Before i get into this I have to mention that all of what I’m writing is most likely wishful thinking and I know that it have about ZERO chance in happening.

I was wondering if DeMarcus Cousins demands for a trade, what team will be the perfect situation/fit for him AND the team. I got this from the Grantland Basketball hour on ESPN.

The team I would say is the Washington Wizards. You have his buddy and probably his closest friend in the league in John Wall. DeMarcus Cousins would be in the EAST, guaranteed playoff berth. I believe if you put them together with a decent supporting cast you will have a team that can compete for the championship. You can just put three and d guys around them, a shot blocker, and get avdecent coach you will have something. In my opinion John Wall is the 4th best point guard and DeMarcus Cousins is the best center in the league and if put that together you will have the best center/point guard tandem in the league. Those are the two key positions in the league and if you have both your team will be dangerous.

I know it’s wishful thinking and it’s most likely won’t happen.

The thing Simmons offered up was what it would take in a trade scenario. Don’t think WAS wants to give up Beal and they have no other real trade assets (Porter and late 1st round picks aren’t enough).

Now wouldn’t they give up on Beal? That is a good question I would say. If you get DMC for Beal, Nene and a future first? Would that be enough?

It would take a very high draft pick plus other assets to make any trade happen, the K-Love trade I’d use as a guideline. If the Knicks or Lakers got top or 2nd pick they may make an enquiry but someone like George Karl would not advise to trade an asset like DMC unless the price was right.

DMC has 3 years left on his deal so it’s not like he’s getting anywhere near to FA.

I get where people are coming with the whole "still under contract", but if a player is unhappy, a player with the disposition of Demarcus Cousins, it’s kind of hard to justify keeping them around with all the negative press and team crippling moral that will come with it. I mean look at Dwight in Orl, Melo/Deron, and Love the last couple of years. Those franchises got ripped to pieces with negativity, and I could only imagine how horrible being a teammate of those guys at that time must have been like. I don’t know if DCuz is at that level of frustration yet, but one can assume it’s coming because I don’t see the Kings being in the playoffs, let alone contenders anytime soon.

I also think it’s worth looking at the teams before and after those trades, and see how trading a super star isn’t always the worst thing. The Jazz are better off without Deron, and BRK is in shambles. The Nuggets made the playoffs even without Melo, and their team has far more talent and flexability than the horrible Knicks. Lakers are the worst team in the league and have ZERO talent on that roster, while Orl has one of the nicer young cores in the league. The T-Wolves have a future stud in Wiggins to build around now, and the Cavs and Love have been up and down all year. Trading a superstar isn’t the cliff dive it once used to be, so people need to stop acting like trading your best player is the end of the world. It’s a new opportunity.

I also think anyone using the Kevin Love trade as a diagram need to forget about that. Cleveland was desperate to win now, and gave up way more than they had to. This is even more obvious when you look at the Moz trade.  It’s not everyday you see a generational talent, last years #1 pick, and an additional first round pick go in a trade for a player who is on the last year of their deal. That’s the type of trade you would expect for Cousins, so anything more than that is just crazy.

I know it’s a homer pick, and I know Celtic fans have an infatuation with DCuz, but I truely believe we are his best fit in play stye and in presense. First off, everyone knows the Celtics have two main weaknesses: A big man inside, and a main scoring option. Cousins would fill both of these roles perfectly. Brad Stevens runs an offense that is predicated on space and pace, and having at least 4 shooters in the game at all times. This would allow Cousins to get easy looks inside, have room to work, and give him shooters to pass too once a double comes. Guys like Sully and Zeller look good in the post in Stevens’ system, so I could only imagine how someone on the Caliber of Cousins would fair.

I also think the Celtics would be a great destination because it would give him a chance to play for a historic franchise and dedacated fan base, but also play for an organization that is considered one of the best run in the NBA. We all joke about the Kings, but it’s not really funny what they are doing. Drafting wierd players, firing Malone out of nowhere, and creating a maelstom of speculation is not what players want to see. In the Celtics Cousins would have Brad Stevens who you know isn’t go anywhere, and Ainge, both of which were just voted at top 10 in the league at their respective positions.

I also think the Celtics have a lot to offer the Kings, more so than any other team in the NBA. Sure a #1 or #2 pick would be nice, but that’s just one asset. The Kings aren’t trading Cousins for just one piece. I could realistically see the Celtics offering the Kings:

Marcus Smart/Jared Sullinger or Kelly Olynyk/ #16 pick 2015/ BRK unprotected pick in 2016/ and our own pick in 2017 or another BRK pick.

