in the SEC tourney. Their only ranked win was vs. Ol Miss who has since dropped out of the top 25 and Missouri who once was ranked before they played. They have no centerpiece victory for their bid, just a handfull of top 40 RPI wins, the bright side is no real losses to horrible teams.

A&M at home was pretty terrible. I don’t know the computer numbers so they may be decent, but it was a bad loss regardless.

Last year’s team was a bit of an aberration, but this year looks like a perfect storm. Most Coach Cal teams have been to at least the Elite 8 over the past several years.

Now, if Kentucky struggles again next year I would worry, but they are still a top destination for high school talent. That’s how teams like UNC, Duke, and Kansas make at least the Sweet Sixteen nearly every year, even if they lack true superstar talent.

I would worry though if High School classes don’t produce the superstars. Then Coach Cal would have to rely on getting guys that play great together with complex offensive and defensive schemes. I don’t think that is Coach Cal’s strong suit.

I’m a lifelong, hardcore Kentucky fan and this team is the most unappetizing basketball I can ever remember watching. A lot of people here are wrong in thinking this team is talented. They aren’t. It’s not that they have talent and they aren’t playing together, they just aren’t any good. Poythress has 0 handle and 0 motor. Julius Mays couldn’t start for a good high school team, Ryan Harrow was a complete whiff. He’s useless. Goodwin and WCS are the only two talented players on the team now that Noel went down. Goodwin plays out of control a lot, but he’s the only person that can get the rim on the team and he’s force to take a lot of bad shots. Wiltjer is completely useless unless he’s shooting a wide open three. He has no speed, no defense, no character about him.

Unless the win the SEC they won’t get into the tournament and they don’t deserve to. I don’t really even want to watch them play anymore. It would be different if they played hard. Playing hard and not being good (like Notre Dame) can get you into the tourney and get you some respect. This UK team doesn’t deserve anyone’s respect because they play lazy. This is the first time in something like 10 years that a Calipari team didn’t have a top 10 defensive efficiency team.

I place most of the blame on Harrow. I hope to god he transfers because after semi-quitting the team earlier this year he doesn’t deserve to have a scholarship. It’s a shame you don’t get points for pump-fake threes, if that was the case UK would be #1.

LOL, come on bro I know Ryan Harrow hasn’t been that impressive, but he could start for any JUCO in the country, the dude is still a HIGH MAJOR talent and he has performed a few times this year, I wouldn’t go that far saying he would sit at some JUCO’s, I highly doubt that.

Cal was some kind of wonder-coach. How can he not get a talented group like this to play good basketball? It looks like he just rolls out the basketballs and goes to sit in the bleachers and call/text next years recruits to me.

Wiltjer and Poythress have been the most disappointing players on the team to me. Wiltjer has no game to me. Only a jump shot, no hustle at all. He’s the slowest player on the team and cant guard a soul.
Alex has been by far the most disappointing in my eyes. I dont even see glimpses from him. i see glimpses from Harrow, but Alex has no effort or sense of awareness. He’s too soft and rarely shows emotion.
I remember earlier in the year when Sean Woods (former UK Unforgettable and now coach of Morehead State) received some media heat after calling out the current UK players. He said they werent the typical Kentucky Basketball players, they dont understand what it means to play for Kentucky. He said after seeing them for a few minutes he saw that they werent dedicated to Kentucky and its tradition. He also said that neither of them probably knew any history about UK if you asked them.
Their season as of late has made his comments look absolutely on point

For the Harrow doubters, myself included:

In UK’s losses: Harrow has averaged 6.9 points (29.1% shooting), 1.3 assists, 1.4 TO.

In UK’s wins: Harrow has averaged 16.9 points (49.7% shooting), 5.6 assists and 2.3 TO.

The wins stats are as good as any PG out there. Eff that Junior College garbage.

I thought Kentucky is supposed to be judged basically by what they look like without Nerlens Noel….assuming that is the case, there is no way they are a tourney team. They have been mediocre-bad the whole year, no marquee wins, really nothing to get you excited, the name on the front of the jersey and the coach and expectations don’t buy tourney bids. They are bad. And I know every Kentucky fan thinks they are going to be AMAZING next year, but assuming they miss out on Randle and Wiggins, they aren’t going to have the most incredible recruiting class of all time. They will have missed out on the 3 best players, including the only 2 sure things. I like the twins, I like the other 2 top 10 recruits they are bringing in. But if all these guys ditch for the NBA (For their sake: They should. This draft blows, Goodwin, Poythress, and WCS are all first rounders right now, they should just go while they can. Next year all of them could be coming off the bench.) then they are going to be in the same boat with a bunch of inexperienced players and no depth.
