IMO he is VASTLY overrated…and thats coming from a U of A fan. He definitely has the size of an NBA center, but thats about it….

He’s an average athlete, poor rebounder and poor shot blocker. Coming into Arizona he was supposed to have an advanced back-to-the-basket game, yet he scored his 6 pts per game off of garbage buckets.

I realize he is young and he has room to grow in a lot of areas, but being projected in the top 10 in 2014 seems like a major stretch unless he makes huge strides this year.

He seems to me like a less athletic Myers Leonard, and Myers Leonard without athleticism is like Ray Allen without a jumpshot: useless.

They aren’t great numbers, but hardly “poor”. He also shot 54% from the field, without being a real part of the offense.

It’s not like he is projected as a number 1 pick. He is late lotto to like 18. That’s a good range for a young big man. It takes big men a few years to develop. I think he will have a good year this year. He has good touch around the rim. Big men don’t get a lot of touches in college. I think at 10 7 and a little more than a block is reasonable for him in 25 min a game.

Him being projected in the top 20 is expecting him to make big strides this year. I’m with AZcats09, he is overrated. And I as well am a UA fan. He’s slow, his post game is limited, his hands are average at best, and he doesn’t do anything defensively that leads me to believe he’ll make it at the next level. Only reason he’s being discussed is because he’s 7ft tall. It’s possible he will make it in the NBA someday, but I don’t see it being next year, he needs to be a 3-4 year guy.

I agree. He just looks like a back up C, a banger. He doesn’t do any one thing particularly well, but he plays hard and does what he’s told. If he’s in the back half of the lotto, then the back half of the lotto is weak.

He scored in double figures 7 times and his current career high is 12 points. I know they didn’t exactly use him a ton but he needs to show more scoring ability in college to be considered a lottery pick…especially because he isn’t a great athlete or shot blocker.

Is he overrated? I haven’t heard people talk that much about him really. I know he’s ranked high on the .net mock draft, but outside of this site he hasn’t been hyped that much IMO.

Ultimately, there’s not many players with his size. He’s a big dude who won’t get pushed around even at the NBA level. He would be a valuable back-up center or could start in a Kosta Koufous type of role (obviously with more physicality though).

He was a freshmen big, most freshmen bigs don’t do that well in there first year in college, they have to adjust. By year too you see what all the hype is about. J.Henson didn’t do much his first year. Same with

    Jeff Whity
    Roy Hibbert
    Jok Noah

He has the basic tools to get better and should be better this upcoming season. On another note his freshman would be great for Embiid Whois much more raw

He is Jake Voskuhl/Scott Pollard at the next level.

Im from New Hampshire so i had to go see this kid play, we havent had anyone come out since Matt and Luke Bonnor, not including Rashad McCants in our prep league, by seeing him in person, i wasnt really impressed. Playing against mostly Mass, Vermont, NH and Maine kids i would expect him to dominate being such a highly recruited player and no real talent coming from there other than Noel, who i saw play as well. Vastly overrated, Noel dominated, Kaleb just looked lost, yea theres not many 7 footer competition with skill so he should be putting up 30 and 15 to be honest, place this kid in any major basketball city and his stock will fall tremendously…

i feel like his stock would rise dramatically if he was in a bigger basketball city. think about it, he played against the best kinds in aau. so whats the difference? if he was in a bigger city then his stock would only rise unless he played bad…which he played good in aau so whats the difference?
