Olynyk is leaving Gonzaga to enter the draft.
We all saw this coming at some point, now is his chance of being a lottery pick with next year being a way stronger draft class. I think he will do very well in the pros, the way he moves his feet as a 7 footer. This is also now the time for Przemek Karnowski to shine. After being one of the top international prospects who surprisingly made the decision to play college ball in the states. I know part of the reason why he struggled to get a spot in the rotation was due to his conditioning issues but I've been following Karnowski since the was named to the all tournament team in the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championships.
Second C on my draft board. Not much of a leaper, but lots of post moves, great passer, vastly improved on D. Reminds me a little of Vlade Divac. I think if he played at Indiana, and Zeller played at Gonzaga, he would have way more hype.
You really hate Zeller and Len don't you?
No, I dont hate them, I'm just pretty skeptical when it comes to bigs. I cant really point to anything Zeller does better than Oly other than being a little bit bouncier. And Len certainly has potential, but at this point size and athleticism are his main attributes. his overall skill is pretty raw, and once guys hit the NBA, their size and athleticism advantages shrink massively. Even 7' dudes who can jump and run the floor need to be able to play the game from a team perspective. 7 footers have it easy in college. Few teams have a guy whose as big. In the NBA its different. So given that, i'm partial to the guys who have killer motors, well developed post games, and an established sense of defensive positioning. I'd take Oly's understanding of where to be at the right time on the court over Len's superior athleticism every day.
I understand. I am a huge fan of Olynyk, but Zeller and Len have too much potential. You know Olynyk is going to be a solid big and you know what you are going to get from him, but Zellers and Len ceiling is much higher and GMs tend to draft potential much more than readiness.
Congrats to Olynyk. As a fellow BC native, this is great to see. Fun fact about myself, I was coached by Olynyk's high school basketball coach (Del Karmoninski) over the summer time back in 08'. I remember watching Olynyk's team over the summer play at the Gonzaga camp the Bulldogs hosted every summer. He was really, really skinny back in the day lol.
I know he wont fall this far, but i would love to see him with Lob City, they could have a great 3 man rotation of Jordan, Griffin, and Olynyk
