Kemba

Who does Kemba Walker remind of? I was thinking Ben Gordon. Small shooting Guard that can score quickly and in bunches. But for some older cats thats pure Vinnie Johnson the Microwave.

Darren Collison with better scoring instincts. Maybe Aaron Brooks.

I like the Aaron Brooks

I like the Aaron Brooks comparison...small, quick guards that score all over the court in bunches....neither are true pg's.

I don't get how this guy gets

I don't get how this guy gets picked in the Top 10. IMO he's a Lou Williams/Ben Gordon type player, a sixth man that brings a scoring punch of the bench, that's not a top 10 pick.

Last night he didn't have his best game but kept shooting instead of trying to get his teammates involved, I think that clearly shows he's not a PG in mentality.

No team in the NBA is going to use Walker the way in which he is used this year at UConn. It is easy to get caught up in the numbers, but unless someone thinks he is the next Allen Iverson it isn't going to work in the NBA.

^ actually my thoughts, he's a sixth man in the NBA and to be picking a 6th man in the top ten is just ridiculous IMO.

kemba being a point guard

People don't get confused by what you saw against pitt it is very simple scoring is kemba's role for this uconn team. Uconn does not have alot of outside scoring so kemba has to pick up the scoring load. Kemba could become a good point guard he has great speed, always puts the pressure on defense so at the next level he would create alot of open shots for teammates..btw he is way different then ben gordon he is way more of a true point he will not be doing this in the nba..and ^delfam what are you talking about ben gordon was not worth being a top ten pick I would rather have a ben gordon off the bench then having a darko as my starting center. Not everybody that gets picked top 10 is a starter and it doesn't mean just because your not starting your not a top 10 talent

anyway delfam

anyway delfam kemba is good enough to become a starting point guard in the nba..not on everyteam because the point guard position is so deep but he could end up starting on a team that is weak at the point guard position it depends where he gets drafted

you saying he could become a

you saying he could become a good passer and just has to score is dumb IMO. Being a PG is a mentality, flipping the switch from scoring to passer is very difficult. I just don't think Walker has the mentality to be a passing PG.

I also do agree with you that a 6th man can be drafted in the top 10, but when teams pick in the top 10 I think they are more looking for a starter.

read again brother

I did not say kemba could become a good passer I said he could be a good point guard due to the fact that he is always putting pressure on the defense, and what I mean by that is he would bring alot of attention by the help defense because of his ability to blow by people and his ability to score..and when the defense has to constantly help it creates alot of easy kick out or dump off passes for easy assists..and I agree with you to be a great point guard you have to have a certain mentality and some ppl or just born with better point guard instincts, and it is very difficult to switch mentality's but you cannot argue with me that he does not have to be a scorer on that team, its not like he is in the same situation as a kyrie irving who has a great team around him and it is easier for him to focus on being a good point guard and getting everybody involved..Uconn had no scorers and the only polished offensive big man they have is ohriaki.

top 10

yea usually when teams pick in the top 10 they are looking for a starter but for me personally I would rather pick the most talented guy even if I have to bring him off the bench at least he would be 6th man or be a big part of the rotation

for example

for example look at russel westbrook when he came out of ucla.. he was not a good passer and he still isn't a good passer he puts his head down alot but he is averaging about 8 assist because he puts so much pressure on the defense with his driving ability and it leads to an easy assist..having kevin durant on your team also helps

how tall is Kemba really ...

because if he's 6'2 or bettr he can be a good bench scorer at worst...this year has been a revelation for Walker and has gotten him a lot of exposure...but then there's overexposure...If they sell him as a PG he's doomed to be mid first to late 1st round pick...but if he's sold as a scoring combo guard ala Monte and can measure out nicely at 6'3 with good speed and vert test I can see someone taking him as high as 5th in the draft...

At worst?..He can be lower

At worst?..He can be lower then a bench player. He could be out of the league in a couple years at worst. I doubt that he will but its possible

He doesn't shoot nearly as

He doesn't shoot nearly as good as Aaron Brooks. He has similar slashing skills, but a big reason why Brooks is such an effective scorer is because he can slash very well with his speed if you crowd him or if he gets a step on you in the pick and roll, but if you dive his screens he's about a 40% shooter from 3 and he's effective shooting off the dribble or spotting up. Kemba Walker isn't going to be much of a threat shooting the ball, definitely not nearly as good as Brooks, and thus doesn't look very likely at all to provide the scoring arsenal Brooks has.

Worst case scenario for Kemba is a Sebastian Telfair-type career IMO.

brooks

aaron brooks. depends on how he is used. if he used in an fast upbeat push the ball offence he could be ok because of his speed. if he goes to a team with older slower veterans that play the half court game he will not be as effective

JNixon don't shoot down

JNixon don't shoot down Kemba's shot, from his freshman year to now, it's almost automatic.

So was Darren Collison's jumper as a Senior at UCLA, and Jeff Teague's pre-Ish Smith in his Sophomore season. He's not the 1st player to shoot good early in the season or even if he continues to shoot good, to not translate it easily to the NBA. Kemba Walker isn't going to translate his early shooting to the NBA easily at all. He might develop a decent shot later in his career when left open, but I doubt his shot translates against the athletic and more physical gifted PG's he'll see in the NBA, especially at his size. He's have to do more to get it off, and the extended range also doesn't help.

tooting my own horn (no homo)

again I would like to pat myself on the back by saying I had Walker as the 2nd best PG if he would've been in LAST YEAR'S draft....
