I wasn’t the biggest fan of his before the tournament, afterwards he grew on me for his hard nosed game and intensity. Now he plays for the Heat and I have an obligation to really root for him and ‘like’ him.

I specifically want to talk about about his handles. He is crafty with the ball and while he might not be the quickest guy, he’s just so smart about reading open lanes, mismatches, and angles to attack the baskets and while he might not exactly be putting up beautiful finger rolls, he gets the job done, and by saying that I feel like im selling him short, I dont see the Harden comparison because their games are nothing alike to me. One similarity, and a big one at that given alot of people don’t posses that particular ability, is Winslow creativity in the 1-2 step (euro step), side step whateveryouwannacallit similar to Harden’s.

And that is what this thread is about, while Winslow might not have the flashiest handles or the quickest 1st step, he is smart and sooo good once he gets going on those 2 steps before a layup.

I like Winslow and he did kind of look like Ron Artest/Metta.  I also see why Detroit pick Stanley Johnson over him.  This is not a knock on Winslow because he played well but Johnson appears to be more looser and fluid where Winslow apears to be stronger but not as fluid.

I like Stanley Johnson over him for this reason too.  Stanley seems more fluid with the ball and both are outstanding players.  Justice might be a better finisher though.

He doesn’t have too much wiggle in his game so I don’t see the Harden comparison, but he’s a safe ball-handler who doesn’t waste any movement, is comfortable handling in transition, protects the ball with his strength and doesn’t try to do anything he’s not good at. Before the draft people were talking about how weak his off-hand is and I’d have to disagree.  Left-handers tend to be very left-handed, but I saw countless times this past season where he went and finished right. He’s comfortable going right. The Stan vs Justise comparison is inevitable and I’d say that between the 2, I’d rather have Justise handling the ball because I think he’s the better PnR handler with his better pace and vision.  I also like the fact that he doesn’t waste anything.  Stan plays in modes and when he has mind made up that he’s putting the ball on the deck, he has a tendency to pound the crap out of the ball looking to set up his own shot, which, shooting off the dribble isn’t even anything he’s good at.

Winslow’s getting a look in summer league at the point.  Don’t think they’d experiment with that if he had a weak handle.

My post wasn’t directed toward you, son. Just noting that he’s getting looks as the primary ball-handler, son.

Winslow going 10 is nba gm’s don’t taking into account the heart parameter in their prospects evaluation, same reason guys like draymond green and dellavedova fall so low in the draft procces…
