just curious who is the top 5 pg in the nba
Sorry, but you're way off, dejuicebox. You're looking too far into the future.
As for the next NBA season, the point guard situation breaks into distinct tiers:
Top: Chris Paul
Next: Deron Williams, Chauncey Billups, Steve Nash
Third: Tony Parker, Devin Harris, Rajon Rondo, Derrick Rose, Jameer Nelson
Fourth: Baron Davis, Jose Calderon, Mike Bibby, Jason Kidd
Then a bunch of young guys who have yet to prove themselves, such as Russell Westbrook, D.J. Augustin and Mike Conley.
As a point of reference, I left Monta Ellis and Gilbert Arenas off the list because I'm not sure either qualifies as a point guard.
1. Chris Paul
2. Deron Williams
3. Tony Parker
drop off
4. Baron Davis (who is incredible when healthy)
5. Chauncey Billups
I would not say Jose is too close to being top 5. Top 10 possibly, but pretty far down the line. I mean, Harris, Rose, Nash, Kidd, Rondo and depending on who you consider a PG would be in front of Jose (which I guess would knock him out). Jose is fantastic, but he is a worse defender than Steve Nash, which is saying something (bad).
CP3
D. Williams
Rose
Harris
Kidd
Nash
Rondo
Billups
Parker
Arenas(is he a PG?)
Davis(if healthy)
Miller
Westbrook
Nelson
Mo Williams
Ellis(PG?)
All of these guys are better. Guru sounds like Sheltwon about Sessions. Haha.
Why all the hate on Nash?
Baron Davis is too careless and shot happy, along with being a horrible defender except when he really cares. He's got all the talent in the world and none of the discipline.
... and he will be until he stops shooting 50 percent from the field, 43 percent from 3, 90 percent from the free throw stripe and registering assists on 40 percent of his possessions.
he's done that in every year with the suns.
Everyone's list will be different. I find this very tough to do, but
Fave 5:
CP3
D-Will
T. Parker
"Mr. Big Shot"
B-Diddy (if Healthy)
Next five:
Nash-ty (Gets tough after Nash)
No particular order for next 4
Harris
Rondo
Rose
Nelson.
Good list Rubio, well done.
probably because nash took a step back...baron when healthy is a top pg ..if nash is a top pg and plays no defense then you cant put barons defense as a reason hes not a top pg...and how do you put tony parker in the 3thrid tier adi...really?..do u not like him or something ..because he has proven that he is a top flight pg
1. Paul
2. D. Williams
3. Billups
4. Parker
5. Nash
6. Rose
7. Rondo
8. Harris
9. Davis
10.Miller
Rose, Rondo, Westbrook, Harris are on the rise
Nash and Miller are on decline. I left Arenas off list due to his injury and uncertainty of position. He is really a combo guard.
sorry, but Nash was given plenty of chances to get some assist and points due to his system and I'm not trying to take anything away, but Baron has been the same Player consistently throughout his career when healthy. Nash has not, he started off slow. Baron will tear plenty of Point Guards to pieces with his strength. B-Diddy is good, that's no lie. Ask the Mavericks.
1. Deron Williams
2. Chris Paul
3. Chauncey Billups
4. Tony Parker
5. Rajon Rondo
Next 5.
6. Devin Harris
7. Baron Davis
8. Derrick Rose
9. Steve Nash
10. Andre Miller
Honorable Mention:
Monta Ellis and others are more like undersized 2 guards with A.I, Moe Williams and a healthy Gilbert... no Jameer cause he's hurt with Gilbert
1-Chris Paul
2-Derrick Rose
3-Deron Williams
4-Tony Parker
5-Devin Harris
I think Nash and Billups will oth take a step backwards as they get older. Baron Davis is a tough call because you never know what to expect. Rondo is overrated imo.
Based on the previous lists, seems that CP3 and Deron Williams are the unanimous choices, but the rest of the list varies. I think the rest of your top 5 would depend on what the team needs. Aside from these 2, I also like Billups (plays both offense and defense), plus Nash and Parker. Baron would be there in place of Nash or Parker but I think he's too big an injury risk, while Kidd is too old to be a franchise player but would still be a good fit on a team that needs him for pure playmaking and veteran leadership.
Over the next couple of years, as Billups and Nash drop out due to age, Devin Harris and Derrick Rose will probably join Paul, Deron Williams, and Parker.
As for combo guard definition, doesn't this mean someone who plays both the point ang shooting guard positions? Harris is not a combo guard because while he scores a lot, he only plays the point. Other combo guards would be Ellis, Delonte West, plus perhaps Arenas and Randy Foye. I think AI actually played more years as a 2 guard than he did at point.
