Kentavious Caldwell gets the 'Brad Beal treatment'
If there is someone who you can assume is gonna be a great shooter based on his mechanics is Kentavious, he fits that bill to perfection. it is nothing new to say but &$#%#&@!... Pope has the best 'catch and shoot' mechanics i've seen since I started watching college basketball, and what separates him for everyone is the elevation on his J:
he catches the pass as he is coming down from a timed step and effortlessly jumps, gets great elevation and lets the ball float to rim, throwing up perfect rainbows that softly reach the rim... all in matters of a second.
he seriously needs to work on his handles if he wants to make big impact in the NBA
KCP just knows how to execute the catch and shoot. Spot up shooting is usually a job for a role-playing specialist (ie. Steve Novak), but what separates KCP is his athletic ability in getting to those spots. He can dart to another side of the arc, and let a shot fly even with a close-trailing defender.
I agree that once he reaches the NBA he needs to have a better handle. He pretty much can't move with the ball if he's being guarded by a decent defender. He also needs to utilize his J further and develop a mid range game.
He's got great form but his form doesn't matter if he consistently takes bad, contested shots. Him going to Georgia was a mistake IMO. They're a bad team so he has take a bunch of difficult shots. He had some bad habits to begin with as far as shot selection and he's not in a position to correct them.
"Him going to Georgia was a mistake IMO. They're a bad team so he has take a bunch of difficult shots."
that wouldn't be an opinion, its a fact. he still has no real 1 to 1/ breakdown moves other than chuck a 3 over defenses. if he was on team who could consistently find him open, it would be more clear he's the best shooter in the class
I expect him to shoot in the low 40's this season as Georgia has NO type of playmaker on their team, which is exposing KCP ability to create his own shy which will hurt his stock
I watched parts of their game yesterday and my goodness are the Georgia Bulldogs a bad SEC team! I believe the score at halftime was something like 25-12 with Youngstown State winning...
KCP did at least show that shooting prowless that causes threads to be made about him on draft websites, but as said above me, he has work to do on other parts of his game before we can consider him a top level SG prospect.
No1 besides Pope scored a FG in the first half for Georgia.
Saw dat. Like 3-20somethin' lol
How does Beal go 3rd in a strong draft but KCP , can barely get into the lotto?
a lot more games in the same league and Beal led them in scoring and was doninant on the boards for a guard showing other intangibles.
winning = exposure etc etc
