valentineSo ever since the announcement of Rubio finally arriving next NBA season, it seems as though everyone is convinced that Jonny Flynn is on his way out of Minnesota. But didn’t they draft both player to actually play together and be the backcourt tandem? Flynn’s rookie numbers (14PPG 4APG) are solid for a 20 year old PG, injuries and having a bone head coach has caused hindered his development, but if you look closely on his rookie year, he was possibly the 4th best player in his class right behind (Evans, Curry, Jennings).
I think they will actually hold on to Flynn and let Rubio and Flynn play together for atleast a season which was they intended to do in first place when they drafted both. I think Rubio will run the point, while Flynn plays the SG on offense and Rubio handles the defensive duties guarding the opposing SGs.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantFans will be surprised by how quickly Rubio adapts to the nba game..His style of play is better suited for the american game than the international game..He might have a Jason Kidd affect on the game…
Both Rubio & Flynn are poor outside shooters and teams will take avantage of that..Flynn had a good rookie season but flopped last season after returning from an injury..I think Ridnour has more trade value than Flynn ,he’s shown that he can be a dependable starter…

r377Participanti think you may be right. flynn deserves more of a chance – i don’t think he is that bad and i think rubio is about 6"5 so he could guard the SG like you suggested.
We know crazy kahn will definitely try this…

lbj_6Well actually if Kyrie Irving gets selected second by the T’Wolves, they will maybe trade Irving or Flynn, or either Rubio, for something really interresting. The possibility of this trade could change things at Minnesota.

Meditated StatesParticipantHe will be a decent passer, but I do not see him scoring much. NBA game should open his game up more though, but I have never been impressed much by the kid. Good to finally get to see what he can do against the best players everynight though.

PlatypusParticipantflynn needs to be traded for veteran leadership, he needs to go to detroit in a deal for rip

NJHooper95ParticipantFlynn can be a solid player in this league, very strong, and explosive, He just needs an opportunity. Rubio, well the jury is still out. The way its looks and from people who played with and against him, many seem to think he is vastly overrated. I was impressed with Rubio as a 17year old, but now at 20 he seems to be the same player.

Memphis MadnessParticipantFlynn would be a nice change of pace point guard off the bench with his speed and attacking ability. He could be a good backup and there is nothing wrong with that. Not sure he has that much trade value either.

boxn1ParticipantThe triangle, or the modified version that Minny runs isn’t pg friendly. So Flynn is still a ? to me because he is a square peg in a round hole. I want to see if Rubio has the goods. I’m not a believer, but if he can ball then I will give him his due.

JNixonParticipantJonny Flynn is best as a 6th man off the bench who can score but also play some minutes at PG. His role should be like Bobby Jackson’s was with the Kings ideally IMO.
I also agree with 8thdeadlysin that Rubio couldn’t guard SG’s. He’s not strong enough or enough of an athletic presence to keep up with NBA SG’s. He’s not ever going to be a great defender, not even against PG’s who he will probably have physical tools advantages over on alot of nights, so against guys with just as much physical ability if not more I see him struggling.
The Wolves need a starter caliber SG really. One who can shoot and defend, but with SG size. Wesley Johnson, Martell Webster, Lazar Hayward; those guys are true SF’s.