I honestly was'nt a big fan of his entering the season. But after watching his first ever playoff game, I was convinced he could become the best pg in the league. His explosion in getting into the lane and finishing is off the charts. He is like a pg version of Lebron james. I think he is gonna pass a lot of the other pg's up quick and start challenging CP3 for the number 1 spot very soon.
1. Deron Williams (Plays with passion, can score, pass and run the Utah offense to perfection. Defense is underrated. Chris Paul gets more steals but Deron Williams can lock down his man.)
2. Chris Paul (Most have him above Deron Williams. Can't go wrong with either.)
3. Chauncy Billups (Does everything his team asks of him. A true winner.)
4. Tony Parker (Scores at will and plays in the offense. A great point guard always plays within the offense.)
5. Steve Nash (On the decline but still is one of the best shooters/passers in the league. Went from overrated to underrated pretty quickly.)
Rondo and Rose are good but have gotten too much hype based on their playoff performances. Jason Kidd was considered but he doesn't score enough. Harris and Nelson are really talented but are not as skilled as Nash. Calderon and Miller are special players but aren't spectacular enough to be top 5. Baron Davis puts up good stats when healthy but he isn't better at Steve Nash at anything except getting steals.
Off the top of my head
Top 5 Paul, Williams, Parker, Billups, Nash
Next 5 Nelson, Harris, Rondo, Davis, Calderon
Next 5 Kidd, Mo Williams, Rose, Miller, Westbrook
Next 5 Duhon, Bibby, Ford, Felton, Conley
Last 5 Fisher, Brooks, Blake, Stuckey, Udrih
Missed some Monta Ellis, Arenas, Sessions, Foye
yea cuz agent zeor is a combo..if he was included rose would definatly come out actually parker is easily top 5..it always baffles me when people forget about him
Billups is great, but I think he drops out of the top 5 next season. One knock I have on him is that he seems to have bought into his own "Mr. Big Shot" hype a little too much. He took some horrible quick shots in the Laker series when things started getting rough. If it had'nt been for his reputation, people would have been calling him out for it. He does make his teammates better, but a lot of that also has to do with the fact guys like Carmelo and JR Smith need the ball in their hands and they would have benefitted from playing with just about any true pg instead of Iverson.
Billups has not played that great in the confrence finals for a couple years now. Also, it was his decision making which I called into question which when you are a veteran, who's gaurding you should'nt effect your decision making. Beside, it's not like I'm saying he's weak, just that I belive he will drop out of the top 5.
1. CP3
2. Williams
3./4. Tony Parker/ Billups
5. Nash
I think billups should be at least top 4 if not top 3. And the whole nuggets team is full of players that take quick shots. If Billups wants to shoot it instead of throwing away another possession to a 32 foot JR Smith jumper so be it. Billups was still the best player on that team the whole playoffs.
carmelo might have had more points but i dont think he was the best player. that team was a mess without billups, no leadership, poor defense, lack of intensity. billups came in and brought all that talent together and when the rest of his team couldnt get it done he just did it himself.
by whole playoffs i mean body of work as a whole. if you say billups was bad for the lakers series but he was great against N.O. and dallas would you really say he wasnt the best player the whole playoffs or just not the best for a series?
since only a few ppl are willing to be honest ima do it 4 everybody. as much as we love our fav pg's we got 2 be honest and say:
Steve nash: is on the decline. When shaq came all his numbers dipped. and when amare was hurt nash wasnt near the factor he used to be on the bball court. I mean the guy is getting older and he will lose a step of his quickness next season. the jumpshot may fall off a bi this season as well. now im not saying he wont score but i think the 30 point games may be a memory. And now im hearing rumors about an amare trade? if this happens it wont be much of a reason for nash to want to stay in phoenix i dont think.
Jason kidd: now we all knew the mavs f***** up when they traded devin harris for kidd but we didnt think harris would blossom into the the all star he is so quickly. and kidd really is becoming a liability for the mavs now. he isnt the best outside shooter and he is getting older. He already couldnt guard alot of guys last season and that will only get worse this season. now i hear that he is about 2 sign a 3 year deal with the mavs? money well wasted
Baron davis: what to say? well he was outta shape all last year, very overpaid, shot terrible, and has a complete dumba** not only as a coach but also has a gm. I think most of the reason baron struggled is becuz mike dunleavy wont let him be free and take control of the team. But also baron is getting older and im sure after elton changed his mind last season and signed with philly that didnt help matters. Fact is baron isnt the same guy we fell in love with when we watched the warriors
With all this said its time yall leave these men out of your top 5 pg. They may have been there years ago but now there are guys like Rondo, devin harris, tony parker, derrick rose. these guys are simply better

i ask because BasketballGuru24 guy says jose calderon is top 5
