i know Kendall Marshall had a horrible rookie year and the suns management don’t seem to have much faith in him by going out and getting Eric Bledsoe., but i still think that marshall can be a starting point guard in this league. His court vision and passing ability is already among the best in the NBA, hes just not really much of a scorer right now, yet he rarely looked to score at all. AT UNC Marhshall was said to have the best court vision in College ball in the last decade. If people remember him at UNC he was starting to show his scoring and shooting ability towards the end of the season before his injury and i think he has the potential to be at least and average scorer.

What do u guys think his potential is? How good can he be? I think he be somewhere along the lines of Andre miller, with probably a little less scoring ability but more passing. I think Marshall is the kind of a player who would stand out more with better players around him.

Jose Calderon, minus any offensive game….I think he’ll be a backup point at best

Jose Calderon is only a decent player because he has that solid outside shot.

If he didn’t, teams would just run under the screens and Calderon would be stuck dribbling near the top of the arc like an idiot. In the process, making Calderon a very ineffective player.

If Marshall indeed becomes a Calderon without a jumpshot, then he’d be out of the league in a couple years.

I hear the suns have been trying to trade him.. That might be a good thing for him because he only averaged 5 minutes a game .. They dont feel he has much upside. His major flaw is he is still a terrible shooter.. 27 percent with the suns/31 percent in the d leagie/33 percent in the summer.. If he gets in the right system, he might do better.. Because is smart,a great passer with size

I like Marshall, but to say he can be better than Miller is way premature. Not many have ever been better than Miller.

Unathletic, poor shooter, no defensive ability. Backup at best. He is a terrific passer though, I’ll give him that.

He’s actually pretty athletic. Have a peek at his draft combine numbers, very surprising. He just isn’t aggressive so it doesn’t show.

He might have to spend some time in Europe, the coaches there will definitely help improve his shot and defense

Kendall Marshall will make it as an NBA point guard. An unsteady rookie year for a guy who came in needing to fix a few things in his game to project as anything more than a backup shouldn’t be all that surprising. It also shouldn’t mean he’s not an NBA player.

Marshall has the ability to make guys around him better and despite not being a good outside shooter, he is not a guy who takes bad shots or many shots at all, for that matter. I think he has the makings of a very good backup point guard, spreading the ball around and getting in transition.

I thought he was taken too high in the draft, but despite a shaky rookie year, I think he can have a nice career putting up numbers like 6 ppg 5 apg as one of the best backup point guards in the NBA and a guy capable of running an offense and filling in as a starter.

A lot of guys playing backup roles are good and could produce at a high level as a starter, they just aren’t the best guy at their position on their team. I think Marshall will be one of those guys. The type of guy who could start and average 9 or 10 apg in starters minutes, but isn’t one of the top 25 PG’s in the league, so most likely he’ll be on a team that has a PG that is better.

to be incredibly honest, he has no pros outside of passing. No shot, no driving ability, no defense, not any special ball handler that can get into the lane consistently and so on. Sure point guards need to be good passers but passing alone doesn’t make you a NBA point guard

Rajon Rondo has EVER shot for a season. Marshall isn’t a great shooter, but he’s not as bad as some imply, and at 22, he can improve. Jason Kidd was a horrible shooter when he was young, too.

The one thing everyone agrees on here is that shooting is his biggest weakness, but honestly being a poor shooter is the easiest thing to fix. He’ll never be a sniper, but have a look at guys like Tony Parker and D Wade who have improved their shots tremendously, and while not elite shooters, they’re very capable mid range threats. All it takes is a summer or two to rebuild your form and take a few hundred jumpers a day.

He needs to be a 38 to 40% 3 point shooter and a decen mid range shooter to justify being a back up. He doesnt play great defense so he will have to be good on the offensive end. I see him becoming a 34% or a 35% three point shooter max and that wont be good enough for him to get consistent minutes in the NBA. He is a borderline second point but probably a third point guard in the NBA.

D-Wade is streaky midrange shooter and an absolutely terrible 3 pt shooter. Not exactly a comparison I’d want if I’m trying to improve my jumper.

Just becuz Rondo is a poor shooter and Marshall cant shoot, doesnt mean they are similar players…..Rondo can affect a game with scoring a point……Rondo can penetrate, play the passing lanes,a good rebounder and he’s a good athlete…..

It remains to be seen if the Suns will pick up his option next year…..

I think Kendall will be a solid NBA PG, maybe not a starter, but at least a back-up. The comparisons to Mark Jackson are pretty valid. He might be a bit more athletic than Jackson was. Kendall isn’t a terrible athlete by any means, he’s just obviously not even close to the levels of Westbrook and Rose. He obviously has a lot of things to improve, mainly his outside shot and I think he will. A change of scenery would be best for Marshall since the Suns are obviously not keen on keeping him.

As much as I don’t want to see them continue to get better, Chalmers would be a great project player for the Heat to pick up if the price is right.
