JP Tokoto...

had a monster game against Davidson last night. 22 points, 11 rebounds, 5 blocks, 4 steals, 5-6 from the free throw line. Nice to see him mkae some free throws after the 4-13 debacle against Belmont. Tokoto seems like a swiss army knife for Roy. He can do a little of everything, defend, rebound, pass, and hit an open J. He has really improved since last year and is the beneficiary of Hairston's suspension and not playing this season. He is playing with confidence and taking advantage of the opportunity given to him. His J is much improved and he's hitting some threes now. I'm not saying he's a first round pick now, but if he continues to improve, he could really shoot up draft boards.

JP

Yeah, his defense and athleticism will always be there for him. If he continues to pick up the efficiency in his offensive game he could end up being a mid to late first rounder eventually. I compare him to Thabo Sefolosha for the thunder. Great defender and a glue guy and can knock down the occasional jumper if needed.

Add Marcus Paige & Brice

Add Marcus Paige & Brice Johnson into the mix of UNC players that have stepped up their game....JP & Johnson should return..They would be mid to late 2nd rounders if they came out in this deep draft...

Paige will be a 1st rounder next year..But he would be a top 10 pick in 2015 in a less taltented draft,if he came back.....He has to be the most improved player in the nation, doubling his point total last season 8 pts to 19....

Freshmen Nate Britt has some offensive potential, needs work on his defense....With 3 highly regarded incoming freshmen ranked in the ESPN Top 20 and those guys returning ,UNC could have a top 5 or top 10 team next year..

RUDEBOY I am a big Nate Britt

RUDEBOY I am a big Nate Britt fan. When he attacks the rim good things happen, and he has a great mid-range game, and is probably the fastest guard end to end UNC has had since Ty Lawson. He has no hops, and he needs a quicker release and more range, but he is an excellent floor general and game manager. I don't think he will ever be a starter in the league due to lack of hops and athleticism in general, but he could possibly down the road be a back-up or good 12th man.

Yeah I've seen Tokoto a lot

Yeah I've seen Tokoto a lot and see his potential..I think he ought to stay another year though and refine his game just a little more. Wouldn't take him in the first round at this point.

He has freakish athleticism

He has freakish athleticism that can't be taught and has a high b-ball IQ (when he chooses to). Needs to work on his jump shot and his focus.

Reminds me a lot of Joe

Reminds me a lot of Joe Alexander. Freak athlete, average skills for a college player. Definitely going to get drafted, every GM thinks they can maximise these potential guys, but I'm not so sure he is an NBA player. Only skill that is above average is his D which is really good, I'll give him that, and if thats all he ever has he'll probably still find a way to keep getting paid, every team could use more glue guys.

If it we're up to me, the

If it we're up to me, the starting five would be Britt, Paige, Tokoto, Johnson and Meeks, with McDonald, Hicks, Simmons and McAdoo coming off the bench. McAdoo should have left while he was hot, because now I see him as a mid 2nd rounder....Yikes.

To me, Tokoto has much higher

To me, Tokoto has much higher upside than Sefolosha. I just see something in him that tells me he could be a star in the league IF his development comes along. The problem is, at UNC, development is a big IF under Roy. first thing is he and everyone else needs to improve FT shooting. He is gonna get to the line a lot so thats a must. He is noted for his defense but he is actually a guy you can run the offense through from the high post because of his ability to drive, pass and his improving jumpshot. Every time I think of him, I think of guys like Westbrook who scouts kept a close eye on due to jaw dropping athleticism. Once scouts saw that Westbrook could do certain things, he skyrocketed up the boards.

I dont think Tokoto will shoot up the boards like Westbrook but I think there are going to be some teams that will be absolutely be in love with him. With PJ being done, Tokoto benefits the most. He was a highly ranked player earlier in his HS career and stalled and fell under the radar a bit. He has overall skills package and the main thing he needs now is that confidence to be aggressive with his game and he can put it all together. It looks like he is on the way to doing that so we will see. If he does...I liken him to Derozen with a lil bit of Vince.

Always had high hopes for him

I agree with Surves analysis. He just needs to find a consistent scoring weapon/option. Some games he is a total non factor in every statistical category. He definately could do with one more year but I wonder if the backcourt/swing position might be more crowded next year. If he followed a similar development tradgectory as Oladipo next year he'll be first rounder for sure.

its funny you mention Oladipo

its funny you mention Oladipo because when he was a freshman....I said this guy has NBA potential. He had the athleticism and he played smart. You could see he was gonna get better. Now look at him. Tokoto can have a similar rise. We pay too much attention to guys ratings when they come out of HS. Had JP been top 25 coming out of HS, he would be more known than he is now...but dont think the scouts aint watchin.

Hes in the Derozan and Vince

Hes in the Derozan and Vince Carter mold, meaning that he has the athleticism but if he gets a consistent jumper he can be really good. JP is a really good defender and rebounder. Hes quick and can take it to the rack. Hes lottery talent, but he needs a jumper. Me and my brother always say hes gonna impress at the combines because he looks like a NBA 3. GM's love kids like this. But can he hit that consistent jump shot

Late 1st rounder next year

The Derozan and Vince comparisons are a reach. Chances are he isn't go to develop a good jump shot if he is shooting 50% from the line at this age. I think he's got the potential to be a sturdy role playing 2 at the next level ala Iman Shumpert, with a ceiling more like Oladipo.

His combination of speed and athleticism is pretty amazing - next season will define his career.
