Is anybody else a little surprised that he still hasn't been picked up by anybody? Even though I was never very high on him, I have to admit that I am surprised that he at least hasn't been picked up by anybody only one year after being drafted in the lottery. I read that the Celtics have interest in signing him but that doesnt mean that they will. This could potentially be a sign of him heading to Europe.
I would like someone to answer this question for me. Even though he got Cut does he still get the $1,919,160 that was on his contract?
he still gets it because it's a guaranteed contract and they didn't agree on a buyout.
So some people were saying he should have stayed in college to improve. I disagree. He played with tremendous talent in college and looked better because of it. If you don't improve playing against better competition then you weren't cut out for the league in the first place. At least he made one year of NBA salary which is more than he would have made with whatever bull&$#%#&@! degree he was going to get had he stayed longer and people found out he was lame while still in college. This is the reason why people go sometimes before 'experts' think they should. &$#%#&@! the NCAA, &$#%#&@! &$#%#&@!, get paid.
No Marshall clearly needed to stay in college to improve his.jumper and scoring instincts. He was never going to get the chance to do that in the league and with shooting you really need experience to breed confidence.
At UNC Marshall was always going to be surrounded by high level talent anyway including McAdoo, Hairston and Bullock.
I think he should bypass Europe for a year and go to the D-League. He'd be more on the radar for NBA teams, and if the injury bug hits someone he could get the call up. He was pretty productive there last year (7.6 apg), and I suspect he'll be one of the better point guards in the D-League this year.
If he doesn't have any suiters this season or in the summer, then I think his best bet would be to head overseas. I really think he's good enough to play in the NBA, but that lotto scale contract compared to what he actually does is killing him. If he were making 800 K, I think he'd have a job right now.
I know a lot of people are low on him. And that's cool and probably expected. But tell me that the Utah Jazz or Boston Celtics couldn't use him, with Trey Burke and Rajon Rondo out respectively? Im sure it's real cheap to sign him right now.
I'm more surprised Shannon Brown hasn't been picked up yet, or has he ?
Kendall Marshall simply doesn't fit in today's game. Maybe 10 years ago, but not now. PGs nowadays are fast, athletic, and can jump over guys. Kendall Marshall is the opposite of all that. He needs to go to the right team, a team that slows down the game into a half-court setting for him to be effective.
So why has nobody talked about the Spurs yet? Sure they don't really need him, but he'd be set up great if they signed him or put him in the dleague. Tony Parker isn't overly gifted athletically, he is just sneaky with getting by guys.
The Celtics were interested in signing him,but cant afford him...Becuz signing him will put them over the luxury tax and make them a repeat offender...
I never saw it in his game. Like tongue out said he is not athletic enough to be effective.
I remenber saying that Wroten was the best pg in that draft and teams are crazy to consider Marshal over him. How do you use a lotto pick on an unathletic pg that cant shoot and didnt average double digits anything in college?
Now Lillard was clearly the best pg last year but Wroten is breaking out while Marshal is heading out. With that said Id rather.the Sixers sign Marshal and cut Darius Morris.
You need a jump shot if you aren't an athletic point guard and marshall doesn't have a jump shot. Which is why he is out of the league, he is a good player, just not naturally athletic and he didnt develop a jump shot. There are some people who had they been athletic they would be in the NBA, life isn't fair that is why none of us are in the NBA. I mean NBA guys work very hard but if you give some one derrick roses athleticism or kendall marshalls athleticism the guy with derrick rose's athleticism is going to have a lot better chance being in the NBA. Derrick rose also works very hard which is what makes him a super star. I am just comparing athleticism.
What about Golden State? He could be their pass first point guard off the bench behind Steph Curry. Or, you could go small with Marshall running the offense with Steph Curry off the ball. It would also reunite him with Harrison Barnes. I think Kendall Marshall would help their bench guys (Barnes, Draymond Green, Mo Speights).
They play WAAAY too uptempo for him to play there.
The bigger thing about Kendall's athleticism is that he's a liability defensively. He just can't guard with smaller, faster point guards. There are a lot of point guards with shaky jumpers (rondo, wall, bledsoe), but each of those guys are solid to great defensively because they're great athletes. If your a liability on both ends of the floor and your a point guard who needs to have the ball in his hands to be effective, you don't belong in the NBA
Even Marquis Teague who was drafted 16 picks after him has a higher ceiling than him. I know Teague has got less minutes than Marshall got in Phoenix and that they have not got the same amount of time to prove, but I remember getting negged for saying that Teague is still going to be better Marshall after Kentucky won the national title.
you are right, marshall is more skilled, but teague is way more athletic and in the NBA that matters. I dont think teague will be great, but he will be a solid backup.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Wizards sign him sometime down the line this season since he is a local guy. Eric Maynor and John Wall have both had injury issues in the past couple of seasons. They do have his rights since they waived him if I am not mistaken......
