Kelly Oubre to Kansas

After having a Tremendous Summer on the Travel Circuit Kelly Oubre had jumped up everyone's rankings and is a top 15 player on everyone's list. He also reeled in offers from just about everyone. He had officials set up for KU and UK but canceled his UK official after visiting KU and has now Committed to Bill self and the JayHawks. This is a big time pick up for Kansas because we all Know Wiggins is out of there after this year. But this 6'7 200 pound stud can step right in. This past weekend he was in Colorado for USA basketball and Eric Bossi of Rivals said he looked like the best player threw out the entire weekend.Everyone in the gym is a high level player at events like these. I've seen Kelly Oubre in person and I was really impressed. I am also a Kansas fan so I'm excited. Seems like Self is really starting to pull in Five star prospects more than ever.

I really like Oubre's silky

I really like Oubre's silky smooth game. If they lock up Cliff Alexander as well (which is becoming likely) the 2014 team could be better then this years as long as Embiid doesn't declare.

Total Agreement

I love Oubre as a player. I'm pretty sure I described him as a 2 on one of the other forums and still consider him a sg. He's got great size and athleticism for the 2 spot and he can stroke it from deep. In addition, the lefty is decent off the bounce and I think he has the potential to be an above average defender. I also think Kansas will be better in 2014-2015 than this year. There is a good chance they are also going to get a commitment from either Turner or Alexander, both of whom would have immediate impacts. So even assuming all three star freshman leave, Kansas will have a lineup of either tharpe or frankamp at the point, some combination of oubre/greene/white at the 2 and 3, and then have perry ellis along with alexander/turner up front. There bench would have whichever two guards dont start plus frank mason and jamari traylor. Id take that team over a team playing mostly freshman and sophomores.

Me being a UK fan I was

Me being a UK fan I was hoping Oubre would have came to Kentucky, but Kansas was a solid choice too. Bill Self is a good coach and he has a winning pedigree, but lets face it the knock on him and Kansas are that they always lose and mess up everybody's bracket come March Madness. Maybe the way he is recruiting now things will change for him. I guess only time will tell.

This is way off of the subject in a way, but as far as getting guys in the pros he doesn't have a strong history of doing. The one's that were getting drafted were mainly forwards and centers. Why because of Danny Manning. Now that he is gone I feel like guys like Perry Ellis and Jamari Traylor suffered and they couldn't put out like everyone expected with all the hype. We cant use Ben McLemore because technically he was a red shirt freshman that actually got to expierence the practices and the way you go about your business in college basketball for a whole yr. What do you all think

Kansas has a losing history

Kansas has a losing history in March? Since 2007 Kansas posted at least a sweet 16 finish all but one year ( 2009 ), made it to the elite 8, 4 of those 7 years ( 57% ) made it to the final 4 two of those years, including two National Championship games ( 28% ) and winning it all once.

So Kansas, who has made 57% of the Elite 8's since 2007 and played in 28% of the NCAA Championship games since 2007 has a serious problem losing in March? While Kentucky made the NIT last year, Duke has 3 first or 2nd round losses in that time frame, North Carolina was stuck in the NIT in 09-10, but it's Kansas who has a long history of losing in the NCAA tournament?

Danny Manning was an extremely important person being involved in Kansas' program, and I do think a guy like Traylor will suffer a little in his post development, as a result, but Perry Ellis is a skilled guy and pretty polished as a post player coming out of high school. I'm not going to pretend Danny Manning wasn't an awesome personnel developer, but KU has probably the best strength and conditioning coach in the country and a very capable staff.

I'm a big Bill Self fan and

I'm a big Bill Self fan and Kansas is my favorite team outside of Kentucky. However, it's worth nothing that arbitrarily choosing 2007 as a starting point for March success skews the results because Bill Self had two consecutive first round losses in the two years prior to that. Kansas also lost to Northern Iowa and that three point shooting Iranian kid in 2010. Honestly, if you have the kind of clout that UK, KU, UNC. etc. have anything other than a Final Four is a failure. If mediocrity is OK, why drive to get better?

I didn't choose it

I didn't choose it arbitrarily. It was the first season where the lineup was primarily Bill Self recruits with sparsely used bench player Jeremy Case as the lone player left over from the Roy Williams era, and since 2006-2007 KU has only had that lone loss to NIU is really the only early round bounce out. Self won an Ntnl Title with his first and second recruiting classes as the upperclassmen leaders of the squad.

Roy Williams stated he wanted to wait until his "class of seniors" left before he left for UNC when he took the Tarheels job. This didn't set well with his highly touted class of sophomores Simien, Miles, and Langford. There was a complete change of guard and although all of they were classy guys that adapted and key players in KU's next two seasons, there were growing pains during the changing of the guard as Williams' carry overs were trying to learn and adapt to new leadership and a new system.

Of course the top programs want Final 4's, but my comment was in response to someone stating KU has a history of getting knocked out early, in comparison to other top programs. Sure, losing to VCA was an upset, and they blew it against Michigan, but my whole point is that they don't fall short of other top programs as far as tournament performances over the past few years. UK, UCLA and UNC have completely missed the tournament in the past 5 years.
