He’s been lightin it up in Summer League, I know its only SL but hey. But he’s also stuck behind 4 guys in Memphis Conley/Allen/Bayless/Wroten

Selby needs to get to a team where he can get some minutes and also learn from a veteran

Ideally the Knicks would be a greta landing spot, he can learn from J-Kidd, his defense prowess can be maximized by Woodson and him and Carmelo are tight.

Knicks could move a future 1st rounder and a filler for Selby, Memphis gets a pick and the Knicks get their PG of the future who fits the mold of the new age of point guards

Selby is a 6’3 Combo guard who really needed more time in college to learn and refine his game but now he is stuck on a playoff team with a loaded talented backcourt and really needs to learn from them. knicks have enough offensive talent now, Selby would not be a good fit, he needs to learn and embrace his role of a bench player who can come off the bench and break down 2nd unit players. hes a shooting guard in a point guards body, hell never be a player that really finds other people their shots first and then his therefore the grizzlies should let him develop for awhile and then allow him to gain confidence because hes extremely talented but is much better served as a guy who is a scoring punch off your bench.

New York has 1 39 year old PG, a 35 year old PG and a guy with many question marks

Selby is like Westbrook more of a 2 but can be an effective lead guard, not true Point Guard but Lead Guard if coached and molded that way

This guy had top 10 talent coming into the draft like Perry Jones for example a guy who wasn’t coached the right way. Selby and Anthony could be a very nice combo together Melo vouches for the kid and I could Knicks brass trying to get this kid

This guy is an explosive scorer, he’s still undersized and needs to add weight but he has serious potential, best case scenario for him is monta Ellis, worst case is jerryd bayless

The knicks need someone who can get their other players involved…  if you are comparing shelby to westbrook then you are implictly stating that he is not that person. I assume that they got Felton because he was good in the PNR with Amare and he is not bad on D (you have to find a way to make Amare and Carmelo work given how much money you spent on them… that is the litmus for the knicks not whether or not they have good young PG talent).

I like where your head is at though. Shelby definately looks like he could fill the OJ Mayo role now that OJ is gone. I think he will be the 3rd guard by the end of the year, even if he is behind Bayless coming out of camp. The problem with your trade scenario is that after the summer league memphis will prob have him overvalued…. There was a time when Beaubois was considered untouchable by Dallas…

He is more of a Bayless type player than anything, IMO.  He can get hot, but he’s not a very good PG or decision maker at that position.  I don’t really see a scenario in which he’s ever running an offense in the NBA as a full time starter.  There are a lot of quick combo guards that can get hot from 3.  I just don’t see what Selby does to seperate himself from the pack…kinda like Bayless.

The fact that he’s playing well this summer league is a good sign, but he still has the same holes in his game.  Could be a successful guy to bring off your bench and shoot, though.

and I like prospects as much as the next guy but the way posters on here think that every guy good in highschool will be a great NBA player is ludicrous. Josh Selby will never be Monte Ellis with a low side of Jerryd Bayless. I was really impressed with Josh this week and he looks lean and quicker. His upside is that of a very slightly better Bayless and light years away from Ellis. Really, really Ellis, the guy that might end up averaging over 20 ppg for his career.

Jerryd Bayless was Vegas Summer League MVP and hit 28, 26, 29 & 36 in consecutive games after sitting out the first game. Then he and Kevin Love were asked to be on the Summer Select team that year to practice with the Olympians. http://nationalbasketblogassociation.wordpress.com/2008/07/21/jerryd-bayless-named-vegas-summer-league-mvp/

And he is only 2 years and 6 months older than Selby. Its like when a guy turns 23 on here and he not great then he is a bust. So if Josh averages only 10 or 11 points a game the next two years he will be some propects low side comparison. He is fighting for a roster spot this year and doesnt have a chance of averaging ten points a game this year.