How can you beat that offer?

The Kings need defense and a PG. Marcus Smart could fit in nicely in Sac as he’s already shown all NBA potential on the defensive side of the ball, and he might be better suited to play in Karl’s uptempo style of play. Getting a more pollished prospect in Sully/Olynyk would help bridge the gap left by Cousins, and both players are capable scorers. Having our pick this year or next year is just a throw in, but having possibly 1 or 2 of BRK’s picks is huge, as those could easily be lottery level.

I don’t know, maybe I’m a homer, but I think this situation is best for both teams going forward if Cousins wants out

I’m not all that plugged into what Cousins wants…but my guess is playing for a team that won a bunch of championships before he was born isn’t at the top of his wishlist.

That little offer is enticing and would certainly get my attention. If Boston would’ve gotten a top 3 pick last year I wanted the Wolves to send Love there due in large part to those future Brooklyn picks. But if I’m Sacramento, I hold out for either the Lakers or Knicks top pick this year. If Cousisns is available, I guarentee both teams would come after him and if they are picking in the top 5, that’s the kind of asset you can’t pass on. The NBA is a quality not quantity league when it comes to assets. Its why the Wolves wanted Wiggins instead of a boatload of mid level picks/role players and my guess is the Kings would prefer one player who can be a star.

I understand this logic, but do you really think one prospect will get it done? Forget about my Celtic trade idea for a second, and answer me these questions concerning the Lakers and Knicks:

      1) Is one prospect really enough for D-Cuz? I personally say no.

      2) If not, what else are you offering the Kings?

      – Lakers really going to throw in Randle or Clarkson?

-Lakers don’t own their 2017 pick, so Kings are looking at possibly a 2018 pick

      – Knicks don’t have a 2016 pick, so again, you’re looking at only a 2018 pick

-Can either team offer cap relief/take on bad contracts? Sure, they could take on Landry/Thompson/Gay, but without any sweetener, I don’t see how this could happen.

      3) If they do throw in more playes/picks, why would Cousins even want to go their? Those rosters are depleated already, and Cuz would literally be starting over from scratch, which is why he’s upset. You’re hoping these teams hit home runs in free agency because "it’s new york and LA." That’s a huge gamble that has failed for the last 3 super stars that have went to these teams (Howard, Stat, Melo). Throw in the fact that next year every single team is going to have cap space, and what your really saying is "Cousins should come to La and NY because its LA and NY". There is absolutely no basketball reason why a star player would want to willingly go to these teams right now.

I just don’t see the appeal for either of this situations conserning the Knicks or Lakers, I really don’t. Proven talent is still better than unproven talent, especially when we are talking about the Kings, who notoriously have been trying to compete for some time now. Now lets look at the Celtics trade again.

With the Celtics trade they get two young players who start on a playoff team in Smart/Sully, and both players still have a lot of room to grow and would mesh well with the talent already on board. Giving the Kings aditional picks in 2015/2016/2017 gives the Kings a lot of wiggle room for trades and roster shake up, and give them something htey haven’t had in a while. Fleability. Throw in the fact that the Celtics could eat one of Landry/Thompson, and I still don’t see how the Kings can find a better deal this year unless a team like Utah or Minny is willing to break the bank

With the cap increasing and max contracts increasing to the range of $30-$40 Million Boston might be a perfect place for Cousins to relocate. Not to mention playing with a former teammate Isaiah Thomas and in a much weaker Eastern Conference.

Boston could offer a lot of assets. This years pick, future picks Smart, Young and Sully and or Olynyk are all decent chips to gamble with.

The Celtics have at least 3 first rounders due from trades after this years draft in which they own two, so they could send many picks to the Kings but I’d feel the Kings would want some sort of guaranteed high pick if they considered trading DMC.

If DMC did come into play then the Kings could field offers and hopefully create an auction for him.

I think the Knicks would be a great fit, given their interest in winning now and how well Cousins suits the triangle. It is something of a long shot but with a top 3 pick in this year’s draft, the Knicks have one hell of a bargaining chip to start negotiations.

More likely than not, a third team would have to be involved and I think the Nuggets would be a prime target. George Karl has an affinity for their players and I could see him pushing to do something stupid like trading the Knicks’ pick for a package that includes Ty Lawson, Danilo Gallinari, Kenneth Faried and filler; then sign Kostas Koufus in the offseason.
