Kansas vs Baylor. (really looking forward to this one)
Am I the only one really looking forward to this game because of match ups?
Dunn vs Shelby
Marcus vs acy
Markieff vs Perry
I think Kansas wins by double figures (possibly blowout) but. Those should be some very interesting match ups. I expect alot of blocks and a couple of people getting banged on as well
Selby for 20 + today please
I'll watch any game where LaceDarius Dunn plays. I love that guy's game. I think this game will be competitive. Kansas struggles a bit against zone defenses, which is exactly what Baylor runs most times. I wouldn't be surprised if Baylor pulled an upset in this game. They have the talent to do so, and the style of play. I expect Baylor to win by about 3.
JNixon if Baylor has such athletic, quick guys why do they run a zone? It isn't like they cannot keep up with most teams they play if they were to play man to man. Just curious if you knew why they do play zone.
It happened about 3 years back when they struggled and didn't make the NCAA tourny. They were playing bad D and it ruined there season, but at the end of the year Coach Drew taught they played played better because they switched from a man to a zone. So he stuck with it.
Ok, thanks, was always wondering, appreciate it
I love my boyz but they haven't exactly been blowing people out of the gym, yes they have a big point differential margain but they have beat up some bad teams. I really think since this game is in Waco its anyones game. It will be interesting to see how Selby rebounds after sitting most of the second half vs Nebraska. Morris twins need to play real big tonight!
Because ur quick, long, and athletic doesnt mean that u shouldnt play zone, it makes it more effective because the defenders can react to shots and the ball quicker and have a better chance of cutting off passing lanes. and they can alsp throw different zones at them
Kansas is 8 or 9 deep..They should try to get Baylor in foul trouble, becuz Baylor doesnt have much depth....
Dunn averaged 21 points a game in 4 meetings against them last season....
Baylor is coming off a 17 point lost to Iowa State...And will be hyped for this game...I wont be shocked if they pulled an upset....
Yeah. Baylor's zone isn't a pure zone either like Syracuse's for example. It's a zone with man-to-man principles.
But Syr vs Pitt is a big one too. Interested in seeing if Perry Jones stands out or is passive. I think he can prove a lot tonight if he dominates. He could hurt himself a little if he does not show he is really up for this game.
I overrated Baylor as a team before the season. They just aren't that good( as far as me having them ranked)
Definitely called this wrong. Here's what I picked up:
This was my 1st time watching Josh Selby in college. He's a talented player, but he's not all that polished. He's going to be good though. He can shoot the ball well and he's got nice athleticism and speed. He's ultra-agressive too. Still, his ball-handling looked improvable and he really doesn't look like a PG at all. I like that he tries on D, even though he's still a bit raw off the ball.
Marcus Morris is the best player in the Big 12 probably. He's a true mismatch player, he's a good athlete, and he's got very nice quickness and grit. He's not the most physically gifted, but he's adequate enough and he's really energetic. He's not a shot-blocker, but he plays fundamental D and has the ability to switch anything. He's also a menace on the offensive glass. Morris reminds me ALOT of Tyler Hansbrough. I think that's the best comparison.
Markieff is a good player too. He's not as talented a mismatch as Marcus, but he can stretch and hit jumpers too. He's visably taller at about 6'9 or 6'10, and he plays like a true low post guy. He's a good rebounder and finisher at the rim.
Tyshawn Taylor has always been an overrated prospect, but his love has calmed down alot since his Fr. year. He's not a scorer, but he plays good D and is a decent playmaker. He was great on LaceDarius Dunn. He's an average prospect to me, but he can play a little. He's not a great ball-handler at all for a PG prospect though.
Perry Jones is going to make an ideal 2nd or 3rd option for some team. He's not all that tough or aggressive, but I think he'll get better with those things. He's better the closer he is to the rim, but he has a soft touch, a nice mid-range game, solid handles for a 6'10/11 guy, and he's a solid passer too. He needs to get stronger and develop on D, where he struggles a bit other than the occasional block. He also needs to work on his rebounding fundamentals. He RARELY EVER boxes out.
LaceDarius struggled, as Kansas gameplanned to take him out of the game. He was face-guarded by Morningstar, Reed, and Tyshawn Taylor. Dunn is obviously a great shooter, especially spotting up, but he really has below average handles. He struggles to get to the rim cleanly. I think he'll struggle with that in the NBA too. He's not very quick or athletic. Still, I love his game at the college level.
Quincy Acy was largely ineffective. For someone with his length, athleticism and motor, Acy is a mediocre defender and a good but not great rebounder. He's not skilled offensively, and is a poor shooter, so for him to make the NBA he'll need to work on those things. He did a poor job boxing out and made a number of lazy closeouts on jump shots in the Baylor zone.
A.J. Walton is terrible. Never liked that guy as a PG, even at the college level. He's not a Big 12 caliber starting PG. He's very TO prone, and he lacks mental toughness alot of time.
This was a classic case of when a really good team plays a mediocre team.
Where is Tweety Carter when you need him?
I'm i the only person that thinks Markieff will be a better pro than Marcus?
Someone compared Marcus to former UCLA Bruin Ed O'Bannon..But O'Bannon was more athletic...
When are people going to stop putting perry jones at the top of their mock drafts ? For a guy 6-10 / 6-11 he is soft on the boards....
@RUDEBOY, I think Marcus is still the better prospect, but I think Markeiff is ideal for a pick and pop post player in the NBA who plays good D. He handled Jones on defense and although Perry had some points it was mostly when shots were created for him and him hitting free throws. Just about anytime he tried to create his own shot against Markeiff, he'd get pushed out of position or just bested. I think Markeiff's game in the pros will be very similar to Kurt Thomas' and I think he'll have a long career as a defensive starter or key bench player in the post.
I agree with most of Iggy's analysis, especially his take on Taylor's defense, I see him as a mid to late 2nd round pick, but a guy who could play in the league. I thought he and Sherron Collins were a horrible combination, and playing with Selby and Reed(who don't need the ball in their hands the majority of the game to be effective) plus another year of maturity has really helped his confindence.
more and more i think Knight is really better than Selby especially being 1 and a half year younger but probably more ready..only agressiveness and athleticism are things i love more about Josh
Markeiff could be the Next Haslem. I think Marcus can eventually move over to the SF position or be a Al harrington type pf
