Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantJosh Smith.
He’s a much better passer and could work out in a Gasol/Bynum type mold. Not to mention, Scola is towards the end of his career, he doesn’t play defense, and there’s nothing he can do that Smith can’t.

Vivid5292ParticipantI was having a discussion with a few of my friends, one of which happens to be a Rockets fan, and we spoke about all these trade rumors going on. The idea of Dwight coming to Houston was intriguing and we thought about possible pairings.
Then we got into an argument about who’d we rather have alongside Dwight and who’d be a better overall compliment to his game: Luis Scola or Josh Smith. I think that they’re both generally underrated players in some aspect of the game or another.
My friend chose Scola and I chose Smith. The reason I chose Smith was because I believe he’s the better overall player. Although his jumpshot isn’t consistent, he has the ability to make open perimeter shots. He can also run the floor pretty well, rebound offensively, handle and create scoring opportunites for his teammates. On the defensive end, I believe he’s a specialist as he is always liable to give you 2 blocks and steals a night as well as playing pretty good team defense and on-ball.
My friend said he’d take a chance with Scola’s defense and bet that his offensive game works better because he is more polished in the paint, efficient, and can hit high post shots. He doesn’t even believe that Scola is that bad of a defender.
Who would you choose and why? What do you guys think?

CodySLCParticipantHe’s a more versatile guy who can play 2 positions. He’s a great defender, rebounder, and passer. Could u imagine trying to score at the rim with those to protecting the hoop? Not to mention he’s way younger.

SubZeroParticipantMan, I would love to see Josh Smith and Dwight play together. Maybe that would make Dwight actually enjoy himself again on the court playing with an old friend of his

B-ball fanParticipantJosh Smith is just the superior player. He would fit better next to just about any center. He is a game changing defensive player, whil Scola is very limited as a defender. Smith is also the much more dynamic offensive player. Imagine having to contain both Smith and Howard on the pick-and-roll. That would be tough to stop.
I don’t think Houston could get Smith easily, as they would have to get some steals with any trades for assets to trade for Howard. They won’t get Howard with players currently on the team. It is an intruiging possibility, though.

ASAP HenryParticipantJosh Smith no doubt. Imo he’s one of the most underrated players in the NBA. Extremely versatile and he really seems to care about getting better and helping his team in any way. Scola is a fine player no doubt, but Josh Smith is very good and still has more room to improve as a player. I just wish Josh Smith could go a good team where his skills would be more appreciated. He really is a great talent

IndianaBasketballParticipantI guess I’m the only one who thinks Scola would compliment Howard better.
He’s a more complete offensive player than Smith. He can play in the low, mid or high post. He’s one of the most skilled players at his position. He’s also not going to produce the same bone headed offensive plays that Smith does.
Smith is younger, more athletic, plays better defense and would be more exciting to watch with Howard… I think Scola would be the better fit right now though.

royk927ParticipantHe’s a better passer and is younger plus Scola has bad knees but both would be pretty good next to dwight

FastAndFuriousParticipantI don’t think Smith is a good team player……..

PulseGlazerParticipantSmith with Dwight would MURDER opposing pick and rolls. For that alone Smith, but he fits better most other ways too.
