Jonas Valanciunis is legit!

Third game in a row that he has played good (after deafting what is considered the one of the best teams USA...they did lose to crotia but he played amzing against koria) ....

today he put up

25 points (11/11 fg% and 3/3 ft%)

17 rebounds

2 blocks

Hear is an interview of him after loseing to croatia (seems like he genuanly cares about winning which is good to see from a young player)

http://latvia2011.fiba.com//pages/eng/fe/11/fu19m/p/eid/5194/gid/3/grid/... (he doesnt seem that skinny/weak for a guy who was born in 1992, im sure chandler/noah looked pretty much like him at that age)

with the lookout and his recent performance i think his draft stock would have risen if these evens ocured befrore the draft....might be bold statement but i think he would have good number 2 to mini (had they known about the lockout/his performance) .... He would have been a much better fit for the T-wolves then williams and is younger + if not i am sure the cavs would have picked him 4th?

what are your thoughts on this guy?

He seems solid thus far

Hey, I never remember Darko's stats from these things, not to mention that they are both in quite different scenarios and have different expectations. Nonetheless, his play against the US and Croatia was impressive, as of course was this game. However, you should also mention that he did this against South Korea, a team that just had Sim Bhullar put up 24 and 14, in a slightly less impressive fashion than Jonas, but still big numbers. Not to mention, South Korea's "Center's" were both listed as being 6'7, and they had a 6'8 PF. Yeah, that was it as far as size. I am happy Jonas has been doing well, it is of course a good sign, but this is U-19 competition and you have to temper expectations. Though, it is still much better than him not playing well against said competition.

He's been impressive, but I

He's been impressive, but I would take today's game with a grain of salt. South Korea is probably the worst team in the tourney, and no one omn their roster is over 6'8".

Not taking anything away from JV though. I think he will be a very good NBA player, and the Cavs should have taken him at #4, even though he won't play in the NBA this year, but that might be moot because there's a chance the lockout last the whole year, and it wasn't like the Cavs were competing for a playoff spot.

i came to the conclusion that

i came to the conclusion that Jonas Valanciunis comparable to Robert Parish as NBA player...

similar build to the cheif, long 7 footer, lanky, decent athleth for his size with good movement, in terms of skills set i think he play like a big should, will be very efficient player who use solid moves in the post, that has respectable shot within 10-12 feet and made no mistakes from the charity stripes, will be an inside defensive presence and rebounding force.

whoa, slow down there, I know

whoa, slow down there, I know what you mean, saying that their games are similar, but once again, didn't Darko teach us anything! We were calling him a surefire hall of famer. I can show you a clip from game 3 of the 2004 NBA finals, Darko's first season, where he didn't get much playing time. Well even then the commentators were praising him. And of all people DOC RIVERS said he was going to be special. I think the expectation were WAY too high. All Im saying is that try not to compare him to hall of famers.

Darko before he was drafted,

Darko before he was drafted, didn't play in euroleague and type level Valanciunis play, he got drafted only base on physical gifts(just like Kwame Brown) and he never showed he has the will, motor or determination to become somthing significant.

Now Valanciunas is 7'0 and

Now Valanciunas is 7'0 and weights 245. For example Noah weighs 232, Chandler 235...

15 points 9 rebounds 4 blocks 83%FG (1/1 3pts) in 14 minutes today. Valanciunas' stats after 3 games:
19.7 pts / 13 rebs / 3.7 blks in 23 mins shooting 68% and 80% from the FT line

In Latvia Jonas showed that he has good mid-range jumper.

Sim Bhullar is going to put

Sim Bhullar is going to put up 20 and 10 bcause like you said the South Korean C's were the same size as SF's. Bhullar shot 47%, Vallanciunas didnt even miss. Plus he only played 19 minutes...25 points and 17 rebounds in 19 minutes.

Darko's mental aspect is what

Darko's mental aspect is what hurts him not his skills. If you put Bare mind in Darko's body, you would have a Superstar.

@aamir543

Doc Rivers says that everyone is going to be special. He typically publicly praises young players. That is no significant predictor of a player's success.
