Just to be the devils advocate....

With Portland expected to make a move to sign Hedo and Martell Webster coming off of injury how expendable do you think a ticked off Rudy Fernandez would be? If Webster is healthy there is going to be someone left out of the rotation and I think they could get some serious interest in Fernandez from other teams.

One team that I think would be seriously interested would be the Timberwolves.who currently have no true two guard other then rookie Wayne Ellington on the roster. Fernandez is only 24 has good size, provides great energy and fills a huge need as a 3-pt shooter ( .399% last yr ). His contract is very inexpensive and has team options on the two yrs. This best part is he is a friend and former teamate of Ricky Rubio on DKV Joventut and the Spanish Nation team which would only add to the intrigue of Rubio's future with the T-Wolves.

i think minnesota

would be a convient place for rudy, especially with rubio there. but we dunno for sure if rubio if staying with the rubio-flynn situation there.

rudy isnt the only player portland would shop if hedo is signed. outlaw and webster would probably be on the move as well. for all we know, rudy may stay in portland to backup roy.

Very true im sure Portland

Very true im sure Portland would do their due dilligence to gauge interest in all three players, but Fernandez is the one who has shown the immediate displeasure and had some issues on how Nate McMillan used him last yr.... let alone if Hedo signed. Out of all the players I think Outlaw would probably be the most untouchable considering he can spell both the three and four while both Rudy and Webster swing between the two and the three. Webster may be slightly harder to move considering he is coming off of an injury and his contract is heaftier then Rudy's.

As a Timberwolves fan I might be a little bias, but I really do like the fit. IMO Rubio is going back to Spain this season regardless of any moves made in free agency, I just like to stir the pot a little. In all seriousness Rudy would have 2 years left on his contract which would be the same length of Rubio's DK Joventut contract giving all parties involved plenty of time to work things out and the T-wolves to decide a direction to go in.

If Rudy happened to find success and was treated well it just might be enough to sway Rubio to play in Minnesota and if Johnny Flynn is playing good basketball Rubio can still be shipped of to another team to improve the team elsewhere.... Win/ Win situation

actually i think

travis outlaw is the main attraction on Portland's trading block. the Blazers have been listening to trade offers for Outlaw most of last year and years before. it's true that he is a versatile forward who could play both the 3 and the 4, but the same goes for Hedo as well. not only that, but Portland drafted Victor Claver, who is also a tweener forward like Outlaw and Turkoglu, but I'm not sure if Claver is staying overseas or playing this year. if he's joining Portland, that gives Portland other reason to trade Outlaw.

from your standpoint, I think Rudy would fit the needs of your T-Wolves, a shooting guard who can shoot. i think Minnesota should look to deal either Gomes, Brewer, or Carney, most likely Gomes. i find it kind of ironic that Minnesota traded their only two shooting guards in Randy Foye and Mike Miller, and they used the pick from Washington to draft a point guard and only to draft another point guard. and NOW, they're looking for another shooting guard? lol... to me, Jonny Flynn is more of an offguard than a natural point guard, but theres a problem when he's only 5'11".

haha that wasn't by

haha that wasn't by design... if the draft panned out the way everyone thought it would either Harden or Evans should have been there at #5, not Rubio. That put them in a sticky situation considering Rubio was supposedly a concencous top 3 pick sitting in their laps at #5 and the shoot guards they scouted were off of the board. Jordan Hill wouldnt fit in with Love and Al... Flynn and Curry both were pg and they never ran DeRozen through a workout. So the Golden rule when your are stuck in a rut.... take the top player available on your board etc Johnny Flynn... the rest is history.

At the end of the day it does work out... The hardest positions to find good players at are center and pg, so having 2 good prospects isn't all that terrible especially considering Rubio might fininsh up his contract in Spain.

Dont forget Hank Norel

I dont really buy into the fact the Rubio doesnt want to play in Minnesota. He has said it. The reason he might not come is economic issues, not an issue with the team. If they got him, you have a young teammate, and with the Timberwolves drafting Hank Norel, Rubio would have an easy transition to the NBA, and possibly a ROY.
Also, If that happens, then can we declare DKV Joventut as the Timberwolves minor league team?

The Timberwolves will be great.................................................................in 3 years

Who would they trade for to

Who would they trade for to get him? Wolves don't have a lot of assets other then Rubio and they won't trade him if they are getting his friend.

FERNANDEZ

Im a knicks fan and would love fernandez. Im sure he would love to play in our style system too. Maybe we can take fernandez and outlaw off your hands for like Chandler and Jeffries

Blazers get:
SF Wilson Chandler ($1.18mill)
F Jared Jeffries ($6 mill)

Knicks get:
SG Rudy Fernandez ($1.08mill)
SF Travis Outlaw ($4mill)
F Shavlik Randolph (800k)
PF Michael Ruffin (800l)

Draft Picks

The Timberwolves have draft picks, and money. They have 2 2nd round picks, and possibly 2 1st round picks. And considering he will be a backup, and hes mad, they will want to trade him
Would you want a mad player on your roster, getting all of your players upset. He has value. They will want to trade him.

MSNY that is a terrible

MSNY that is a terrible trade for Portland. They are giving up the 2 best players in the deal plus 2 others for 2 lesser talents then they already have.
