There is no other player who I see as a possibility going #1 overall in 2014 other than Andrew Wiggins. The Co-MVPs Julius Randle and Jabari Parker looked spectacular as they also will help make the 2014 draft a powerful class. Aaron Gordon along with the Harrisons didn’t play their best but you can’t judge their potential off of one game that wasn’t meant to played seriously. The two players who surprised me were Tyler Ennis and Joel Embiid. With MCW leaving for the NBA I can see Ennis making an immediate impact for the Orangemen playing along with CJ Fair, Jerami Grant, Dajuan Coleman and Rakeem Christmas who will build a powerful starting 5 next year. Joel Embiid is another raw, athletic talented big man coming from Africa. This dude is full of potential with how long and athletic this guy is and he as well will make an immediate impact for the Jayhawks with Jeff Withey and Kevin Young graduating. Him and Perry Ellis will be a powerful frontcourt next year. Embiid has some Willie Cauley-Stein similarities how they are raw but super athletic, long and full of potential. I’m very excited to next College hoops season to see all these talented freshmen make an impact.

Why can’t you see anyone else going #1 in the draft? I love Wiggin’s athleticism but I want to see his skill set. I hope some of you understand what I am getting at. He is an unworldly athlete but I want to see how his skill set translates. I look forward to the USA vs. World game next week so that I can see him in a more competitive environment. As of now, I am slowing down because I have learned that just because the experts say something is true does not make it true.

I see his potential though…he has athleticism that no one in this class has. I just want someone who has seen him a lot in competitive environments tell me about his skill set.

Silly pessimest, you can’t possibly believe that Wiggins isn’t going to be one of the top 5 players in the league the second he steps on the floor on this website. Sure, Jabari Parker is arguably the most decorated high school player of all time, and Julius Randle is an athletic specimen with a mix of skill that we haven’t seen come into the NBA in awhile. But this is nbadraft.net. To this website, the folk lore of Wiggins is impossible to quantify. Most of these people have never even seen him play beyond all star games and a few highlights, but it doesn’t matter.

I honestly think he is going to be GREAT. That I know. He is athletically impressive, and he has the skill to go with it. But the facts are, without even seeing any of these kids play in college, I don’t get how we have guaranteed top 3s and guaranteed number one picks, especially when within the last 3 years both Harrison Barnes and Shabazz failed to live up to such hype so spectacularly.

It is a great recruiting class, and I do truly believe in Andrew Wiggins. But my god, it’d be nice if we could see him play just a few college games before we anoint him the greatest thing ever. And coming to that realization via an all star game is even worse.

I can’t take nothing from it much. Wiggins still looked like the best prospect in the nation. I liked joel embiid’s rim protection and randle still over dribbles. Jabari scored a ton on leak outs and botched plays. I like the move Wiggins but on Jabari from the wing. That was NBA-like. I liked Kasey Hill, Williams Goss, Tyler Ennis and James Young. Matt Jones shot it well too.

I think what I have learned (and this was illustrated during the game) is that these rankings mean very little. In some years the best player is so obvious. I remember watching Kobe in high school and I said to myself “dude is ridiculous”… it’s just obvious. KG in high school was insane.

But other years it wasn’t so clear cut. When i watched the OJ Mayo, Eric Gordon, Rose class play I was confused because all I ever heard about (mostly at least) was about Mayo. But he wasn’t better than those other guys.

And this year is no different. I don’t think there is a huge difference (thus far at least) between Julius Randle and Wiggins and Parker…

I think Wiggins has his strong points, Randle has his and Parker has his…

Of the 3 Wiggins is the most athletic. Randle of the 3 has the best knack for scoring and Parker is probably more well rounded than the other 3…

But athleticism is a drug and Wiggins has so much of it I see why folks are in love with him. I just can’t wait for the Nike Hoop Summit and then next basketball season.

The Nike Hoop Summit will tell us more than the McDonald’s and Jordan Brand games have. That is what I want to see.

    I can’t wait.

Last point is who ends up the better pro will be determined by how hard these guys work on their weaknesses.

Wiggins has to work on his jump shot and ball handling.

Parker appears to need to work on his body.

Randle needs to learn to play to his strengths but I really like Randle’s talent, skill, and tenacity.

He is going to be such a good college player at Duke. I hope he stays at least 2 years. The 1st year at Duke is really just to learn the Duke system, the 2nd year, K will let him go off.

The Hoop Summit will tell you a lot more due to the defense and real game situations. Wiggins is good no doubt but he is not a lock as a number one IMO. He is easily the most athletic but IMO he won’t have e best impact right away in college. I say Randle due to there being no other PF like him in college and Parker due to his all around better skills. Wiggins has the most potential due to athletic ability though and will still have a impact because he is still skilled. Also don’t sleep on Andrew Harrison being a top pick candidate. I’m not sold on Gordon, he reminds me a lot of JMM in that he isn’t really skilled down low and is clearly not a SF. He has a higher motor and is more athletic though but his skill set isn’t that great
